Chapter 94

Chapter 94

Heifeng Jiansui sat back and observed while three girls fiercely competed while playing a 16-bit video game. In the beginning he played three or so games, but he handily won all of them so when he stepped back to let the girls play among themselves, they didn’t mind at all.

In this era, these three were his, the Quintessence Sword Sect’s disciples. Accepted by him, the Quintessence Sword Saint as personal disciples, they should be dominating the chaosworld with a single hand.

But unfortunately, the era had ended and even his sect had turned to dust. There was no way to return them as their souls had been condemned, only their memories remaining within the hearts of the few who lived. As the Sect Master, he could only bear their memories in his heart.

Only Shui Yan remained to succeed him. But Shui Yan’s heart was on pursuing a woman who had betrayed him countless times. He was on a quest bound to fail.

Heifeng Jiansui couldn’t stay as the Sect Master yet he didn’t have a successor. He looked over at the three girls happily playing.

Langyu, his youngest disciple, was popping Immortal Dominion Leaves like candy to keep up the race. Refined by her senior sisters, they would allow her to keep up with them in the game. The leaves were ridiculously bitter and nearly useless in actual battles against higher level cultivators, but to close the gap between them in a videogame, it was just the thing needed.

Fu Ying and Fu Li. Plum and cherry blossoms, the two twins were quite similar to each other, happily cooperating to bully their junior.

As it was, Heifeng Jiansui had only met these three disciples a short time ago, so he didn’t really know them well. While their talent was considerable, it was impossible for them to be candidates to be the Sect Master.

It wasn’t entirely due to his chauvinistic attitude. Two of them were secluded from the Chaosworld for near-entirety of their lives and the other… was an assassin, and a grunt at that. None of them seemed to have leadership potential.

Shui Yan, well he was charismatic. In terms of leadership, he was trained in commanding armies due to his past as a Prince. He might not be the best pick for Sect Master, but he was the only one who remained.

Heifeng Jiansui needed to keep the legacy he built from collapsing. Having reincarnated, his karma from the past would pose a huge problem if he wanted to continue on the path of cultivation. And so, he needed to train up a successor quickly.

Karma, it could be described as the principle of causality, of the interaction between causes and effects in the mortal world.

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

Destiny, it could be described as the will of heaven, of the tribulation or blessings that mortals may suffer through no fault of their own.

Karma was easily to control and destiny was hard to fathom.

Having incurred boundless negative and positive karma as the Quintessence Sword Sect’s leader, his Sect had risen to the apex of the past era. The Sect Master would face huge trials and tribulations, but upon transcending them would reap huge blessings and good fortune as well.

Of course, that was if his disciples ascended to the position of Sect Master. If he did, his karma of the past life would realign with the present, the Heavenly Dao would detect his reincarnation and defiance of destiny, ten thousand tribulations would fall with the final result being his soul scattering and spirit returning to void.

The Yin-Yang Perpetual Couple were both Perpetual Emperors, and the binding of fate and destiny was certainly lesser on them. But even so, they entered seclusion to evade their destiny and fate, as even they feared Heaven.

There were only four disciples left. Shui Yan, Fu Ying, Fu Li and Langyu. All of them had a grand destiny, good karma and supreme talent.

Yet all these disciples had faults of their own.

Shui Yan was his last true disciple of the past era, a man of true determination and perseverance, his talents nearly unparalleled even in the past. Yet he was hung up chasing a bitch who would never return his affections and had manipulated him into spitting out all his resources. He had never deviated from this single minded, stupid obsession and finally died a virgin. It wasn’t like he wasn’t smart, but all his intelligence seemed to leave him when it came to this woman.

Fu Ying and Fu Li had risen to Immortal Kings in 100 million years, twins with matching peerless talents whose cooperation and study of similar laws would allow them to battle against a hundred peers and ability to suppress this young era with a wave of their palms. Yet they had lived most of their lives in seclusion and so their ability to interact with people would be certainly low. With their abilities as apex cultivators, they could certainly provide intimidation and power but when it came to actual negotiations with sect heads, guiding disciples and other duties of a Sect Master, they would fall short.

Langyu held the apex innate talent and he path of sword cultivation was destiny to be without peer, her youth holding mighty untapped potential. Yet while she was the youngest of his disciples, her ability to lead would be even lesser than the Fu sisters. Moreover, her past as an assassin would certainly interfere with the path of sword cultivation. While she could surpass her fellow disciples like a soaring phoenix, she could also be shot down.

Momentarily pausing his thoughts on the problem of choosing his successor, he looked at the game that was being played. As expected, the leaderboards were dominated by Fu Ying and Fu Li, with Langyu not having won even once.

Yet another game was going on, the twins taking Mario and Luigi and Langyu choosing Princess Peach. The twins didn’t show any mercy, dealing with the outsider before competing themselves. Even so, Langyu ruthlessly bit down on Immortal Dominion Leaves and ferociously pushed down on the buttons to catch up.

On the grainy screen and 16-bit processing power game, with similar reaction speed and strength, Langyu should have nearly equal chance to compete with the twins. Yet she hadn’t won even once. This was because the twins suppressed her together. But even if they ignored her, their titles as Immortal Kings would allow them power over destiny, making their defeat near-impossible.

Langyu was young, with lesser stamina, concentration, spirit and myriad other things. Her mouth was bitter with the taste of the medicine she used to keep up. She should be persisting simply because she didn’t wish to give up, knowing that there was no chance for her to win.

It was the final lap. The sprites of Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach were competing together. The twins were still trying to beat Langyu out of the tracks. Langyu was trying her very best to hold on.

The finish line arrived. Heifeng Jiansui who didn’t expect a miracle was surprised when Langyu won. The congratulations message appeared and Princess Peach was no.1 on the leaderboard.

At her hard-won victory, Langyu’s punched her fists up and roared like a beast’s victory cry on finally running down its prey, like primordial humans completing a persistence hunt.
