(Slime’s POV)
I say goodbye to my house, taking the form of an owl of black feathers and yellow eyes, I fly through the night, heading towards northeast. When I get halfway to the mountain range, I turn totally east and continue flying.
I see many roads and villages on the distance, but no towns. However, after flying for hours, to the point that the sun is starting to come up, I notice something on the horizon. After all, the eyes that I’m using right now is a mix of hawk and owl eyes, making my eyesight extremely superior than that of the humans.
I massive city, with extremely tall walls. Changing my direction to south, I go check the city. I fly over a forest of five meters tall trees, after coming out from flying over a vast plain. As I get close, I see more details of the city.
It has three walls, one outer wall, that is fifty meters, and two inner walls of the same size, splitting the city in three parts. From up here I can see that the city has three entrances, one in the north, west and south.
On the innermost section, on the center of the city, there is a fortress surrounded by mansions, clearly the rich district, and judging by the large number of soldiers in armors, this is probably the where the elite class lives. Armors and swords… I noticed this on the village near my old home, but the technology level of this world is close to the middle ages.
The second layer of the town, the middle between the innermost and middle walls, is more of a commercial place, with houses for the middle class for what I can see. The outermost section of the city… there is a difference from the area with gates and the area without one.
Near the gates, and between them, you can see small merchants making business and common people living their humble lives. However, on the area without the gate, the city is dirty and clearly the slums of the place, away from the public eye.
I go down on the slums, choosing to land there. I plan in killing a human here, and digesting it so that I can transform into a human. I don’t have a drop of remorse in killing someone, I was an assassin for hire after all. And the reason for the slums… nobody will notice if a drunk bastard disappears beside the bar owner who will lose a source of income.
And as I though, I can see many people wasted on the alleys. I soon find a guy passed out alone in an alley, so I land and transform into a snake. Going down, I coil around his neck and snap it before he could resist.
Turning into a slime, taking advantage of the darkness of the alley, the low light of dawn, I quietly digest the human after storing his clothes in my stomach. In a few minutes, his body succumbs to my stomach acid, and I finally acquire my human form.
You have acquired the Felora Common Language!
But first, before transforming, some theft. Turning into a human will have to wait a bit. Turning again into a bird, this time a small one, with black feathers, I fly around to the commercial district, approaching one of the clothes shop, now that I can read with the new acquired language.
Turning into an insect, I get into the still closed shop, I steal some clothes of the size I want, and get out of the shop, flying away again as a bird. After some time searching on the slums, I find an isolated water well, with a water bucket near it.
Landing there, I turn into a human, the exact same of the guy that I just killed, and also naked. I look down to my new body. Skinny, to an unhealthy point, with a dark skin, being a bit short. Alright, let’s try it. My mimicry ability also allows me to change the shape that I’m mimicking, like size, musculature, color, etc.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
I can’t go beyond the limitations of the race, like growing an extra arm, but I can change my appearance at will, as long as I know what composes what I want to change. My skin immediately turns white, and extremely pale. My body also grows, from 1,50 to 1,60, my former height.
My body also inflates, like a balloon, turning muscular and lean. I dress up on the clothes and shoes that I stole a few moments ago, dressing in black pants, black shirt with short sleeves and black heavy boots of my size. I also have different sizes of clothes, just in case. Even woman clothes.
I take a bucket of water, looking at my reflection on it definitely, a face that I don’t know, with short red, curled hair. Immediately, it starts to grow, turning flowing and soft, as well black, growing just between my shoulders.
My face also changes, gaining Asiatic features as well Europeans, turning slightly handsome, the face that I had previously on my life in earth. Great. Now, it’s time to get some money, starting to walk to the commercial area.
For money, I walk around, pickpocketing people. It’s quite easy, it’s one of the basics of being an assassin in case of the need of immediate money, and in the case, it’s needed for a job. As I walk, pickpocketing people, I check my changed status table.
Status Name:None(change)Level:5Race:Human Title:Strongest Slime(change)Job:None Parameters Strength:225Agility:335 Intelligence:440Endurance:570
Alright… for name, I can use my original name, Akatsuki Yozora. Akatsuki, meaning Dawn Break, the name I inherited from the Akatsuki orphanage that I was raised in. and then my first name, Yozora, meaning Night Sky, even though it’s normally a female name. so, technically, my name means dawn break in night sky, or something like that, like my little sister used to say.
I also take a look at the titles, since Strongest Slime in a human form would be weird. Checking my titles, I see two that weren’t there before. One of them is Black Bear Killer, and the other Assassin. I choose Black Bear Killer, since Assassin could scare someone.
As I pickpocket people, I listen to people talking about recipes, prices and haggling. Eventually, I pick up a conversation that interests me, I stop to listen.
(Guy 1): “Dude, I really need that ingredient for the potion contest, but there’s that monster on the way…”
(Guy 2): “Than put up a request for the adventurer’s guild.”
(Guy 1): “Nah, if I put it up for a party, it will be too expensive. I don’t have that much money after I had to buy the rest of the ingredients.”
(Guy 2): “Well, you could put up the request for a rogue or an assassin on the guild. Sneaking in will be easy for them, right? The price should be lower…”
(Guy 1): “You’re right! Then for an assassin? They’re better at sneaking and stealing, right? Since rogues are more for traps in dungeons…”
(Guy 2): “Yeah. They are a bit rare though, you should put it for the two jobs.”
I see… assassins are common thing around here, huh? I guess that I can fit around just fine. I ask around where the adventurer’s guild and go there, breaking the fingers of two pickpockets that try to steal from me, and steal from everybody that seems to have some money, including people walking around with armor.
I gather one gold coin, more than five hundred copper coins, and six hundred silver coins. I stop in front of the adventurer’s guild, looking to the people coming out and going in the three stories building. Yeah, they all have equipment. I look down to my normal clothes. I should buy some equipment.
So, I ask around for a place where I can buy equipment and get recommended a blacksmith near the south inner gate. On the way, I haggle a bit for some food and trinkets that are useless to get a hang of the price.
One hundred copper coins is equal to one silver coin, and one hundred silver coins is worth one gold coin. Apparently, gold coins are rarely used by common peddlers, mostly used by big merchants.
Alright, one gold coin can sustain a family of four for one month, if they are commoners. With this, I am now quite with quite the number of silver coins in my stomach. I will have more than enough to buy my equipment.
After an hour walking, and pickpocketing three hundred more silver to my deposit by taking the long way. I love the architecture of this city. The main streets are wide for the carriages, and also where the stores are.
However, the rest of the streets are quite narrow, and the buildings are squeezed together, made mostly of stone nearing the middle wall, and being made of wood near the outer wall. The buildings are tall as well, around three stories high, with a lot of alleys.
As I admire the fantasy architecture, I reach the smith’s shop. Alright, time to buy some equipment!
