13: Clara 4

We’ve been walking for the last 5 hours and we started seeing more and more trees and various plants.

We even started seeing some gigantic rabbits here and there.

Paul, being almost always on scout duty, noticed some type of giant black wolves. HE told us they were far enough from us and the wind was going the other way so we weren’t in danger for now, but we had to take care.

With this threat, Captain Hertz decided to change our formation a bit, now no one goes too far from the main group and everyone that never fought is in the centre. However, Andrew wasn’t considered a non-combatant even with his new Cook Class. Now he orbits around us with the rest of the soldiers, Paul and Jeremy, with the bayonet they used since the start even with their ammos running low.

While walking, I’ve been humming, trying to work on a new song so that I can level my skills. However, it wasn’t enough for that, but it at least brung a bit more joy to the trek and let the time pass until now.

Congratulations!

Someone originating from your geographical zone met another species from another world.

Thanks to this, a Khron Pillar has been erected in the middle of the Zone.

This pillar holds many meanings and will help you further your evolution in this System.

A joint “eh” escapes from our lips as this message appears before our eyes.

And with that, another rumble, reminiscing of the one 16 days ago, when the System first came into our lives. This time, though, it seems like it’s less loud. I couldn’t pinpoint where it came from and the trees’ crown blocks our views from seeing the actual “Pillar”.

“Middle of the Zone, uh? So do you think it’s in the middle of the city? Do you think we should head back there?” Asks Paul, just passing by me.

“Wait. That’s the thing you notice?! It just said “another species from another world”. It means that someone met something that isn’t human but is intelligent?!” says Julianne, the 30-something woman that was responsible for skinning most of the game that was brought back.

“This is indeed a nice piece of information.” Captain Hertz steps in. “Now we know that there can be sentient creatures that don't look like us, so we can’t fight the moment we see a new type of creature. And Paul isn’t wrong, we have to think on if we should go back toward this Khron Pillar that can help us or do we continue walking towards where UniPo is supposed to be?”

“I think we should continue.” I raise my voice. “We’ve been walking straight for a while now, I think we are almost at the halfway point now. It would be a waste to go back now. And even if we did, there might still be people to save in UniPo.”

“I agree.” Concurs Jeremy. “And if we continue, it’ll be easier to sustain ourselves than going back to the wastelands that is the city. With all the Creslins roaming about and no food sources exploitable…”

“Yes, but maybe this Pillar can actually help us on that part, and for the Creslins, you didn't have much trouble with them, right?” Argue Julianne.

“Alright,” Captain Hertz stops Julianne, “I think we should first check up on the students’ security and then we’ll go back toward this Pillar. Maybe by then someone would have made something out of it? So who’s for this, raise your hand.”

To his loud voice, I see that everyone raised their hands but Julianne and Andrew.

“Alright, by the popular vote, we will continue heading toward the campus!” Now addressing the fighters: “And remember, don’t attack randomly, try from a safe distance communication, there might be sentient beings.”

Walking. Walking. Walking. That’s all we do, nothing much happens but us walking, then stopping to rest and walking again. We never even met any wolf for all those days of walking. They’re more like phantoms, hanging over us, fomenting unrest.

I once read that wolves are actually really intelligent and can stalk their prey for days on end until they’re exhausted and then attack. And the more the days go by and the more I’m thinking those ones are like the ones I read about.

At least, when we camp, I can work on my songs. That way, my status advanced a bit

Trainee Idol; Basic Human

Since I got two levels in my skills, I decided to just complete the Basic Human Path. It gave me one of each stat at the end telling me I was a Human and should stay as one. Quite a strange thing to say, really.

Now, I have no path to advance so I’ll be waiting. For the rest of our group, it seems like no one had the opportunity nor the desire to finish this path so I was the one that experimented.

It would seem most of the soldiers are waiting for Captain Hertz authorization to advance new paths. Paul and Jeremy are both apparently waiting to see if one of their Skills that is near level 10 will unlock a path for them that would be more interesting than the Basic Human one.

Anyway, after all that walking, we are seeing a clearing ahead, this should mark the start of the UniPo campus.

Let’s hope this trek wasn’t for nothing and there are actual survivors here. And also a bed! I need one because sleeping on the ground for so long is killing me.
