The Curse of Sleepy Hollow, Part 3

The car came to a sudden stop in front of an old wooden bridge. Beneath it, there was a small stream shimmering in the moonlight.

“Why are we stopping?”

“Do you see what time it is? I’m not going to cross,” the driver replied, somewhat fearful.

“You don’t believe in the Headless Horseman, do you? It’s just a legend…”

“I’m not going to find out if it’s real. He can’t cross this bridge, so I’m staying here.”

“Alright, we’ll go on foot.”

After saying that, Select got out of the vehicle and walked onto the covered bridge.

“I never thought a story could affect people so much,” Maxine commented.

After crossing the bridge, the group entered the dark forest of Sleepy Hollow.

The forest looked menacing at night, illuminated by the full moon.

“It looks like something out of a horror movie,” Kate remarked.

“As long as we don’t die, we’re good.”

“That’s not funny, Select.”

Sssh!

The group turned towards the source of the sound.

“Hey, calm down, it’s just the wind,” Select reassured them.

Splish!

Behind them, a shadow was visible among the bushes, indistinguishable.

“H-hello?” Select nervously inquired.

The shadow approached.

The group tensed up, ready for whatever was hiding to reveal itself…

And out of the bush emerged a rabbit.

“It’s just a rabbit!” Select exclaimed, laughing.

Maxine and Kate also relaxed.

“Yeah, what harm could a rabbit do to you?” a voice whispered behind them.

As they turned, they gazed in horror at a Headless Horseman.

“Run!” shouted Select.

The Horseman began to ride towards them as they fled with all their might.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

“What’s the plan?!” Kate yelled.

“Clearly, to run a marathon! What do you think?” Select quipped.

Tension was high; none of them wanted to turn and see where the Horseman was. They just kept running.

They were like that until they arrived in the city, where several people looked at them bewildered.

There was no trace of the Rider.

“How strange…” Select commented, trembling.

“We’ve lost him, well…” Maxine reassured.

“Hey, why haven’t you used your powers? You could have done something!”

“I still don’t know how to control them. I can’t do whatever I want!”

“Let’s calm down a bit, it’s better to find the hotel and rest a little,” Select reassured. “Can’t we grab something to eat first? That way I can relax a bit after this,” Kate asked.

“Alright, go order your dinner if you want while I go get the hotel keys. I’ll join you later,” Select smiled.

Kate and Maxine went in search of a good snack while Select headed to the hotel.

Freya entered the hotel, followed by her butler carrying all the heavy suitcases.

“Charles, faster!”

Charles was tired, but he knew that if he didn’t obey, the punishment would be much worse.

“Yes, my Lady.”

Freya reached the front desk just as another man arrived, looking at him coldly.

“I arrived first.”

“I highly doubt that,” responded Select.

Freya didn’t appreciate the response.

“Do you know who you’re talking to?”

“The Queen of England?”

Freya looked at the audacity of that man with irritation. How dare he?

“My goodness, you’re Robert Select, the famous archaeologist!” Charles exclaimed.

Freya gave him a stern look.

“We’ll talk later, Charles.”

“As I was saying, wait in line,” Select smirked mockingly.

How could a person be so rude?

“Very well, Robert Select… Go ahead.”

Finally, Select was able to request his room without the fury of that unpleasant woman.
