Chapter 1 | The Adru

Chapter 1 | The Adru

A few days passed since the deity was created. Over the past few days, a light not visible to the naked eye began shining as brightly as a diamond over the forest.

Strangely, it seemed that the light was slightly moving. It always seemed to be directly above the new species.

After a few weeks of development, it began developing thoughts. At first, it looked at the world as something that had nothing to do with him, but gradually he himself noticed him following strange creatures on the ground.

To relieve his boredom he began watching them. The creatures he decided the call Adru. He didn't really know why, but this word kept repeating itself in his head.

The Adru themselves were not thriving, in fact, they were barely surviving. They lived off fruits and vegetables. Not because they couldn't eat meat, but they didn't have the skills to kill, skin or cook the food.

However, getting any food in the forest was incredibly risky. With the lack of population accompanied with it, a bad hunt could even end their entire species existence.

To prevent being hunted, they were always on the move. They only stopped when necessary. This continued on for a few weeks until their luck ran out.

In the middle of a small clearing, five Adru laid on the ground, barely having enough energy to move. During the last few days, they caught the attention of a wolf-pack.

After they killed one of their group members, the wolves found out how they loved this meat.

So the Adru have been on the run for the last 2 days straight, not daring to stop moving.

They actually had 8 members when they fled, but one died from exhaustion and the other two were chased down by the wolves.

It was only until a few hours ago that the wolves let up, probably because of how far from their home they ran.

The Adru were relieved by this but soon collapsed on the ground. They had no energy left. Only two of them ate in the last three days, and those two were kids.

The kids themselves just looked like miniature versions of the Adru. Since their species just evolved quite recently, they haven't developed many traits specific to their race.

As of now, they seemed like a weird blend between a human and an elf, with a little bit of some other species mixed in.

If humans saw the Adru right now, they would probably be called demons and hunted down. The elves may be a little nicer and leave them secluded on their island, but they could still kill them whenever they wanted.

The Adru, still laying on the ground examined their surroundings for food. There was only one tree with fruit growing on it. They seemed like large apples but tasted like peaches. They had a strange orange shine to it, but it was better than nothing.

The problem was the height of the tree. To get the fruit down would require the effort of three Adru. But, only the two kids could move. Even they couldn't move around freely.

The Adru accepted their death very lightly as if it didn't care or even know what death meant. They grew up in a kill or be killed lifestyle, and thought it only natural to happen to them.

The kids, however, were scared of the unknown. They began letting out a rough scream. With their vocal cords not functioning correctly, it sounded like a mix between a boar and a baby kitten.

It may have sounded threatening to people in a peaceful environment. But here it didn't even scare flies.

This strange sound flew its way until it reached the soul floating above it. The soul began watering. It began to cry but didn't know why. It felt the strongest feeling it ever felt before.

With all of his willpower, it wished that food would come to them, that they didn't have to starve to death.

He focused on the fruit hanging on the tree, and with every fiber of its soul, will the fruit to fall.

The stem that connected the fruit to the tree began weakening, but so did the soul. The soul began fading out of existence, but it still didn't stop.

Finally, he managed to destroy the stem, causing the fruit to fall down, landing in front of the eyes of an adult Adru. Without even thinking, it reached his arm out, quickly taking a huge bite out of the fruit.

The soul didn't stop though, he moved on to the next fruit even quicker than the first one. The Adru picked the fruit up and threw it towards one of the others.

Exhausted, the soul began fading out. The radiant glow of light began fading, and it turned into a ball no thicker than a peddle found on the ground.

The soul then turned into an almost solid black, going into a deep slumber.
