The Birth of Calamity
27. Newfound Strength

27. Newfound Strength

After a long, dark dream of my past, my eyes fluttered open. Dead petals blew at my feet, foreshadowing the chaos that awaited me.

...What? Is this why I was having such a shitty dream? Well, I was sleeping near a damn corpse.

I looked up at the once beautiful garden now stained in demise and negligence. The colorful flowers that distinctively presented their unique and vibrant beauty were now all black and rotten, withering away.

What is going on?

I got up and walked around. The artificial light also began flickering dimly.

Why is everything... dead?

I then stopped before the corpse of Dr. Stein's sister. Like the flowers and light, her body was slowly rotting away like it was supposed to before Dr. Stein's intervention.

This room... no longer had any beauty in it.

"What are you doing, Dr. Stein?" I muttered, gritting my teeth at the disappointing sight. He promised to not abandon those truly benevolent, and most importantly... his sister. And yet, this was what I found the moment I woke up.

Wait... where is he?

I looked around, but couldn't find him. I decided to run up back to the surface.

"What the hell?!" I uttered, taking in the chaotic scenery. The glasses were shattered, and the entire hospital was messy. Other than the structure, there were several doctors fighting one another.

"Rwoagh!" A man jumped at me from behind with a knife.

"Tch!" I responded with a kick against his temple, sending the man crashing through several buildings.

"Eh... what?" I comically blinked in confusion. Then I looked at my hands, trying to assess my newfound power.

Is this the power of god-level impurity?

I clenched my fists and grinned mischievously. But quickly shook my head, dismissing my malicious thoughts.

"No, no. Finding Dr. Stein comes first."

It must have been due to my god-level purity having to take action against my stimulated impurity, but I was more emotional and considerate than usual.

After exiting the hospital, I realized it wasn't the only building in chaos.

Is the entire area‐ no, the entire Faction in chaos?

People were mindlessly attacking and killing one another, causing mayhem. And amidst everything, the surface was enveloped in a black miasma.

Did he take action while I was knocked out or did I sleep for days? Considering I told him that I won't involve myself in this matter, it must be the former.

That aside, I could feel my surroundings more clearly. My senses and physical abilities were heightened. With a single leap, I managed to jump on one of the tall hospitals. If I remained on the surface, I'd get attacked by those mindless beings.

"Now then... where are you, Dr. Stein?" Suddenly, I felt a chill run down my spine. Was my body trying to remind me about something I had forgotten about? Well, if I forgot then it probably wasn't important.

I jumped off the building.

I should adapt to my new power while searching for him. It's more efficient this way. Fortunately, there were a lot of dummies to test my strength on.

I looked at my surroundings. Several people were blocking my path from every corner.

"Grrrr!" They growled. "GRRRAAAHHH!" Then charged at me with their fists and any weapon they could find.

They're oddly slow... no, am I just fast?

I dodged one of their attacks and dug my fist into his abdomen. Literally. Just like that, I pierced his stomach with my hand.

How fragile.

But now... my damn hand was stuck! The rest of them were still coming at me from behind.

Shit! I need to stop underestimating my strength.

I penetrated his chest using my other hand and tightened my grip inside. I began tearing his torso apart.

"Haaah!" I screamed, putting all of my strength into the violent activity.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

A second before the others arrived, I successfully ripped the person apart. I then swiftly turned around, unsheathed my sword, and threw a horizontal slash. The strength of the slash caused the wind to strike sharply at all of them, cutting all of them into two.

"Eh... aren't I a bit too overpowered now?" I scratched my cheek sheepishly, finding all of this hard to believe. "Ah, right. Dr. Stein." I quickly ran around aimlessly.

Amazing. I'm so fast, but...

I kept crashing into buildings because I couldn't handle my speed. Thankfully, my durability improved too.

"Good grief. This will take a while to get used to." I brushed some rubble and dust off my hair.

"Grrrahhh!" Someone tried attacking me from behind while I was busy brushing my hair.

"Fuck..." I kicked his jaw from below, sending him flying through the roof and to who-knows-where. "Off!"

Compared to the first time I saw these infected beings, they maintained their normal physical appearance, so it was easier to distinguish their gender. However, their insanity remained.

"Is this what you really wanted?" I looked at the chaotic sight. No matter how far I went, people were always fighting and killing each other. The essence of blood joined the miasma in dressing the Faction in a grotesque color and stench.

"No..." I closed my eyes, removing the gruesome sight before opening them again. "This is definitely what you want, but..." I intervened in their fights, cutting down all of them ruthlessly, staining myself in their disgusting blood. "Is this what your sister would've wanted you to spend your life on?"

Damn it. This god-level purity is annoying. What am I thinking?

"Hm?" I glanced to my right. There was a single woman who effortlessly killed every man in her sight with a knife. Despite the physical difference between male and female, she dominated them ruthlessly.

Does she perhaps have high-level impurity?

After killing all of them, she looked my way.

"Ah, our eyes met." Even so, I locked my gaze on hers.

"Grrraaahhh!"

But, bitch, you know what?

I smirked and taunted her with a hand gesture, inviting her over.

I have a god-level impurity.

While she rushed over to me maliciously, I took the liberty to sheathe my sword.

I should practice close combat too, but...

I easily dodged her simple and direct thrust.

These fools are all mindless beings, so they're not really worth practicing on. You can't even call it live combat.

I threw a punch to her face, but she quickly turned the direction of her blade to my neck. I instinctively jumped away, not allowing our attacks to connect. I consciously laid my fingers on my neck, looking for any possible cut. A sweat ran down my cheek.

Well, the good thing is that they have no conscience. They won't hesitate to kill.

"Phew. That was a close call, wouldn't you say, miss?"

"Grrr...?" Tears started streaming down her eyes.

What? So her purity is still fighting? I see.

"Don't worry, miss..." I lunged at her and dodged her straightforward attack. I dug my fist into her stomach, but unlike with the middle-level impure beings, my punch couldn't penetrate her skin. "I'll put you out of your misery."

I knocked her wrist with my elbow, disarming her before initiating my cold throttle. I slammed her against the wall of a nearby building, slowly choking the life out of her with one hand. Without her weapon, she resorted to scratching my arms and chest. But I didn't let go. I ignored the blood her nails drew from my skin.

"Grr..." Saliva began dripping from her mouth as her vision became hazy. Her struggle deteriorated with each passing second. Her saliva and tears fell onto my hand.

After adapting to the toughness of her flesh, I applied the proper amount of force to completely crush her neck. The blood came gushing out onto my face, and her head dropped to the ground, her tears still rushing down her face.

I looked at the bloody mess on my palm.

Maybe hand combat is a bit too hard and risky against high-level impure beings.

I then cleaned most of the blood on my palm by wiping it against the wall before continuing my search for Dr. Stein.

"U-whaaaa?" Suddenly the ground started shaking. Several areas exploded, sending black smoke to the sky. I jumped for higher ground to get an eagle eye on the unfolding situation. "Those are... the wormholes?" It turned out that the explosions were coming from all of the wormholes.

"Oh? A bird?" A man called out behind, swinging a metal bat at me.

"Fuck!" I instinctively jumped to the side. My body refused to block the attack. "Ah, shit." I was falling, making me vulnerable to attacks. But instead of taking advantage, he jumped down with me. We both landed cautiously. "Who the fuck are you?"

"Benin, from the Rebel Faction," he answered with an irritating and arrogant smile.

Just as Dr. Stein predicted. Those fools from the Rebel Faction came, but why isn't he infected?

"Hah! Your confusion is written all over your face. Are you wondering why I'm not psycho like the residents? Well, you better get used to it, because..." He leaped to me, striking from above. "Everyone from the Rebel Faction is already psycho~!"

I jumped back to evade his horizontal attack. After seeing the destruction that his attack dealt to the ground, I was relieved that I never decided to take it head-on. Then I immediately lunged at the opening, but it was one that he intentionally created.

"Hmph, rookie." He grinned, dodging my attack. "Home..." He slapped his metal bat against my chest, swatting me away. "RUNNNNN!"

"Ugh..." I thrust my sword into the ground, killing the unwanted momentum. "Suddenly dealing with an intellectual being is a bit..." I clenched my chest, recovering from the attack.

"Don't escape, eaaagggllleee~" It took him mere seconds to clear the distance between us. "Found you, birdy~" He threw another attack, not giving me a chance to rest.

I'll just leave the defense to my curse, now that I know that it's legit!

I recklessly rushed into his attack with one of my own. He threw a vertical strike at my head, and I aimed to pierce his heart. He was betting on his overwhelming strength, trying to knock me unconscious with a hit to my head before my blade could reach him, BUT!

If I fell unconscious, that would result in my inevitable death, THUS!

I tanked the attack. My head and nose bled, but I didn't lose consciousness, and so my blade connected. My blade passed through his heart.

"You... motherfucker... Garrgh!" He coughed out blood, cursing me as his last words before dropping to the ground, drawing his last breath.

"Hah... hah... hah..."

Maybe it was arrogant of me to get so cocky after getting a little bit of power. In this nation filled with abilities and extraordinary talent, an increase in physical strength meant nothing.

I spat blood on the dead man's face and went on my way. With the rebels joining the chaos, things became more hectic. Amidst the numerous malevolent beings, there were a few who weren't affected by the miasma of Hell, but now they had to survive against those who drowned in their impurity from both the rebels and residents.

I don't particularly care about said benevolent people, but I'm curious about Dr. Stein's course of action on the matter.

"Oh, who is this strange-looking fella?" Someone commented.

These damn flies just keep on coming.
