"Behold! My lord, the strongest and most obedient hybrid ever created." The scientist announced, beckoning to a glass capsule with an egg inside of it.
They were in a dark room, underground, one of the many labs used to create hybrids. The scientist, a man with black hair and green eyes, a genius in this line of work, wearing a white lab coat with a blue shirt and brown pants, the attire anyone ever saw him wearing.
The hero turned to the egg, inspecting it with his amber eyes. He wore his golden armor everywhere he went, the same that every hero before him used, his golden hair matching his armor. He carried his sword in a golden scabbard embedded with jewels, a legendary sword, it's name lost in history.
The egg in question happened to be pink in color, a light shade with lines of a darker tone, easily the size of a little child. The hero had not seen any eggs which looked like this one before, having witnessed the birth of many hybrids in the past. Hero could tell this hybrid, though yet to hatch, would be different than all others.
All hybrids are created, not bred, and hence are not usually born through such eggs. This was the first hybrid that was going to be created in such a manner. Since hybrids are created, they are usually adult-sized from the start, making taming and training them a difficult task. There also existed the possibility of betrayal. Most times, the hybrids followed the commands given to them without any resistance, but sometimes they retaliate.
Creating a hybrid through an egg was the hero's own idea. With news of the new demon king and the destruction caused by his army spreading, every kingdom decided upon its hero. The hero of whichever kingdom slays the demon lord receives the largest share of the loot. This is no easy target however. The last time, out of nine heroes that started the journey, only two survived till the end, one of them having been severely wounded and crippled.
This time, there were only five heroes, as there remained only five kingdoms. Many people accompanied each hero through their travels, alongside their familiars. There was also news of a few kingdoms planning to use hybrids to defeat the demon lord, an unconventional approach. A hybrid is usually five times stronger than the combined strength of the individuals it's created from, making them extremely powerful in general.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
This particular hybrid carried the expectation of being the strongest, created from the blood of the Ancient Evil that was sealed several millennia ago, alongside the vampire princess, and the blood of an intact Excalius Wyvern egg that was preserved in the castle, a sign of a member of the royal bloodline having slain the strongest, and now extinct, species of dragons. Each one of these capable of destroying an entire kingdom by itself, and the Ancient Evil capable of destroying the entire world.
"Are you certain this one will obey any commands?" The hero inquired, skeptical. A creature with this amount of power would certainly not follow commands of one weaker than it.
"That is one thing no one is aware of about the ancient evil," The scientist sighed, seemingly fed up. The hero gave a quizzical look but didn't say anything. "I am forbidden from giving this information to anyone, not even you. Rest assured however, it will listen to your every command. It will not hesitate even if you were to order it to kill itself." The scientist reassured, handing the hero a necklace.
"What is this?" The hero inquired, examining the necklace. It looked fairly plain, a single ruby embedded in it's silver body.
"That is the object you can use to command hybrids, an invention of my own, already tested, only those hybrids which are linked to it however." The scientist explained as he picked up a knife.
"How does the linking process work?" The hero questioned, approaching the scientist.
"It's a sacrificial ritual, just slit your wrist, drop a few drops of your blood on the egg and then on the jewel." The scientist explained, handing the hero the knife and taking the egg out of the capsule, placing it on the ground in front of the capsule.
The hero did just as he was instructed. The color of the ruby changing to pink just as he completed the process, the same color as the egg. Just then did the hero realize what he expected to be a ruby, in reality happened to be a mana crystal.
"As long as you carry that the hybrid will obey your every command." The scientist informed, pleased with himself and his creations.
"This will certainly be useful," The hero mumbled to himself, walking away with the necklace, leaving the scientist to finish the final preparations.
