Train Adventures (Quest for Excalibur, Part 3)

After taking a plane, Select and Max arrived in London.

“Okay, now we have to find the train station…”

Select looked at the map he had acquired at a tourist office and scrutinized it carefully.

“If we are here, and the station is here… We have to go this way…” murmured Select to himself.

“Which way is it?”

“Supposedly that way.”

Select and Max started wandering the streets in search of the train station.

On one of the streets, Smith saw Select and Max.

“Damn! That annoying archaeologist…”

He took out his phone and made a call.

“Mr. Boss? Yes, I need you to help me with something… I want to get rid of a nuisance…”

“We’re lost!” shouted Max to Select.

“It’s because this map is poorly made!”

“Are you sure you’re not reading it wrong?”

A man approached them, staring at them intently.

“Select, I think he’s coming towards us…”

Select approached the man.

“Any problem?” Select asked.

“Yes, you,” the man replied, and then pulled out a knife, attempting to stab Select.

Select dodged it, surprised.

“I guess you wanted to give me a little English lesson, no?” teased Select.

“Shut up!”

The man attacked again, only to receive a blow to the wrist and a knee to certain sensitive areas.

“That’s how you make some good fried eggs, my friend.”

The man, in pain, fell to the ground.

Quickly, Select and Max ran away.

“Do you know how to fight?” Max asked Select.

“Indeed, I am always prepared,” replied with a smile.

Once they were far enough away, Select and Max went back to search for the station.

“What was that all about?” Max wondered.

“A failed robbery, I think.”

“Yeah… what if it’s Smith?”

Select, after hearing that, started laughing.

“I don’t think Smith has the money to hire henchmen, Max.”

“But maybe Mr. Boss does.”

Select pondered for a moment.

“I think Smith is involved in something more dangerous than I thought… Maybe you should leave, Max.”

“No way! I’m staying with you to the end.”

Select smiled upon hearing that, and then our heroes arrived at the station.

“Very well, the train leaves in half an hour,” said Select while checking the time on his phone.

The people went into the train slowly, while Select and Max were on the lookout in case they saw Smith.

Not paying attention, Max bumped into a young woman of the same age.

“Be careful!” she shouted angrily.

“Londoners have bad temper,” said Max.

Select stayed observing the young woman, puzzled.

“I don’t think she’s from London…”

Once everyone was inside, the train began its journey.

Edward Smith carefully looked through the newspaper.

“The location of the Forest of a Thousand Dreams… is mine!”

Looking up, he saw Select from the corner of his eye.

“What is that filthy rat doing here? He should be dead!” he muttered angrily.

He suddenly stood up and approached Select.

Select saw Smith coming.

“Edward, I see you’re still as ugly as ever.”

“And you’re still insufferable,” Smith responded, sneering.

“The guy who attacked us was your doing, right?”

“And I see he failed,” said an irritated Smith.

Select noticed the book Edward was holding in his hand.

“The Diary of the Last Great Hero!” exclaimed Select, amazed.

“Yes, and it’s going to be the last thing you see in your life.”

Suddenly, to the astonished eyes of Select and Max, all the passengers in that carriage stood up and pointed at both of them.

“Edward, where have you gotten yourself into this time?”

“I’ve made a good deal with someone with a lot of money. Fame for me, power for him,” Smith responded, with a wicked smile.

“Mr. Boss, right?”

“How do you know that?” Smith was surprised.

Behind him, the girl Max had bumped into appeared.

“Give me that book,” the girl jumped in.

“And who are you?” Smith asked. “Is she with you?”

Select and Max shook their heads.

“I said give me the book,” she repeated.

“I don’t think so,” Smith responded.

“It’s not a question,” said the girl, and then she began to transform into a humanoid cat-like creature with sharp claws.

“What the hell!” exclaimed Smith.

“A MONSTER!” shouted Max, scared.

“A furry?” wondered Select, puzzled.

One of the soldiers shot at the creature, only to be grabbed and thrown out of the train.

Taking advantage of the chaos, Select snatched the book from Smith’s hand.

“My book!” he exclaimed.

“Too late,” Select knocked out Smith with a punch and ran out, grabbing Max.

“We need to get out of here!” Select shouted.

A soldier hit Max, who went flying out of the train, hanging from the door.

“Oh shit!” he shouted as the wind hit his face.

Balancing, Max grabbed onto a piece of metal, standing on the side of the train.

But he wasn’t alone out there, as the cat-like creature was coming after him.

“Don’t screw with me!” Max shouted when he saw it, and then started climbing to the roof of the train.

Once there, Max struggled to stand due to the speed and wind, while the monster approached dangerously.

“Why did I agree to come?”

Select appeared quickly.

“I have an idea,” he told Max.

One of the guards tried to attack Select from behind, but he dodged and punched him, falling off the train.

Select grabbed Max and they went down to the last wagon, where they uncoupled it from the rest of the train.

Unfortunately, the creature managed to jump with them.

Edward Smith ran to the penultimate wagon, only to discover that the last one had disappeared.

“Useless, you let them escape with the diary!” Smith shouted at his soldiers, angry. “Thank goodness I memorized it…”

Select and Max looked at the creature, astonished.

“What do you think it is?” Max asked.

“Why do you think I know what’s going on here?”

The creature returned to its human form.

“Who the hell are you?” she asked.

“We should be asking that, considering you’re the cat-woman,” Select replied ironically.

“I thought you were with that jerk.”

Select laughed.

“Not even close! Edward is an idiot with an ego as high as a basketball player’s height,” Select replied.

“So, who are you?” Max asked.

“My name is Kate Wilson, and I’m searching for Excalibur because it’s the only thing that can lift my curse,” she explained.

Select and Max looked at each other.

“Curse?” they both exclaimed.

“I’ll explain it to you.”
