"Ford when did you meet Amanda?" William asked after making them some hot chocolate.
"Technically, this would be the first time we met. But, I have other problems to solve first. So, could you get her to bed. We can talk in the morning." Jet sat on the couch and got ready to enter his world.
"We don't have the guest room set up for anyone right now. Also, does Amanda's mother know she is here?" William crossed his arms.
Jet could see his father had a lot of questions. "She can use my bed."
"And where do you plan to sleep?" William did not look pleased.
Jet was only confused for a second. He had forgotten that his dad didn't know Amanda. "I don't plan to sleep."
"I don't think I can sleep anyways." Amanda added.
"It's two in the morning please try to get some sleep. I need to consider my next move. I'm on the brink of Jumping right now. Best if I don't sleep while I'm like this." Jet lied a bit. He could disperse his built up energy. But, he had to go to the Kingdom of Hope no matter what.
"What are you talking about?" William felt that he was missing half the conversation.
"Dad, please I'll explain in the morning. Amanda try to get some sleep. If your memories are as jumbled as mine you need rest. As for me, I got to get some answers. So let's pick this up in the morning." Jet didn't wait to hear the complaints and went to his inner world. That however lasted about ten seconds when his father woke him.
"We need to talk." William stated bluntly.
"I know, but can it wait a few hours?" Jet wanted to ask a certain person what was going on.
"Amanda, who is she?"
"My girlfriend." Jet simplified his answer.
"Son, you have told me about your girlfriend's. This is not her." William shot back.
Jet was about to ignore his father but stopped at that statement. Going through his memories sure enough he had a current girlfriend. Mia was her name. Looking through the memories he decided it wouldn't have worked out anyways. "We broke up." They had only dated for a week. The amount of girls he dumped over the year was mind boggling to him. So it wouldn't be to difficult or cause problems if he did.
"You won't ever keep a girl the way you dump them, and beside that. Amanda is far different story here. I'm no fool, she is being abused." The questioning look on his face screamed for answers.
Jet felt guilty now. The memories he had never saw so many bruises on Amanda before. Mostly because he had been with Amanda before. So her mother had held back. Even knowing she had told him to never say anything, just him knowing her kept the beating from getting out of hand. "She asked me to not get involved. However, after seeing her I won't let her go back this time."
"That is not an option here. We could get CPS involved. But we can not keep her here." William said.
'We shall see.' Jet thought. "We will not get CPS involved. However, I see where you are coming from. Let's discuss this with her in the morning."
"How do you know this girl?" William asked.
"It was another life. Now, I know you want answers. But I need to get some details first. So, please go to bed." Jet pleaded wanting to drop this subject.
William did not look pleased. "Fine, but you have a lot of explaining to do.
Jet relaxed and waited for his father to leave this time. That did not happen, he sat on another couch and watched. Jet didn't complain going back to his inner world. He took a look around and saw the Meat Cleaver sitting in the grass. "I wonder what happened to World Breaker and Fate?" He cringed when he saw the bones and cores of his old arm. So he didn't dream another life. It didn't take him long to find the soul crystal. He could feel everything present in this place. What he couldn't figure out is where Alex went.
When Jet got the library he thought about where to put the soul crystal. The library complied and a desk moved out of the shelves to sit in front of him. "This library is very handy." A latch on the desk unbuckled. When Jet looked inside there were small slot. He put the crystal in one of them.
"Well, well, well. Judging from your hair the plan worked. This is a great feat." A man looked oddly like himself looked around.
The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.
"What plan?" Jet asked.
"Technically the power Almark used shouldn't have let you stop at this point in time. When a full time reset happens the person the power is used on. The new time line will flash through that persons head. But, it always brings you back to the time you were in at that moment. Even if you ended up another place." The copy of Jet laughed.
"That's not what Almark said. He said I would go back to where Glass affected my time line." Jet remembered what he was told.
"That was a lie. You see it shouldn't have been possible. But, I have found over the years that a power's perspective is linked to a person. I told Almark that's what would happen. You see I changed his perspective on how the spell would work." The Jet copy stopped for a few seconds. "But, there were some dire consequences for what was done. I destroyed millions of souls to pull this off."
"Ok, then why is mom still dead?" Jet asked.
"Because, time will always fix itself to a degree, and her death is a guarantee. Jet, mother is where you got your magic. She was at the start of everything that has happened. But, a story for another time." The copy of Jet stopped him from asking why. "I brought you back to this time for three reasons. First, to save Amanda from her murder. The first time around you didn't know her. She is beaten to death by her mom in about a month from now."
"That don't make sense. You said you don't have any memories of the past." Jet argued.
"Yes, I don't. However, I'm also not the only copy of a soul in this gem. They remember what I have forgotten. So call me Stax." Stax smiled.
"Wait, Amanda is murdered by her mom?" Jet asked.
"Well, it was an accident. That I wanted to prevent. I never did ask, how did mother die? I need to know which timeline your from, or a close approximation." Stax looked Jet up and down. Which Jet explained. "So one of the original timeline. If you remember her murder. That's good less to explain on that subject. As for the second reason I wanted a complete restart. You need to start a school."
Jet was confused. "You want me to start a school?"
"Yes, in the books I had you add to this library have names. We need to get the power shift under control immediately. To many people go bad fast. But, there are a few you'll need to kill right off." Stax noticed Jet's confusion still. "I didn't get all the names and places I wanted. But, the ones I did get need to be dealt with."
"You want me to kill them before they go bad. Not a bad idea." Jet thought about the plan.
"Don't get cocky. They are babies right now and some not even born yet." Stax warned him.
"Oh, then why not the school?" Jet asked.
"We can deal with that in time. I hope the school will be enough. By the way, you need to convince Jefferson to run the school. He is the only one we can truly trust to do the right thing, and protect the kids." Stax stopped for a few seconds. "As for the third reason, you will start the Alteras Games now."
"Wait, you want me to go there for my first jump?" Jet asked.
"No, you will be in the real Alteras Games. Which are more like trials by the way. But the closest word for theirs is games in our language. Though, as I said it's more like trials." Stax grimaced slightly. "Although, I'd still lean on games."
"Alright, we can start when I get things settled down at home." Jet watched as Stax lifted his finger and waved it back and forth.
"Sorry, the games start now." Stax threw a red crystal in Jet's direction.
Jet didn't know what the crystal was and tried to dodge. It moved along with him. When it hit it felt like the bottom of his stomach fell out. It felt oddly familiar, but at the same time it didn't. He opened his eyes to find himself standing in a field of grass. With Stax right next to him. Jet grabbed him by the collar. "Where the hell did you send me?"
Stax smiled and hit Jet on the head sending him flat on the ground. "Sorry, you need some practice to beat me."
Jet looked up at Stax. "So, you can hit me here?"
"Well, we are souls at the moment. So, yes I can hit you here. Of course, I'll be able to hit you back in your world as well. But, you have absolute power there." Stax looked around. "Now, where is the building?"
"Stax, bring me back now. We can do this after I get matters settled with my dad." Jet noticed he wasn't paying attention, or it didn't look like it.
"Can't leave. Not until the games are done." Stax didn't look his way.
"How long will I be stuck here?" Jet asked.
"A year or two. The longest has been five years." Stax found what he was looking for. "Ah ha, there is the registration building. Let's get this show on the road."
Jet didn't move. "Years, you are joking right?"
"Hanging around here isn't going to make this go faster, and we can't leave until you are done." Stax walked away from Jet toward a building in the distance.
Jet was not a happy person. "Ok, let's get this over with then."
"That's the attitude we need. Now, it just occurred to me that I shouldn't use the name Stax here. Could you come up with a new name for me." Stax frowned. "I'm going to be your aid for the games. I can't get to involved. But, my name will get a lot of red flags."
"Was your name well known in this time?" Jet asked.
"That is the problem. It could be famous for another person in the future. Other people from other times can be summoned here. So I need a different name just in case." Stax rubbed his chin.
"How about Proteus?" Jet asked.
"Oh, the Greek god that can take different forms. I like it. From now on I'll be Proteus. It's like rubbing it peoples face that I am different people." Proteus laughed.
"Not the same, the god could change his form. I don't think they changed personalities." Jet shook his head.
"You do realize I am constantly over a million people. Realistically I am one person. Before we go in do not tell them what I am. Things would get ugly quick. After all, I was technically one of the ones sent to destroy this universe." Proteus frowned. "Meeting you changed my mind."
"Oh, do I get to know what I did?" Jet asked.
"We took your soul when we killed you. When merged with us you changed the way we looked at this universe. We decided to try and help in the end." Proteus sighed when he saw the line at the building. "Thought we would be the first this time. What a shame. We need to declare the weapons you have. So call World Breaker, Fate, and the Meat Clever."
Jet reached for them and frowned. "I only can feel The Meat Clever." Which formed in his hand.
Proteus did not look pleased. He walked over and shook Jet's shoulders. "Please tell me you didn't leave them in that timeline."
