Held

Matt walked over and picked his son up, being mindful of the oxygen and IV. He sat down in the big, blue, hospital chair that was close by. Theo's long bangs tickled his father's neck. Matt chuckled.

"Maybe you do need a haircut." Theo shook his head.

"Nu-u-uh." He pouted. His father gently squeezed his son's cheeks.

"Hey, quite poutin'." Lisa smiled. Theo shoved his dad's hand away and buried his head in his father's chest.

"Hey, bud, what's wrong?" Matt asked.

"D-dd-on w...w-want 'air cut." The boy was sobbing, soaking his father's shirt was tears and snot. Matt rocked Theo.

"Shh, bud," he as he wiped tears from Theo's face, "we're just teasing."

After several minutes of rocking and shushing Theo, his tears finally stopped. Theo looked up at his mother and stretched his arms out to her.

"M..ma," he said. His parents switched places so now, Lisa was in the chair holding her son. She wrapped her arms his skinny frame as he snuggled into her. With one hand, Lisa gently scratched his back while running her fingers through his hair with the other. Theo fiddled with his mother's necklace. He remembered getting it for her for Mother's Day.

Flashback

"Happy Mother's Day, mama!" Theo yelled. He showed his mom flowers and a pretty little box. Lisa smiled and took the gifts. She put the flowers in a vase. She opened the little box and gasped happily. She pulled out the Red and blue butterfly necklace.

"Honey," she said, "it's beautiful." She put the necklace on and hugged her son.

Flashback over

Theo's eyes filled with more tears at the memory.

"Why are you crying?" Lisa asked. Theo pointed to the necklace.

"Mother Day." He sobbed. Lisa hugged her son closer.

"You remember that, huh?" Lisa asked calmly.

"Uh huh," Theo cried. "T-that was 'en I wasn't s-stupid."
