7. The Runic Bomb incident of Aranthia

7. The Runic Bomb incident of Aranthia

In the slums of Aranthia, there lived a halfling thief named Tyrius. He had been surviving in the shadows of the city for as long as he could remember. He had a quick wit and was agile on his feet, which made him the best thief in the city. He had always been successful in his ventures, but there was always one thing missing in his arsenal - a magical artifact.

One day, Tyrius heard a rumor about a powerful sorcerer of the Order of the Sun and Moon, who possessed a ring of stealth. This ring would make Tyrius more successful in his future crimes, and he was determined to steal it. He spent weeks gathering information about the sorcerer's home and his habits. He discovered that the sorcerer was very particular about his security and had set up numerous traps to protect his home.

Tyrius had always been a master of his craft, able to slip into any place unnoticed and take whatever he wanted. But this time, he knew he had to be especially careful. The sorcerer he was targeting was known to be a powerful mage, and Tyrius had heard that his home was heavily guarded with traps and wards.

Undeterred, Tyrius spent weeks gathering information about the sorcerer and his home. He studied the layout of the building, the locations of the traps, and the sorcerer's habits. He even went so far as to sneak into the home in the dead of night, just to observe the sorcerer's routines.

Finally, he was ready. He had a plan in place and knew exactly how he was going to steal the ring of stealth. He donned his thieving gear and set out into the dark, quiet streets of Aranthia.

Tyrius made his way to the sorcerer's home, moving silently and carefully. He avoided most of the traps with ease, using his years of experience and cunning to slip past them undetected. But eventually, he triggered an alarm that set off a loud noise, alerting the sorcerer to his presence.

The sorcerer was not one to be taken lightly. He had spent years studying magic and was well-versed in the art of combat. When Tyrius tripped the alarm, the sorcerer was immediately on high alert. He quickly cast a spell that illuminated the entire room, revealing Tyrius's position.

Tyrius knew he was in trouble. He drew his blades and prepared to fight, but the sorcerer was too powerful. He attacked Tyrius with a barrage of magic, and though Tyrius fought bravely, he was no match for the sorcerer's strength.

The sorcerer captured Tyrius and took him to an underground prison deep beneath his home. There, he began to interrogate Tyrius, using all manner of spells and torture to extract information about who had hired him to steal the ring of stealth.

Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

Tyrius endured the torture for days, refusing to reveal any information. He knew that if he gave up the name of his employer, it would mean certain death for him and his family. But the sorcerer was relentless, and eventually, the truth came out.

The sorcerer realized that Tyrius had acted alone and that there was no one else involved in the theft. He was furious that someone would dare to try and steal from him and decided to lock Tyrius up for life, so he could never steal from anyone again.

But Tyrius was not one to be kept down for long. He had spent his life mastering the art of thievery and knew how to get out of any situation. He managed to escape his prison, using a lockpick he had improvised in the prison. He made his way out of the sorcerer's home and fled into the night.

Days later, Tyrius managed to steal an unknown artifact from a temple of the order of the Sun and Moon. He did not know what the artifact was, but he knew that it was powerful. He decided to use it to destroy the sorcerer's home and exact his revenge.

Tyrius activated the artifact, which turned out to be a runic bomb fueled by eldritch magic that the order was working to destroy due to it being specially unstable due to a drunk artisan that made it under the guidance of an eldritch being. And the aftermath of Tyrius' actions were catastrophic.

The explosion had destroyed seven blocks of the city's suburbs and damaged a dozen more, killing dozens of innocent people and leaving hundreds more either injured by the shrapnel or homeless. The city was in chaos as people struggled to come to terms with the devastation that had been wrought upon them.

In the midst of all this, there was a growing anger towards Tyrius and his family. Many believed that they were responsible for the tragedy and wanted to see them punished. There were even calls for them to be beaten to death, as a form of retribution for their perceived crimes.

Thankfully, the Order of the Sun and Moon stepped in to prevent this from happening. The order had suffered greatly from the attack, with many of their members losing their homes and loved ones in the explosion. However, they recognized that taking revenge on an innocent family would only lead to more violence and bloodshed.

The order provided asylum to Tyrius' family, shielding them from the angry mob that had formed in the wake of the attack. They even went so far as to send representatives to speak with the people, urging them to forgive and move on from the tragedy.

It was a difficult time for the city, and it took many months for the order to quell the anger that had been unleashed. With the help of the royal family, they were eventually able to bring some semblance of peace to the city, and the rebuilding efforts began in earnest.

For Tyrius' family, however, there was no going back. The weight of what had happened was too great, and they knew that they could never be truly safe in the city again. So, after the rebuilding was completed, they made the difficult decision to leave and seek a new beginning elsewhere, far from the memories of Tyrius' past actions.
