When Alurius awakened she found herself back in her bedroom, The light of a new day was just beginning to shine through her room and her head was throbbing with a most terrible pain. It wasn't until her surroundings were brought into her focus that she noticed a familiar elven figure by her side a book in her hand.
"Sister?" Asked Alurius.
Silvius smiled, turning to face Alurius when she heard her voice. Silvius was a Elf just like Alurius, her skin was light purple, her gaze violet, and her hair long colored with a beautiful white. She wore traditional Elf clothing and her ears decorative with several piercings.
"Good morning, how are you feeling?" Asked Silvius
"Terrible."
"Do you remembered what happened?"
"I think so...Alura and Keira, are they safe?"
"They are, it would seem your guest has quite the appetite for mana."
"She was starving."
"She is a Dreadwing."
"A Dreadwing? You're certain?"
"Quite."
Silvius handed her opened book over to Alurius, Alurius was careful not to lose the page as she repositioned to give it a closer look. The book was heavy and scattered across the opened pages were illustrations of a creature that looked very much like the one she had encountered. The few words on the page were in Elven and in the simplest terms was a warning.
"Dragon's save us..." Alurius mumbled.
Silvius left her Sister's bedside momentarily, moving across the room to fetch two glasses and a bottle of arcwine. Alurius was left to her own thoughts and to inspect the words of warning and various illustrations that were scattered throughout the pages. Dreadwings had not been seen for centuries and were vampiric in nature, their thirst for power an internal struggle they had never quite been able to tame.
"Drink." Silvius said, presenting a arcwine glass in front of Alurius's nose.
If you discover this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.
Alurius took the glass from her sister, raising it to her lips as she began drinking steadily from it. The mana infused wine empowering after having much of her energy drained from her. Silvius sipped sparingly her gaze a watchful one as she noticed Alurius's hand was trembling. Alurius steadied her hand with the other downing her drink in seconds and her stomach waking with a growl the savory scent of nearby venison finding her.
"Hungry?" Asked Silvius
"Very, I feel it's been days since I've eaten."
"It has."
"What?"
"You've been unconscious for several days Sister."
"You were worried?"
"We all were." Said Silvius turning so that she could retrieve the plate of venison for Alurius, offering it to her in exchange for the empty glass Alurius now held.
"Well I'm glad you've come, I've missed you." Said Alurius swapping with Silvius eager to add to her meal.
"I've missed you too." Alurius smiled, grabbed a fork from her plate, and pierced a slice of the venison. Just as the savory meat touched her lips, there was a knock at the door.
"I'll get it." Said Silvius.
Silvius reached the bedroom door, opened it, and found a courier awaiting her with a handful of letters.
"For Alurius." Said the courier.
"Thank you." Silvius took the letters from the courier, closed the door, and went back to her Sister's bedside.
"You have mail."
"I always do." Said Alurius outreaching a hand for the letters as Silvius obliged her.
"How long will you be staying Silvius?"
"For as long as you need."
"While I appreciate the gesture the guild needs you."
"So do you."
-
"I'll be fine Silvius, our guest won't catch me off guard again."
"I would hope so, she almost killed you Alurius even if it was not her intention. I want to be there when you wake her."
"Okay." Said Alurius.
It was several days before Keira or Alura laid eyes on Alurius. They with the help of other Rangers from their company had been taking turns keeping the Dreadwing asleep with their powers. When Alurius finally did return to the room, Silvius was accompaning her. Alura was in concentration, her gaze locked onto the sleeping creature, and her hands outreached to aid in keeping control of the Dreadwing. Keira was resting by her side and waved with a smile as the two sister's entered.
Alurius returned Keira's wave and carefully and quietly made her way over to her with a pre-written note in hand. Keira took the note from Alurius, read it over, and glanced up to question her. Alurius gave a reassuring smile in returning silently communicating her next words to Keira.
"It will be fine." Said Alurius.
Keira sighed, averting her gaze from Alurius looking to the Dreadwing and Alura as she thought on what Alurius had requested. She didn't like the thought of waking the Dreadwing but she also knew they couldn't keep it asleep forever for it was far too taxing. Keira tapped Alura's shoulder, presenting Alurius's note out in front of her, and awaited a reply.
Alura could not spare the words to reply to Keira but she saw the note and although she wasn't thrilled with the request she complied. The spell was ended as Alura let her concentration fade, exhaling as she let herself relax against Keira even if it was only for a moment. Alura grabbed her bow from nearby and so did Keira as they stood with Alurius and Silvius ready to welcome their guest and whatever was coming next.
