"Yeah, World Breaker and Fate were both used in the last fight." Jet scratched his cheek.
Proteus calmed down. "Well, that is a letdown. Those would have been a great help later. You'll have to manage without them."
"Are you going to tell me what these trials contain?" Jet asked while they got in a line.
"The one who takes you here is not allowed to give you information about the trials. So, I'll stay quiet for now. Still, make sure not to tell them what I am. Right, when they ask about the library. You do not tell them you have one." Proteus stopped in thought for a minute. "So for now you don't know me. I'm just a supervisor who took you here. The library in your head doesn't exist." Proteus turned to look at Jet. "The library in your world doesn't exist."
"Was that necessary to repeat three times?" Jet shook his head.
"Yes, they will destroy you if that is known. Only the one who wins the games gets a copy. The one who runs the Alteras Tower would have told you to keep it a secret as well. It was given to you on a whim. Alteras thought the Tower was going to fall. But you saved the Tower in the end. Thus, you were taken to the games. Now, let's get the show on the road." Proteus walked over to the line and entered the one with beings that looked like him. He pointed at the other for Jet to enter.
While Jet stood in line his anger came back. He did not like the fact that he had been pulled into the situation. To spend so much time away from his family yet again.
'Hey, checking to see if our minds are still linked?' Jet heard Proteus in his head.
'Unfortunately.' Jet replied.
'This will be helpful later on. But, for now, we will stay silent.' Proteus disappeared from his mind.
"Hey, do you know what is going on?" Someone tapped Jet's shoulder.
"No idea." Jet turned around to face a small girl or woman. He wasn't too sure.
"Can't believe they stuck us in a line and didn't explain anything." The girl huffed out crossing her arms. "Names Molina."
"Jet."
Molina cocked her head. "That sounds very familiar."
"Do you live on Earth?" Jet asked although he didn't think he was famous.
"Oh please. There are so many Earth's out there. Like seriously, why do people name planets after dirt." Molina laughed.
"I've only been to a couple of planets." Jet had no idea that was a problem.
"Oh, haven't been around much. I was on my, well let's just say I've Jumped to over fifty planets. I've lost count. Like thirty of them had the name Earth. But no, I do not come from any Earth. My people don't even know what technology is. My world is what most call Stone Age." Molina smiled.
"That must have been overwhelming." Jet was surprised for a few seconds. But then remembered the first world he went to was medieval era.
Molina shrugged. "It wasn't too difficult to get used to technology. I wish I knew about toilets in my world. If I ever make it back I'll definitely change some things there."
"Why don't you go back?" Jet asked.
"I don't know where my home is." She looked at him curiously. "Can you find your way back?"
"Yes, I can feel where my home is at all times." About that time Jet realized he could not at that moment. "Except since I was brought here. Do you have any clue what is going on?"
Molina shook her head. "I found an Alteras Tower. They said I had the potential to save the universe. Now I am here. Was it the same for you?"
"Nope, I was dragged here without knowing," Jet said flatly. The Alteras Games meant something else to him. Although he hoped it wouldn't be the same as the last games he entered.
"Wow, they at least told me I was going to be put into the games," Molina said.
"Everyone, please come in and take a seat." Jet looked around to see who was talking. The voice sounded like it had come from everywhere. Looking around everyone else was also looking for the voice. Now what he couldn't figure out was why it bothered to ask them to come into the building. They were automatically moved inside and put in front of a chair. He immediately noticed they would be sitting in the order they had been standing.
"Molina, let's switch seats?" Jet was curious if it had been possible. Molina didn't ask and switched spots with him. When they sat, however, they were both back in their chairs.
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
"So, why did you try to switch seats?" Molina asked.
"Just curious." Jet waved the question off. Now he wondered what was so important to be first in line. Why had Proteus gotten upset about him not being first? He would find out soon enough.
"Declare all of your weapons."
Jet noticed a small table in front of them now. Proteus told him to tell them about his weapons, well weapons. He put down The Meat Clever. The only weapon he had now.
"You may take back the weapons. Some of you aren't equipped with enough. You may get up and pick some weapons from our selection. The one with The Meat Clever has more than enough for the games." The voice announced.
Jet thought, 'What the hell?' Which he was certain Proteus said he could get another weapon. "Molina, you getting a weapon?" He whispered.
"No, I use darts," Molina whispered back.
"Go grab a bow and arrows for me." Molina gave him a look. "I know we might be on opposite sides. But if the games aren't fighting. Then I'd like to have a bow for hunting." Proteus did say it could take years.
Molina got to her feet and walked over to the weapons. Jet could tell immediately she had no clue what she was even looking for. She walked right by the bows and went to a shelve of throwing spears. When she turned to him he gave a slight shake of his head. He nodded her to walk back a ways. Molina was trying not to look suspicious while doing this. But he had no doubt in his mind they were being watched, and they knew what they were doing.
After everyone sat down Jet noticed the ones who sat in the wrong spot instantly went back to their own. Why the order they got in line was important? He had no idea. But if numbers mattered he was lucky number seven. Not that he ever found the number lucky.
"Now starts the first game. Survival." The voice let the word hang for a few seconds. "You'll have to survive for one year. Tazz, the man in the first seat will lead."
'Glad I wasn't first now. I would make a terrible leader.' Jet thought.
"If the leader dies the next one in line takes their place." The man Tazz looked excited about being the leader. However, what was said next made him frown. "The leader can be voted and banished from the town." Jet thought the town part was interesting. "One last thing before we start the survival game. If you die here, your body dies as well. This is a high risk game. So if you wish to leave the games now do so."
Jet didn't even hesitate. "I'd like to withdraw."
"Why are you trying to leave?" Molina asked.
"I was forced to come here, and I could care less about saving a universe." Jet shrugged.
"Please state your full name."
"You first, I've wondered for a while who's talking." Jet tossed back at the voice.
"My name is Alteras."
Jet did not expect an answer. "My name is Jetsford Husk Gardner." It seemed like the entire room froze at his name. He looked around to find everyone wide eyed. "What, have some of you heard of me?"
"Dude, did anyone else feel the power of his name?" That was one of the whispers he heard. Jet wondered what they had meant by the power behind his name.
"You may not leave."
"Seriously, then why bother asking." Jet huffed out angrily. He got a little more irritated when several others were up and left with no problem.
"Who here has a library?"
Jet had wondered when this question would be asked. Most people had confused faces with the question. He chose to ignore Alteras. But, someone did raise their hand. "I got a library."
"What kind of library?"
"My father got me a copy of every book around." Jet stopped listening to his first sentence. That was not what Alteras was looking for. He closed his eyes and went to his world. When there he walked straight to the castle that was the library.
"What are you doing pulling me here right now?" Proteus asked.
"What will happen if I tell them about this library?" Jet asked.
"They will kill you, no one should have this library. At the end of the games you will receive this place." Proteus waved a hand.
"Wasn't asking you." Jet waited for the library to bring him a book. It didn't take long for one to appear. He opened the book to take a look at the punishment for having a library. The book slammed shut suddenly. "Got it, I won't tell them."
"Yeah, it's a pretty gruesome way to disappear forever. Seriously, them making you disappear forever was good enough. Jet this isn't the first time you thought of looking at the rules. Ok, let's head back before they notice." Proteus waved and disappeared.
Jet thought of another book. A shelf with the books given to him by his future self appeared. "Now, did I write about the Alteras Games?" Sure enough one of the books stuck out. He opened and read a few pages. After a few minutes, he frowned. "Crap, no wonder I needed to be first here." He shut the book quickly when he felt a tug back to the other world. When he opened his eyes he could feel a presence watching him.
"Where were you at?" Alteras asked.
Jet figured a total lie would get him caught. "I was in my world." Everyone in the world looked at him in confusion. So he figured that most didn't have an inner world.
"How big?" Alteras asked.
Jet thought about the question and looked inwardly. He figured it should be smaller now. But it had grown to half a mile wide. Sure the library made it look like a spec. "Half a mile round."
"What do you have hidden there? May I see your world?" Alteras asked.
"I don't know how to bring people there," Jet replied far too quickly. Not that he had lied. He wasn't too sure how to bring another person, or whatever Alteras was to his world.
"That's fine, I'll meet you there," Alteras said.
Jet felt a presence trying to enter his world. He tried to stop Alteras to no avail. After a half second, he was forced back into his world. "Oh, crap."
"Well, well, well I see you have the library already." Alteras chuckled.
Jet turned to the person. His jaw dropped when he saw a young woman in front of him. That looked oddly familiar. "You look like that AI I saw."
"My soul has been used to make many of the AI's. But, what will we do about your illegal library?" Alteras walked over and put her hand on the wall. "Forgive me, the library was given of free will." She cocked her head after a few seconds. "Another one of our towers is about to fall. What a shame. Oh, it fell nearly twenty years ago. So odd that you're from a distant past. It's not uncommon for a group to be from other times. But, you come from nearly thirty years before the others." Alteras turned and looked closer at Jet. "What are you?"
"I'm a human." Jet took several steps back. Not that it had mattered. Alteras stayed face to face with him.
"Oh, I see. How fascinating." Alteras grinned widely. "You're a Creator."
