Chapter 7: An Unlikely Alliance

Chapter 7: An Unlikely Alliance

"I'm f*cked" I muttered under my breath, feeling the weight of what I had done.

The two looked at Naino in confusion, then suddenly remembered that he should be heartbroken right now.

"Don't worry, friend," one of them said gently. "Whatever it is you're going through, you can overcome it."

"Get over what?" I asked.

I was taken aback by their kindness. Did they know what I had done? Did they know I had stolen from them?

"You don't need to explain to us. What had been lost will never be back. Just enjoy your life."

I am confused but tried to make sense of the situation. Since I am alive right now, it means that they do not have any plans on killing me. As I tentatively checked my pockets, I realized they had only taken back the box that glows.

Did they just take back the items that belonged to them? Are they telling me that the gold I stole will never come back since I already used it? Therefore, there is no need to give it back. It seems that they are quite forgiving.

Hahahahahaha. It seems that heaven still has some pity for kind people. That's why he let me live.

"Thank you for the kindness two warriors," I said with a small bow. Hehe. It seems that these two warriors are quite chivalrous. Robbing them most of their possessions and still being able to forgive me, how magnanimous. From how kind they were, I can almost see my own image in them, the reflection of my values and principles. It seems we are kindred spirits.

"Don't worry about it" said Lin Feng. Being heartbroken is not the end of the world. There are plenty of fish in the sea, a single woman shouldn't dictate your life and death, Lin Feng thought.

"Oh, right. We forgot to introduce ourselves. I am Lin Feng and this is Zatharios, thank you for saving us after we lost consciousness."

Lin Feng and Zatharios slightly bowed.

"We came to retrieve an item that belonged to us," said Lin Feng with a hint of apology in his voice. "I took it while you were unconscious. I do apologize for taking advantage of your situation, but this box is very important to us, and we had no other choice."

As he spoke, Lin Feng pulled out the box from his clothes and held it out for me to see. It glowed softly in his hand, emanating a strange and otherworldly energy that made my skin prickle.

"I understand," I said, relieved that they weren't here to exact revenge on me for stealing from them. I almost died thinking of your revenge this past week, you can take that box or whatever.

"I'm sorry for taking it without your permission. I thought it was the treasure I was seeking as it looks powerful." I said.

Zatharios with his cold eyes staring at me replied politely. "No harm done. It's just a misunderstanding." then he thought for a moment before saying "What is that treasure you are seeking? Perhaps, we could give something similar to you in exchange for the box."

Lin Feng nodded in agreement. "If it's within our possession, we will give it to you."

"Really?" My eyes lit up. These two are the most powerful people I've met since I started traveling. Maybe they will have the treasure that can grow hair or a powerful healing spell with an equivalent effect.

I hurriedly said "I'm looking for a legendary treasure. Legend said that this treasure is capable of healing the most terrible of diseases, almost dying physical body, and restoring a broken soul."

I looked at Zatharios, hopeful that he would give me something. But something is weird, after I said what I want, the two of them became silent, then stared at me intensely.

"A legendary treasure that can restore broken souls?" confirmed Zatharios.

"Yes, Do you have something like that?" I asked doubtfully. But hope still lingered in my heart. Hope that this is the day I can finally recover my beautiful hair.

Zatharios shook his head, "I'm sorry, but we don't have that kind of treasure."

My heart sank. The hope that I had built up inside of me was instantly shattered. "Oh, I see," I said, trying to hide my disappointment.

"But, we are also looking for a treasure like that in hopes of healing us completely," Zatharios added.

"Eh? Really?" That's damned. Now, two more strong people are looking for that legendary treasure. The f*ck. How am I supposed to have a chance? I thought you two are good people. Turns out that you are just a sheep in wolf's clothing!!

I think I phrased that wrong... but regardless, you two are bad people.

"Yes," Lin Feng answered this time. He looks like he found a light at the end of a dark tunnel. Hope is evident in his eyes.

Damn it! It looks like they are intent on finding the legendary treasure. Let's play along for now to hide my discomfort.

"I see, it must be fate that brought us together then HAHA." I laughed out loud to make my b*llsh*t remarkable.

The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.

"Of course, fate truly works in mysterious ways" Lin Feng laughed too.

"Indeed, fate is a pretty strange thing. To allow people like us to meet, even a Divine Entity cannot predict something like this." Zatharios remarked.

Divine Entity? Is it something like a fortune teller? Of course, they cannot see something like fate, they are all frauds.

"Hoho! Divine Entities eh? It must be some charismatic person." I said.

As I tried to maintain my composure and play along, I couldn't help but feel a mixture of skepticism and curiosity toward the idea of a predestined fate. The notion of fate and destiny seemed far-fetched to me, considering my own past experiences and the unpredictable nature of my traveling life.

The two warriors looked at me at the same time. Lin Feng then said as though he were teaching me something. "Divine Entities are more than just charismatic, they are powerful figures."

"Really?" As I said that, I looked at Zatharios.

"Very powerful," he said. No other explanation was given to me after that but his short and concise way of answering depicts how Divine Entities should be viewed without other pretenses. Of course, I was amazed by how powerful they made them out to be.

I didn't think that a bunch of frauds like a fortune teller would be so powerful in the eyes of these two warriors. It seems that they are not ordinary frauds.

Hearing that these Divine Entities are so powerful, I wanted to ask Lin Feng for more information or story about them but I decided to keep my doubts to myself, not wanting to annoy these two powerful warriors.

Instead, I changed the subject to something we were talking about earlier.

"So, what's your plan now?" I asked.

"Well, we don't have a specific plan for now. We just want to move to a nearby city to gather information about any divine medicines." Lin Feng said.

"Hmm... Okay. I guess, I'll just continue searching for the treasure" I said to them.

I looked at both of them and said. "Should we bid our goodbyes now?" I want to get away from these two because who knows? maybe they will change their minds later and then try to kill me.

The both of them looked at each other and then nodded at the same time.

"All right, we should say our goodbyes now so as to not waste our time." Lin Feng said.

I nodded and then started walking to my next destination. I was going to wave my hand to indicate goodbye when Lin Feng asked a question.

"Where are you going next then?"

I stopped in my tracks and looked behind my back to see them clearly.

Then, I answered politely."In the Witch Forest".

"So, you're heading to the Witch Forest?" Zatharios asked, breaking his usual silence. His voice carried a hint of intrigue.

I turned towards him, surprised by his sudden interest. "Yes, that's where I'm headed next," I confirmed, curious about his reaction.

"The Witch Forest is known to be a perilous place, filled with dark magic users and ancient enchantments," Zatharios remarked, his eyes gleaming with a mix of caution and excitement. "Legends speak of powerful artifacts and hidden knowledge that lie within its depths."

His words piqued my interest. I had heard tales of the Witch Forest's mysterious aura and the secrets it guarded like the location of the Anti-Hair loss treasure, but to encounter someone who seemed genuinely fascinated by its potential intrigued me further.

"Have you been to the Witch Forest before?" I asked, hoping to learn from his experience.

Zatharios shook his head. "No, but I've heard stories from adventurers and scholars. It's a place shrouded in mystery, and I believe it might hold some answers to the treasure we seek."

Lin Feng, who had been observing our conversation, chimed in. "If the Witch Forest is as intriguing as it sounds, perhaps we should reconsider our plans. Naino, would you mind if we join you on your journey to the Witch Forest?"

"Eh?"

Eh? I don't want to. Who knows what will happen to me if I offend you two? Besides, I'm fine on my own. I may not be as strong as the two of you but I have a lot of experience in traveling. In short, I am an expert. An EXPERT. So I don't want to.

"I apologize but I do not want to." I said, then continued "All these years I've traveled alone and am not comfortable in the company of others. Also, I am quite the expert at traveling so assistance may not be needed."

I stood my ground, my voice firm and resolute. The two warriors exchanged glances, their expressions betraying a mix of surprise and amusement. It was clear they hadn't expected such staunch resistance from me.

I observed the brief exchange of glances between Zatharios and Lin Feng, sensing a momentary hesitation in their decision. Little did I know that they were engaged in a telepathic conversation using Voice Transmission, their words hidden from my ears.

(Voice Transmission)

"Why did you want to come with him? We are fine on our own. He's not strong and will likely hinder us in our goals." said Zatharios as he looked at Naino.

Lin Feng met his stare, a calm determination radiating from his eyes. "Zatharios, think about it," he replied earnestly. "We've lost a lot of our strength and are not familiar with this place. If we went with him, we could hide our traces from our enemies through blending with his mortal aura. Besides, Naino is also seeking a treasure similar to what we are looking for. Maybe he already collected a lot of information on how to find the treasure. We just need to be his strength so that we can quickly find it and get back our original strength." Lin Feng convinced Zatharios.

Zatharios fell silent for a moment then said "All right. It seems that we need to rely on him a little."

(Voice Transmission End)

After a moment of silence, the two warriors looked at me.

Lin Feng crossed his arms, a knowing smile playing on his lips. "Naino, we understand your preference for solitude. But consider this: the Witch Forest is no ordinary place. Its dangers are unlike anything you've encountered before. Having allies by your side can make a world of difference."

Zatharios nodded, his gaze steady and unwavering. "Indeed, Naino. Knowledge and experience are valuable, but the Witch Forest tests even the most skilled adventurers. Trusting others doesn't mean weakness; it means recognizing the power of unity."

I sighed, feeling the weight of their words pressing against me. They made a valid point. The Witch Forest was notorious for its treacherous terrain, unpredictable magic, and sinister creatures. Perhaps it was foolish of me to believe that I could explore it alone. But-

"I appreciate your concern," I said, my tone softened. "But I have managed to survive countless dangers on my own. I trust my instincts and my abilities. I don't need anyone slowing me down or interfering with my goals."

And most importantly, I don't want the two of you to come with me. Why don't you get it??

Lin Feng's eyes glimmered with understanding, his voice gentle. "Naino, we don't intend to hinder you or impede your progress. We are not asking for your complete reliance on us. Consider our alliance as a temporary arrangement, an opportunity to share knowledge and increase our chances of success. After all, strength lies not only in solitude but also in the ability to adapt and evolve."

Damn, it seems that there is no stopping the two of them. Fine then. It's not like you two are murderous people. You won't suddenly kill people, right? Besides, with strong people by my side, I will be safer I guess.

"All right. Let's travel together." I sighed again, wondering if I made the right decision. It doesn't matter anymore. As long as I could find a clue for the legendary treasure.

And so our unlikely alliance was formed. At this time, I still didn't know, that this unlikely alliance will continue for a long long time.
