I blinked twice as I came to my senses, the sharp pain in my eyes caused from the glare of the sudden attack from a bright light causing me to squint.
I tried to lift my head to no avail as a burning pain assaulted my entire body before I could make sense of the situation.
"He's awake! Quickly now, go fetch the doctor in charge of C ward now!" A harsh tone came from near my bedside as I continued to squint up at the bright light.
... What's going on... The last thing I remember was...
"..." I slowly opened and closed my mouth as a dull sense of uneasiness began to creep into my head. I couldn't remember anything at all. Let alone what I was doing before I was in this place but even my own name and where I was from.
I could hear hurried footsteps echoing down a corridor nearby and frowned at the unfamiliar feeling of those footsteps echoing in my ears.
I get the feeling that a human shouldn't be able to feel these sensations but... Wait, human? Is that what I am? This weird feeling of knowing but not knowing...
The footsteps continued until I felt a gaze fall onto me from nearby, the feeling boring into my very being as I felt a large surge of fear begin to course through my body.
"I see. He's certainly conscious but there appears to be a few abnormalities in his bodies functions. Also, judging from his brainwaves... Memory loss as well. Perhaps the operation didn't go as well as we had planned for it."
A seemingly deep masculine voice drifted through the room as a dark skinned man appeared above me, blocking the sharp light from my vision and allowing me to see properly.
"Nick Everdream, age 11. No known allergies and no previous experience with diseases or infections. After being consumed by a large amount of radiation from the 'doorway' he seems to have had an "out of body experience"".
I felt a little tingling in my left arm before a soothing coolness began to spread through my body, pushing the burning pain out from body, is what it felt like.
"It seems the purging of the radiation was a success but a small extra-sensory has taken shape within his body, located near the heart... It may be an amplifier for mana or something similar, like the other cases. In any case, we need to keep a close eye on him for the next few weeks and see how adapts to his surroundings."
I felt another tingling in my left arm before I felt my eyes grow heave from fatigue.
"Not... Yet..." I managed to squeeze out from my parched lips as a strange feeling began to grow in my chest. It felt warm and safe and I had a feeling it would help keep me awake if I just spoke 2 little words.
"..... Forced .... Awakening..." Upon uttering the last syllable I felt a huge surge of strength fill my body as the fatigue was overthrown and sent flying away from myself.
"I see..." The dark skinned man began to write something down onto a clipboard in his hands as he peered down at me with interest.
"..."
"Nurse, I want you to transfer him over to the S Ward with that little girl who can also manipulate magic. It should help him with his rehabilitation if he's with someone similar to himself. Also, make sure to keep the other children away from the S Ward for the time being." After writing a few more notes onto his clipboard, the dark skinned man left my field of vision and began to walk off down the corridor again.
I tried raising my body again and found it incredibly easy to do so as I my whole body almost jumped right out of the bed I was laying in.
"...." I frowned slightly at the almost foreign feeling of my body that I was experiencing, almost like I wasn't used to having a body this small and fragile. I slowly looked over to where I had heard the young female voice from before and almost shook from fear.

"What is it Nick?" She asked sweetly as she titled her head to the side a little.
"It's .... Noth..ing..." I barely managed to squeeze those words out before I began to cough dryly.
The lady was wearing a full white hospital gown thing that covered her entire body and for some strange reason... A while veil that was impossible to see through. I couldn't really tell if she was really young or not despite the young sounding voice.
I slowly turned my body around and pulled my legs from under the covers and brought them to the edge of the bed as i sat there.
"Ah I should probably introduce myself to you. My name is Elementia Hearthshine, the head nurse for the S Ward that you will be transferring to today. I say that but at this point there is only 2 other girls staying there at the moment so you'll be the third person under my care. Ah this is Saint Magica Hospice by the way. It's sort of a hospital slash orphanage slash boarding school of sorts."
I could almost see a soft smile floating behind the thick heavy veil covering her face and felt a small sense of safety and comfort well up inside me.
"Elementia... Why does that name feel so familiar?" I silently blurted that out to myself as I felt the nurse stiffen up a little from the vibrations in the air flow.
I lifted my head up to look at her but couldn't see anything other than a calm, collected figure standing there while holding a hand out towards me.
I decided to pay it no heed and put my own hand inside her own, the warmth transmitted to me gave off a welcoming and nurturing feeling. I slowly pushed off from the bed and tried to stand before I felt my legs give way under me.
"Careful now. You haven't used those legs in over 3 years after all so be careful, you'll need to go through rehabilitation so you can walk properly again."
"Oh... Okay, that makes sense... I guess?" I replied meekly as she put an arm on my shoulder and slowly sat me back down on the bed again before releasing my hand that was tightly clinging to hers.
"Ah, sorry.." I let go before she giggled softly and told me to wait as she went off the find a wheelchair.
I wonder why I feel this sense of apprehension and uneasiness welling up inside me...
I slowly brought my right hand up to eye level and stared at my palm for a moment before I even realised what I was doing and then squinted my eyes to try and make out the faint outline I could barely see. It almost looked like a sword and a moon hanging above it as well a myriad of other little scribbles.
".... Whatever...." I dropped my hand back to my side and waited patiently from the nurse to come back, all the while feeling lost and insecure in the strange surroundings I had found myself in.
Cutting my comeback chapter incredibly short as the next one will have a big build up... And yes I did just do a full 360 on the story and seemingly cut it right in the middle but all will be revealed in due time my friends...
Anyway think of this as the prologue for the next arc in the story that will feature old characters in a new light and new characters that will play a huge role in the growth of Nick and his newfound ungame-like powers.
From this point on I am dropping the game setting and keeping that solely from my other series and am going to gradually reform this into a magic/science setting with storyline similar to the original i once wrote but with a few changes i.e characters appearing in different ways compared to the original etc.
I may one day put the original up here but for now, I'm back beaches~ And on my 22nd B-day of all days woot~~~
