CHAPTER 8

Kurai and Kesshō reached back not long after, heading right to the inn to finish the task. Kurai entered the inn's bar, Kesshō clinging to him like last time. They made their way through the people back to the table at the center and sat down like last time, placing the box on the table.

"Very well, your work is done," The client smiled, not having moved an inch from when they left. "You will receive your payment at the reception." Kurai nodded and prepared to leave. "One more thing," The client called out. Kurai stopped and turned back to him, listening, feeling the several eyes watching him. "How much will it be for that hybrid?" The client inquired.

"She is not for sale, neither is she an object," Kurai replied, his anger visible in his cold voice.

"I take it that you won't hand her over then?" The client inquired.

"Never," Kurai grunted.

"Very well then." The client sighed, raising his hand and closing his palm.

Kuria dashed away just as several arrows impaled the chair he sat at, having been shot from a distance, but inside the inn still. People stood still, all chatter having died down in the bar at the same time. A drunk man approached the client, clearly angry at the commotion, one approaching Kurai too, but with no hostility, having noticed Kurai carried a child.

"What do you think you are doing?" The drunk man questioned the client.

"You should ask that to yourself, filth." The client stepped forward and punched the drunkard, dark blue lines glowing in his fist as he did.

The man's body bounced off the ground and broke through a wall, leaving a splatter of blood in the path he traced. The man approaching Kurai along with many others stopped in their tracks, rushing outside right away, all of them screaming in terror. Kurai noticed through the commotion that the client removed his mask, revealing a face somewhat similar to Kurai's, with darker eyes and shorter hair. Kurai planned to escape, not wanting to bring unnecessary harm to Kesshō, knowing these people were more dangerous than others they have fought before.

He dashed towards the door, but just then the floor near the door rose upwards and blocked the exit. As it turned out, Kurai's guess had been correct, the man did have allies in the bar. There were still ten people remaining in the bar, including the client.

The one who blocked the escape route seemed to be an Earth Dragon, possessing brown hair with swirling streaks of black and white along with two horns similar in color to her hair. Her eyes were a shade of brown similar to her hair, her long dress in a similar color palette, with white gloves on her hands.

Kurai figured there were two Ice Dragons as well, their white attire and blue eyes adding to his guess. The girl wore a white dress with translucent sleeves and the guy wore a coat, both garments having snowflake patterns all over them. The guy possessed a sword with him while the girl carried a staff, a sharp ice crystal at the end of the staff.

Kurai noticed the caster spirit, or elf, as well, her green hair being similar to dryads. Kurai found her to very likely be the least dangerous there, but dangerous nonetheless. There were also a Storm Dragon and a Fire Dragon, both guys, both of them wearing similar outfits to the Ice Dragon, but of colors matching their elements. The Fire Dragon wore a red coat over black clothes while the Storm Dragon wore yellow clothes over dark purple clothes. The Storm Dragon carried a bow and the Fire dragon carried a greatsword.

There were two others there as well, also kids he guessed, just a bit taller than Kesshō. A phoenix wearing red-orange fluttery clothes which complimented her red eyes and hair, her two orange tails meaning either she has lived a fairly long time, or is very powerful, but judging from Kesshō's nine tails he didn't think much of it. The other appeared to be a vampire with silver hair, her left eye being blue and right being red. She wore a blue-white dress with red designs and carried a longsword.

The last ones however, were the only ones whom Kurai actually considered a threat, somewhat worried by their presence even. One being the "client", the other being a Phoenix-Blood Wolf hybrid, greatly resembling Fi but not the same person. She seemed greatly powerful and possessed seven tails, the same number as Fi from Kurai's guess, not as many as Kesshō's but still a large number of tails. She also seemed to have an uncanny resemblance to someone Kurai knew long ago, just like Fi did, and he did not like that fact.

Kurai placed Kesshō down on her feet and dashed forwards to draw attention and secure an escape route. Just as he dashed forwards he glimpsed something flying towards his head and sidestepped it instinctively. The moment he sidestepped he realised that Kesshō stood right behind him. She failed to move as the dagger approached her face, stopping right in front of her eyes.

"You have good reflexes," The guy in black clothes complimented.

"I suppose." Kurai grunted as he tossed the dagger towards the little phoenix girl, startling her as the dagger embedded itself in the wall right beside her head.

"How about doing introductions?" The older pheonix offered.

"Certainly, I wouldn't want someone who helped me as much as you did to die before I get to know them better," The guy agreed.

"I am Lyrule." The caster spirit introduced with a bow.

"Frost," The Ice Dragon guy mumbled.

"Snow," The Ice Dragon girl informed cheerfully.

"Blitz," The small Phoenix girl introduced, overconfidence flowing in her voice.

"Fim," The vampire sighed, seemingly not even wishing to have been here.

"Blaze," The Fire Dragon shrugged.

"Thunder," Storm Dragon informed.

"I am Kristine." The Earth Dragon girl waved.

"I am Freya," The older pheonix smiled.

"And I am Alan, pleasure to meet you," Alan greeted.

"Kurai, and this is Kesshō," Kurai introduced.

"So now, let's return to the problem at hand. I need you to hand her over, but you don't agree to it," Alan reminded. "Then how about we take her by force?"

Just as he said that all nine of them prepared to attack, except Alan, confident of his victory from the looks of it. Kurai seemed ready to fight, but he knew he won't be able to defeat all of them by himself, but he was still willing to risk it for Kesshō. Kesshō stepped forward, ahead of Kurai, flames blazing at the corners of her lips.

Freya shot an arrow at Kesshō but it bounced off, not having been able to pierce through her scales. Kesshō's tails extended, enough to not get in the way, but be able to react in time, just as her wings sprung forth from her back along with her claws from the back of her palms, attaching themselves to the back of her fingers. She bared her teeth and hissed at the enemies, raising her wings and tails upwards as she activated her Demonic Eye of Destruction.

All ten of them felt the pressure from the eye, known to be the strongest of the Demonic Eyes, Blitz taking a few steps back away and tripping on a wooden mug. Fim and Lyrule were also in bad condition, the Dragons holding out pretty well on the other hand. Fi and Alan however, seemed to be near unaffected. Kesshō unsheathed her katana and hissed at the two, also having realised they were the strongest two there.

"Do you think you can take on nine of them?" Kurai inquired. Kesshō nodded with a hiss. "Very well then, enjoy yourself, I will take down their leader, and don't play around, end it fast." Kurai sighed as he prepared to fight Alan.

Alan figured out what Kurai planned to do and gestured his team to fight Kesshō and approached Kurai himself. Kurai walked towards him as Kesshō turned her attention to the other nine. Alan disappeared from in front of Kurai and appeared behind him, blue lines marked on his right arm as he swung it towards Kurai. Kurai turned around and slammed his arm into Alan's, deflecting the punch to the side. Alan swung his arm back towards Kurai's head, but he bent his body backwards and dodged the blow. Kurai kicked at Alan, but he dodged the attack with a backstep.

Both of them stared at each other, knowing they were quite evenly matched, and the result of the battle would most likely depend on whose allies survive after their battle.

"I don't see this being easy," Alan smiled, enjoying himself.
