Chapter 2

“...!? The dao! I can´t feel the dao!!”

Even if Filyir was previously a tempered immortal, it couldn´t be helped that she became surprised. The dao was a fundamental part of the cultivator´s training to achieve power and immortality. It made up a great part of the path to ascension. This was almost like part of their own life to any daoist. After having part of what consisted her life suddenly vanish, how couldn´t she be surprised?

However, what surprised her even more was the fact that it took her that long to realise that. Although it would take some years for a disciple in cultivation to start sensing the existence of the dao, feeling the dao was something that was easier than breathing to her. Or at least, that was how it was supposed to be.

It felt very weird to her to not be able to sense the dao anymore.

It seemed that her soul declined much more than she expected. It wouldn´t be weird if her thought processing was now at the level of a mortal. Rather than that, considering she was now a fairy, a tiny little creature that had nothing of outstanding at first glances, perhaps it might be at an even lower level than that of the average mortal. If that was the case, then perhaps that was the reason why implanting knowledge into the newborn was part of the blessing of the great fairy.

Recovering from the shock, Filyir once again focused her mind on finding a way to get stronger.

She was examining the energies of this world and her current disposition for cultivation. Filyir knew best that only one´s own strength was what could be trusted. Since the model of cultivation has changed now that she was in a world with completely different rules, she obviously needed to get an understanding of it.

However, she became shocked once again. The energies of this world were completely different from the qi of her previous world. By what she saw from the common knowledge of this world she received from the blessing, it seemed that this energy was called mana, which was sometimes also called magic power.

Apparently, there were some methods on how to apply mana were also included. Realizing that, Filyir decided to start by first examining those memories before trying to find out something on her own.

Mana was the energy of nature. It had different types of mana, each which represented different elements.

Those were light, darkness, earth, wind, fire, water. There appeared to be other types of elements, although they were considered variations of those six, and thus grouped together with them respectively to what it derived from. The memories didn´t go too much in details about these other types of elements.

In order to use techniques with that energy, most living beings needed to make use of magic circles; something very similar to the formations in Filyir´s previous life, albeit much simpler. Because they couldn´t directly control the mana with great effect, they had to make use of indirect control.

Elementals, however, could directly control the mana they had affinity with. They didn´t need to bother making use of magic circles.

Elementals were beings that were born from mana. Fairies were an example of an elemental. Although elementals were incredibly good in controlling the element they had affinity with, they wouldn´t be able to control other elements. Even when using magic circles, it still wouldn´t be of much help since the mana would become chaotic and either explode or have the resulting product of the spell being much inferior than the usual. Besides that, for the most part, elementals were usually considerably weak. Even with their better control of magic, they would at most pose moderate threat. It was very rare to see a strong elemental.

There were also semi-elemental beings. Those were living creatures that have elemental affinities despite not being born directly from mana. In addition, they weren´t affected by the same limitations of the elementals. They wouldn´t get as much restricted when using magic of elements they didn´t have affinity with, and on contrast with elements, they were usually very strong. The most known examples were demons and some species of monsters.

Other than mana, there was also another energy that was commonly referred to as “fighting spirit”. There weren´t many details about this, but from what it seemed to be, it was at least very similar to the “battle qi” of Filyir´s previous life, which was generally used on physical attacks to increment their might.

Those were the only types of energy described in the memories. Even so, it couldn´t be said those were the only ones that existed. Filyir knew very well about the extensive variety of types of qi. It wouldn´t be weird if this wasn´t the same for this world.

Other than that, the only remaining information that was worth analysing was about the most common monsters that inhabited the Sohylis greatforest. After going through a quick read on that, Filyir decided that none of them were worth thinking about. Although there were some of them that a fairy would need to take care of even despite their flying capabilities, they still didn´t feel like a threat to Filyir. Since she has just been born, perhaps they would be a threat to her now, but what about after a few years? At best, they would be like little insects, and at worst, small fries that would only serve as cannon fodder if there were enough of them, not to mention that later on, they wouldn´t even be able to breath before dying at the moment they would come closer. Although Filyir lost much of what she knew, she had full confidence in her knowledge of cultivation. It wasn´t for show that she had come to be the figure that was at the top of the cultivation world.

Deciding that she had finished analysing those memories, she moved to the next step; the practical test.

First, she wanted to check whether she still had the heavenly scripture imbued in her soul.

Shortly after concentrating, she could feel a tint of its existence. She probably wouldn´t be able to get much use with just that. Perhaps after having it recover for some time would she be able to use its more miscellaneous functions. But as for fully recovering it up to its previous state, even if she waited for a billion of years, and even if she used her full attention on the recovery during those billion years, it still wouldn´t be enough.

When she absorbed the heavenly scriptures into her body, the heavenly law of her realm immediately made a replacement for it in order to keep its stability. If she was able to get back to her previous world, although her absorbing the scripture was more because of luck than anything at the time, considering the remnants of the heavenly scripture that was in her body, perhaps it wouldn´t be impossible to use it as a gateway to absorb the other one. Now, whether that realm still existed or not was something Filyir had no way to know.

That disgusting lump of void was still alive after all...

Filyir became filled with killing intent at the moment she thought about it. Although it could be said she was a bit worried about her wives, she didn´t care about the state of her world. What disturbed her the most was the fact she lost to him; the opponent she had eagerly been preparing for since millenias. If Filyir was to say that she was the second most arrogant immortal, there wouldn´t be anyone that would dare say to be the first. After coming to realization she couldn´t do anything in regards to that in her actual shape, she finally calmed down.

She wasn´t the heavenly ruler of her previous world anymore. Sending ill intent to others won´t do anything of help.

Having confirmed she still had the heavenly scripture with her, the next step would be to analyze the energy of this world more deeply.

Closing her mind, she focused all her attention on her senses.

She could feel many reddish particles of mana scattered around.

Surprisingly, it seemed that she had a level of sensing that energy not too far from the level she used to have with the heavenly qi. With that said, that energy didn´t have the same profoundness of the heavenly qi. Since she remembered hearing that she was a fire fairy, Filyir assumed that energy was elemental energy of fire affinity.

There were several concentration points of fire mana, and many of them were moving. Those were probably other fire fairies. Filyir made a mental note about that. Seeing that it might be difficult for her to hide herself from other fire elementals, she put thinking of a specific technique to conceal herself amongst her priorities.

Another thing Filyir noticed was that there was a concentration of fire energy underground not too much far away. It seemed that there were some volcanic activities in this area. By what she could sense of the fire mana there, she guessed that it was very stable and wouldn´t erupt any time soon.

She had planned to do some minor tests on the usage of mana, but now that she knew how easy it would be for other fire fairies to notice her, she was worried she would catch too much attention and decided to jump over to the next step.

Now it was the fighting spirit. There wasn´t much information on that, so although she had the feeling it was something close to the “battle qi” of her previous world, she wasn´t sure how much similar they would actually be. In fact, because the battle qi had direct relation to one´s dao heart, she was afraid that the methods to bring out the fighting spirit were too much different even if the energies themselves were to be similar since the dao didn´t exist in this world.

Although the dao heart was the strength of one´s mind, and not the dao itself, they had a close relation. Without the dao, the amount of interaction the dao heart would have would be much less. With different necessities, different methods to solve problems would arise. Filyir had to put in consideration that her mental capacity was that of a mortal, so even if she had as many references as she would want from her memories, it would still take her longer than she was used to in order to make the necessary adaptations.

Once again focusing her mind, she imagined the defeat she had at her last moments. Bit by bit filling herself with killing intent, she started to focus all her might onto her hand, and then onto her index finger. Just to be safe, she made sure that none of it would leak.

Of course, she couldn´t sense it. It was very easy for any person to feel killing intent in one´s own mind, but whether one could make the intent unshakable and make use of it in battle was what it was difficult. She could feel the killing intent in her mind, but she couldn´t be sure if it had any effect on her body. That motion was something she had been doing for countless years. It had become ingrained in her mind, so she could do it with just her intuition.

After being sure of herself, she calmly pressed her finger onto her bed. Without putting up any resistance, Filyir´s finger went through it, making a clean hole into the bed. It was as if she had dissolved anything of the bed that came in contact with her finger.

Her finger went through; it didn´t burst the bed into pieces. This meant that an immense amount of power was accumulated at her finger. Of course, even if it did blow up, there wouldn´t be any problem. Filyir decided beforehand to use her bed as a test due to its very soft nature. Even if it exploded, it wouldn´t make much sound.

With that said, Filyir wasn´t expecting only that to happen. In fact, she also expected the hole to be deeper and wider than the size of her finger; that while still not exploding a hole in the bed.

It seemed that her power was much lower than she expected it to be.

Regardless, it was still somewhat doable. She couldn´t be sure whether that was the same battle qi or not, but that was something she could work with. She decided to put that priority at the lowest. She would rather do more tests about it once she got through the mana techniques of this realm and the matters about concealing her fire mana.

This was mostly because of her current size.

There were advantages for being so much smaller than the opponent in close combat. If you are able to get at a very close range at the opponent, it becomes much more difficult for him to hit you. However, this also meant that you would need speed. In fact, you would need to be much faster than the opponent to properly take advantage of it. While Filyir might have considered working more on it if her test went as she had expected, it seemed her power wasn´t quite there. She expected it would take a while before she could get her strength to give the enough amount of punch for a good acceleration speed. Until then, she would be defenseless.

In addition, because of the smaller build and focus on the usage of speed, there was also the matter about stamina. Just thinking about that made her instantly give up on the idea.

With that settled, there wasn´t anything else that much relevant to reflect about in regards of cultivation. She wanted to first test her mana control and fire techniques to get a better grasp of the rules of the world before trying anything else.

Now, the only thing remaining to think about was about her life from now on.

There was no need to even think about it to figure that she wouldn´t be getting back to her old world any time soon.

What stood before her was a completely new life.

She needed to think how she would live from now on. She would need to think on how to deal with the other fairies. She was also annoyed at how she was female now, and also how she was a fairy, which seemed to be one of the weakest races in this world. She was also worried about their diplomatic relations with other races. The law of heavens that Filyir knew the most was that the strong ate the weak after all.

But most important of all… It was about the great fairy.

Filyir felt she needed to be extremely wary of her. She had stolen her existence as Zhen Wang after all. There weren´t many people she knew that could manipulate other people´s existence other than herself.

Considering what it seemed to be the average strength of the people of this world, Filyir had the confidence she could reach the peak in, at worst, a few decades. Her received memories would tell the great fairy was one level or two below what Filyir believed to be the peak of this world, after processing all the information she had at hands. However she couldn´t trust that evaluation at all.

There was no way someone capable of touching the essence of something as profound as “existence” could be that simple.

She could only hope that the great fairy hadn´t completely discovered about her real identity. Since she could mess up with her existence, it wouldn´t be weird if she could enslave her without trouble. Because she hadn´t done so, Filyir was hopeful of that.

And so, she would need to play dumb in front of her until she could get enough strength.

If it hadn´t been for the great fairy, she would have simply taken over the rule the greatforest with force after training for a few years.

“Now that I think about it, there was that time that I gave my guidance to a group of beasts of a desolate world and accompanied their descendants until they built up a kingdom that extended throughout the world. That was very amusing to see.”

The matter about the great fairy was a serious issue. But even so, there was still a completely new world in front of her eyes. Filyir had started to become bored in her previous world anyway, so this unexpectedly might have come up as an opportunity.

“I still need to think about the great fairy before anything. First, I need to think of a charac…”

“Ah, Filyir, you´ve already woken up!”

Unfortunately, it seemed that Filyir wasn´t going to have the time to make her plans.
