"Did you just?" I questioned his laugh. "Laugh?"
"It appears I did," Arin said, and I could almost feel his smile again. "You yelled pretty loud and got the attention of some people." I immediately blushed as he said this. "Just reminded me of something."
I let it go and Arin and I began to look at the quests on the board. Many papers were hanging there. Every quest ranged from escorts to dragon slaying.
"Here." Arin handed me a piece of paper.
Slay 15 Balloon Slimes. Reward: 50 Marks Per. It was a fairly simple quest and very straightforward. There was a quick drawing of what the creatures looked like, and a long description saying that the creatures had been ruining some fields outside Crosta that we're needed because of Harvest Season.
"You want me to take on this quest?" I asked. "Wouldn't this be too easy?" I wondered why he wanted me to take on such an objective when I already knew how to fight.
"It's not as easy as it looks. The slimes can bite you, spew an acid that burns you, and they're quite agile and difficult to hit." Arin responded as I looked at the quest again. I shrugged and accepted the quest.
"So shall we go?" I asked him.
"You need a small amount of combat training before I let you leave. I'm aware you know how to fight, but I want to make sure you're not overwhelmed." Arin took out his card from a satchel attached to his belt and walked towards the steps back to the first floor. I folded up the piece of paper and put it in my pants pocket before following him.
We arrived at the pool. I felt the same kind of energy that the council radiated except that it was to a much lesser degree. The pool was a glowing white color and had steam rising from it.
"Give me your hand." He said and I obliged. "You have to bleed onto this empty card." He held out an empty card in front of him. "I can cut your hand, or you can." He pulled a knife from his belt. Does this guy have everything? I thought wondering about how he has so much stuff with him.
"I can do it." I said. I'm not afraid of blood and have bled before. I took the knife and card from him. I cautiously inspected the knife before I made the cut.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
"You only need three drops." Arin noted. "You don't have to cut so deep." I felt his worry as he spoke. I shook it off quickly and made the cut horizontally on my hand. Three drops onto the card as I lay it in the pool. The blood glows a cyan color before completely disappearing. The card started to glow a bright cyan as well.
"Here," Arin grabbed my hand quickly and put his over it. "Deep within my soul is a lingering flame. Ignite my spirit and cauterize this wound." I didn't understand what he was saying until I looked at his eyes. They glowed a bright orange for just a moment and my hand burned strongly.
"Ow!" I shouted pulling my hand away. "What the hell?!" I stammered. I motioned to punch him but stopped because of his armor. "That fucking hurt!" I shouted.
"Look at your hand. Lady Anna." Arin replied unwavering. I looked down at my hand and the cut had stopped bleeding and completely faded to only a slight scab.
"You healed me?" I asked. He nodded his head. "You used magic? Are you a healer?" I pondered, thinking about the quests we would go on.
"I'm a Paragon. A warrior of fire." Arin replied.
"Then how did you heal me?" I asked curiously.
"Paragons have three different types of flames. Defensive flames of blue, offensive flames of Red, and Healing flames of Green." Arin spoke proudly of his class.
"So would I be able to heal as well?" I asked.
"Check your card, you already have a spell learned." Arin pointed to the now completed card that was floating inside the pool. I picked it up eagerly to read everything about it.
Name: Annabella Grace Cavar
Rank: 1
Age: 18
Class: Tempest
Race: Human
Magic: E
Combat: S
Evasion: B
A few more statistics were laid out on the card. The card had an image of my face as well. It looked very similar to Zach's card. I lifted it up touched the word that said "spells". The cards writing completely changed. It listed only one word now. The word said Frostbolt.
"Woah!" I said softly as the card changed. "Is that the spell I know?" I questioned curiously. Arin nodded. I touched the spell and more details about it came up. I just had to try it.
"Where can I try it?!" I exclaimed excitedly. I immediately backed away from the pool and put my card in my pocket. I started to walk away and Arin followed.
"You can't lose that card." Arin said, and I nodded, making sure to keep an eye on it.
"No I mean," Arin began again, almost as if he sensed that I didn't know what he had meant. "You physically can't lose that card. If you get too far away from it, it appears in your pocket. It's bound to your soul." I did a double take looking at Arin and took out the card again.
"That's awesome!" I stated, losing the worry about losing the card now.
Today has been very eventful. Despite not being comfortable in this new world yet, I understood my purpose and was excited to start questing with my party. I was looking forward to training with Arin and I. Now that the bonding has occurred I felt much more motivated to get stronger.
