Leila was puzzled at the sudden opening of the door. She had thought she would ordered the maid to return the food just as she had brought it, because Henry would not open the door for her. She was used to being ignored by him when it came to his feeding, but had not given it a thought to find another job elsewhere, maybe because she was attracted to him, or perhaps because of his childish behaviors- she found his behavior rather childish.
"Here, check this" he showed her his phone, thrusting it in her hand.
Leila collected the phone from him and looked through it, she smiled, not knowing what else she could have done. He most of the time had mood swings and she hated to fall into trouble, especially with him.
"I have to get going right now, I have been hoping to get a contract like this. It means more popularity" Henry collected his phone back from her.
"How about the food?" Leila knew fully well that he was going to reject it, but she might as well try her best.
Without giving her any reply, he went back inside and closed the door behind him. She bet he was happy. She smiled. After all these years of working with him she had a lot of experience.
Her phone beeped. She checked the message. Glancing around for the sight of anyone, she replied to the message.
The next moment her phone rang.
"I have warned you not to call me" Leila panicked, fearing someone might overhear her. It has been a long time that she has kept it a secret- her son. Henry had a hate for mothers. Even when Leila tried to ask him, the only reply he gave her was "Every mother is heartless" . She had tried to find a way to make him change this opinion of his but had only managed to make it worse.
"Are you still there, Mom?" Her son's voice called at the other end.
"Yes, but you see….. " he started to say when he hissed.
"I know you are busy, it was a mistake to call you. I wonder how you manage to work effectively without thinking of me. I think of you more than I should, and I think it is time to stop. I should look for other things to do with my time other than spending it to think about you. Mark it anywhere, Mom, it is over. All the affection I have for you are gone" his voice held a pained tone.

"I am working to keep you in school, and you know it! If you are behaving this way how do you want me to concentrate on what I am doing? I have a lot of problems already, you adding to it is going to make it more worst" Lelia whispered.
"I know, I am trying to make you realize how much it hurts not to have anyone to tell my pains" her son said at the other end.
"We cannot always have time for ourselves. You have to outgrow any childish attitude. I will make sure to give you whatever you need" Leila walked quietly to the sitting room.
"I am going to hang up, mom"
"I will make sure to come the next visiting day. Make sure to read well in school, and have a lot of fun. If you need anything let me know" Leila said into the receiver, but he had already hung up on her.
She knew she was just trying to make her son happy. She would never have the time to visit him in school. That is the price he has to pay for getting everything. The thought made her less guilty. At least he would not always have her by his side when he grows up. He had better start learning it early.
"You have a date?" Henry asked, adjusting his boot. She turned to him in fright, wondering if he had overhead her.
"No…" she searched his face for signs of just anything. He betrayed no emotion.
"When we get back from this, you can have the day off" Henry said without raising his head.
Leila could not believe her ear. Was he telling her to take a day off? Maybe she would have the time to visit her son after all.
"I will be very happy if it can be possible" she smiled, to be on the safe side.
"And, what if I change my mind? You are going to be very sad?" A tingle on his face.
"Not that, I mean I will be glad if you allow me take a day off" she looked down, fearing what she might see in his face.
"Well, I will allow you" he raised his head and walked out through the door, toward the car.
Leila quickly went to the bathroom to call her son. The voice she heard at the other end was not that of her son.
"Is that you, Joe?" She asked, a frown in her face.
"This is the school phone, if there is anything you want to tell your son, you can tell us to pass the message across to him" the voice said impatiently when Leila kept asking him who he was.
Lelia had forgotten Joe didn't have a phone of his own. He must have felt hurt when he called earlier.
"Just wanna tell him I am coming to visit him tomorrow" she said at last.
"What is his class?" The voice asked at the other end.
Leila had no clue. She tried to remember the last time she heard him mention it, but could not. She either pretends to listen to him when he talks about school activities, or tells him not to talk about it. And that was for the few times they spent together.
"I am not sure, I am sorry" she said sheepishly.
"Are you his guardian or his Mom?" The voice queried.
"His Mom" she dreaded what she was going to hear next.
"I am sorry I cannot tell him anything until I am sure you are his Mom. I don't think you are anyways, what sort of mother would not know her child's son. If you are really his mom, call again when you are ready to tell me his class" he hung up, but not before giving a long hiss.
Leila sighed in frustration. She will get to see him tomorrow. She might surprise him too. It would be great to see the surprise on his face when he sees her. She could not wait to see him.
She hurriedly went outside, Henry was already in the car, busy with his phone.
