Chapter 6 Academy Life Begin_Slime Tamer's Chronicles

It's been three long years since I was first brought to this world. The first thing I must say is that I know which game this is now. The name of the game in the real world is called Grand Nexus Online.

The name came from the fact that everything in the world is connected which is what Nexus means. One action causes a series of side effects. It's quite true actually.

After I discovered the mimic slime rank up they have spread and become a city wide pet for both adventurers and citizens.

Gel slimes are much less used but with the elemental variants it caused a downfall in mage students who dedicate to the class since having a slime will resolve that.

There doesn’t seem to be a change in armor or weapons, since the slimes still need to eat them to gain the form, so it didn’t affect them. Also the more of one kind of sword they eat the better they can mimic that form.

Now to skip all the jabbering, I bet you are wondering what has happened to me and my family.

First off, I am finally eight years old. The first year we checked my ID every day until we found out my birthday. It was a different date then when I woke up. My birthday was on September 7th.

From then on we always celebrated. Just so you know I appeared here in December and because this country is located on a continent on the southern hemisphere of the planet we have summer in December. Unlike in my original world where I lived in the northern hemisphere, with the seasons switched, summer break happens at the end of the year. Because of that I will be starting school only in February and end in November.

The academy is an entire town dedicated to the school. It is considered a neutral country of its own and is located at the center of the continent where all five Great nations on this continent, which is called Othenia, connect.

Besides this continent, there is the Mu continent and 2 other continents of any large mass and a couple thousand islands scattered along the ocean and surprisingly in the sky.

Yep sky islands exist. Not like I will see any of them any time soon. The school life goes all the way to my 14th year and the last year I get freedom to explore more. That was what Megumi was doing when I met her. Normal kids can’t go past the grasslands but once you reach 15 you can go into the forest.

At this moment Megumi is already 18 and has left to adventure the continent. She is a registered adventurer now and her rank was instantly raised to D rank because of her grades in school. One thing I am excited for is that the school has a ranking tournament for new kids. From there the students are tested and choose the basic class they want. It’s like me who wants both Tamer, mage and monk.

These three classes will make me do three types of tests and class tournaments to see how advanced I am in this.

Now then what you all have been waiting for. My stats, Yep I have trained hard these last years and that damn amazon made sure I was definitely at least up to normal kid standards.

Iron Tail whip

Using your newly gained mana you can make your tail as hard as iron and use it as a weapon. Can break armor and, if hitting bare flesh, will act like a whip and cut the receiver

Boss Constitution (Passive)

Your body is stronger than others to the point of being called a monster. Your health gains a bonus 1000 points

Sigh. I’m completely overshadowed by my tamed monsters in every aspect except magic. Oh and I bet you guys noticed right. Peach is considered an elite monster. Her color probably has something to do with it as well as the fact that she has human transformation. Glop is still a normal minion class monster but don’t mistake it for being weak. Peach just grows with more ease that is all.

Now the best one is Rama. He is the baby fox I found starving. Because of Peach’s milk he became a boss class monster. If you are wondering, the baby foxes from the nest I saved are elite monsters now and with their influence and my ideas I had them make a large connection of burrows for the fox. This way a huge fox pack was born and some people even consider it a low class dungeon, but because the burrow is so small no one can enter and hunt them.

Even with the lesser stats, when compared to Peach, that was because the race was different. Rama is more than twice as strong as a normal adult fox. He is just a bit stronger in strength to Peach and Glop but they are quicker than him.

Well, I guess it's a good thing for a tamer to be overshadowed in strength when speaking about your monsters.

I bet everyone is wondering if they walk around butt naked. Like hell they do. Besides Rama who is a fox, Peach and Glop have clothes. It’s been a long time already that I made gel slimes evolve into clothes. They have what I call, Slime armor. Because I had two full sets of newbie warrior plate armor I made armor mimic slimes from gel slimes using those.

Though I store them in the pocket space for tamer monsters, when I am going to fight or when I start fighting I bring them out and they quickly arm the slimes. Though the chest and leg armor remains for obvious reasons.

Megumi also helped me make some armor and claw weapons for Rama, making him even more dangerous. As you can already guess, he can’t enter the city unless it’s in the tamer guild which is where I live. Yep, the second to last floor of the tamer guild was actually the guildmasters home. They had a real home but Dalton stayed here. I stay there a lot but for sleeping I used to go with Megumi to our house.

It was a huge two floor house in the upper district. Yep, the nobles district. What do you expect, the man is the guildmaster of a huge guild.

It sucked though. When Megumi turned 16 we had a huge celebration and she registered to be an adventurer the same day. I already knew it was coming but still, it sucks. She spent the whole week with me but at the end she finally set off.

After she left, Rio was the only one I spent any long amount of time with. The Elf maid was really nice and smart. She also seems to be experienced with forest type creatures and is a mage tamer like I want to be. Mage tamer is a name used for those who use magic instead of physical strength as a tamer. She does that more but her physical strength is nothing to scoff at.

Now about strength, that damn amazon put me through hell. Though that is my personal view of it. The real thing is much less drastic. I did all the same exercises the other kids did but I had a much slower growth. It was only thanks to the slime milk that my growth was accelerated to a normal child's level. When I was finally able to reach the proper base for a child at seven years old. The crazy amazon took it upon herself and made me do some more intense training. She got a permit to take me into the forest for about a month so that I could learn to take care of myself in the wild.

It was this reason that I reached level five. You might have noticed but humans and other sentient creatures level up much slower than monsters. For me, I do so even slower than that because of my constitution which makes me weaker. I need to put in at least 10 times more effort to get the same outcome as others in the case of gaining stats. As for leveling up it's 5 times. I need 5 times more Exp than others to level up.

So you can understand, to reach level 2 normal people need 100 exp. For me I need 500.

Because of this I am forced to rely more on training myself instead of relying on my levels. In all respects though. I think it's better this way.

Remember that stupid mage’s party I beat up with Peach and Glop? Well they became some hot shot adventurers but at a single look at them I could tell, and so could every other trained person. These guys relied heavily on the magic artifacts and equipment they gained.

Obviously there were many people who used them but the difference is that most train themselves. It's been taught long ago to players that completing the beginners training dojo is the best thing you can do. Apparently, these idiots didn’t do that and just went about doing requests until level 10 and got their job.

Total morons if you ask me.

For me, I can’t beat them now since they have already ventured far but it’s not like they are any good either.

Well let's forget about stupid idiots like them for now. At this time I am more than happy to forget because I am now crying in Rio’s arms because I will miss her.

We were in front of Dalton’s real house in the nobles district and all the maids and servants were out there cheering for me.

I had grown familiar with them and they like me since I showed massive promise as a tamer and the time we spent together.

In front of the house on the road was a car waiting for me. On its side was the emblem for the school. It was a large book in the back with a sword and staff crossing each other and then the school's name in the front. The name “Othenia Grand Magic Academy” was written on the side. They told me that the car was special and used a unique type of magic called Space magic which allows for high speed travel. No normal human can use it but items allow it.

After a bit Rio let go and I went and hugged everyone. My luggage had been loaded into the trunk already and all that was left was me.

After saying goodbye to everyone I look at the two slimes waiting.

“Ok guys let's go.”

The two nod and after I give the order, the armor slimes were unsummoned and allowed to do as they liked in the pocket space while Peach and Glop were told to return to slime form.

By habit already, the two jumped up and landed on my head which had become their personal perch.

I got in the car and waved goodbye.

In moments, the car left with just me, my slimes and the driver.

The driver drove fast but at highway speeds like any other but his destination was called the jump zone. Think of an airport but for a high speed magic car that uses magic to jump. The long empty road was there to allow the car to reach the required speed to perform the jump to the academy that was more than 3000 km away.

The place was filled with other cars waiting to jump so many people were outside. The driver says everyone here is waiting to jump to the academy.

I exit the car and watch as the next car gets in place. The road had many runes drawn on the asphalt. The driver said that those runes helped to reach the max speed of 200 mph that is required for the jump.

At that time the car screeches the tires as it starts running on the road. The speed gathered and the runes began glowing brighter as the speed rose and as soon as it reached the middle of the track the brightness reached its max and the car burst forward leaving two lines of fire where the car accelerated.

The first image that appeared in my mind is like that from the movie “Back to the future” there was no other way to explain it. The runes on the ground glowed again and the track was cleaned quickly and soon after the next car went the same way.

I bet you are wondering how I even know about that movie in 2095, the year I died. Obviously last century movies have their charm. They made great movies with their still unsophisticated graphic programming yet they made really great movies.

For the next hour I watched one car after another go through and finally it was our turn.

The driver told me to unsummon the slimes and put my seatbelt on. I’m really thankful that I was reborn into a modern world instead of a fantasy one.

The driver revved the engine and accelerated slowly gaining speed. The next moment I saw the windows shine and I instantly recognized it. What happened was the car was covered with a high class light barrier when used around a body supposedly you can move without being affected by the air resistance.

“You have a good eye miss. I see you already know what happened to the car. Prepare yourself because first timers normally can’t handle the jump.” The driver said.

He said that with a grin and floored the pedal forcing the engine to roar and the speed rapidly rising to 200 mph.

As soon as we reached the center of the track where it hit the max speed, the space around us seemed to stretch to the horizon and we moved far too fast for a normal car. The next moment the space returned to normal but we were in a completely new place.

The buildings outside were tall skyscrapers made of white painted steel or some other magical metal. To my surprise the clouds were near the outside of the building as well as far up in the sky.

“Welcome miss, to Othenia Grand Magic Academy. The single city neutral country that exists on the grand sky island Megathina.” The driver said.

“S-sky island. I thought the academy was at the connection point of the five nations!” I said.

“But it is, miss. That location is here. This island floats 6000 meters above that exact location and it's chained to the five great mountains below that keeps the island from floating up.” He said.

“Eh?” I muttered.

“Haha, I guess you don’t know huh. The chains of the five mountains are chains made by the gods who used their divine power to rise and chain this island to this spot. These gods instructed all the nations to use it as neutral ground to teach our young and to use it as a political ground. The idea worked well because both middle class and nobles make contacts here and build their future. All the kids here will lead the future so with the five nations having connections together Othenia has had no wars for the last 300 years since the academy was built.” he explained the history of the continent.

“What about other countries?” I asked.

“Well they don’t attack because the five nations are very intimately connected. Attacking one means you risk fighting all five at once.” he explained.

I finally understood what this amazing place was. Even so, I saw large white walls circling the metropolis that made up the academy.

“If you're wondering, yes there are forests and more outside the walls. The area here holds up to level 20 monsters which are used to train the students. Still, you're quite amazing, miss, not even a bit of discomfort from the jump.” the driver said.

He said that just as we stopped at the end of the track and entered a road connecting to the highways.

“Well, I think it's because I have lots of mana or something else I don’t know about.” I replied.

“Could be. Anyway we will be arriving at the girls dormitory soon.” he said.

I nod and look around. Outside was dark unlike the day before. The academy was northwest of the city I lived in so it was still night time. In the sky, the dark blue night sky was still filled with stars and the massive gas giant the world revolves around could be seen. Yep this planet was a moon around a greenish colored gas giant that filled a part of the night sky every night.

I like to stay up at night and watch the sky. The world is so alike yet different from the real world. You can’t say this was a game world. Players were just blind humans that wanted to escape reality but they brought their problems here. Still there are quite some nice and cool ones. Not that I have met many. Just a few martial artists who appeared at the training center and asked for Belladona's tutelage.

Soon we arrived at the academy’s main school building. The school looked more like a castle. It had at least 20 floors, not counting what could possibly be below.

To both sides were two separate complexes of apartment buildings. The complexes had a large wall separating them from the school and the other complex. At the gate of each there was Girls Domitor, Boy’s Dormitory and Grand Magic Academy written above the gate which were double doors with a metal arch that didn’t separate with the gate.

The girls' dorm was to the left side from the entrance.

The entire place was loaded with cars entering and leaving. After a few minutes my driver parked in front of the gate and someone came and opened the door for me. It was a young girl with short green hair but with two long braids that came down the front over each shoulder.

“Greetings, I will help you transport your luggage to your room.” She said.

I nodded and the next moment the trunk opened. The girl snapped her finger and the two large suitcases floated out before vanishing into her inventory.

“Wow!” I said.

The girl blushed a bit before beckoning for me to follow.

The girl led me into the girls dormitory and into an administration office and spoke with an old lady.

“Child, what is your name?'' the old woman asked.

She addressed me with a stern sharp eye showing a strange strength behind her. It was clear this old lady was far more than she showed.

“Kuroko Melody Ginshiro.”

Yep I adopted Megumi’s last name and not Daltons. The old lady looked through the pages one after another until her eyes opened slightly and she nodded.

“Okay, I have confirmed you are in this year’s classes. The ranking tournament begins after the opening ceremony today. Your room is in Building 2, floor 5, room 1. The little halfling will help you get ready. The school uniforms are already in your room so you only need to organize your own personal clothing.” she said.

“Thank you madam.” I bow which makes her brow raise a bit and a small smile appears before she hides it and nods going to the next child.

The little halfling maid took me to the building that had a large number 2 over the door and then using an elevator we went to floor 5 and finally room 1. She pulled out a small white metal card with a magic circle on it and passed it in front of a strange pad that looked like one of those old magnetic key locks found in hotels in my old life.

The door unlocked and she held out the card.

“This is your key, I would suggest leaving it in your inventory at all times. If your room changes, the key will be used for the new room as well so don’t toss it away.” the maid explained.

I took the key and nodded.

The insides were made for a girl. With a single bed room with light pink walls, a single bed, a plain desk and a walk-in closet with half of the hangers already full of uniforms and school shoes. Though it looked like an apartment building it was still a dorm so I only got a room. Still one just for myself. I thought it would have roommates but then I saw the door that connected my room with the next room to the right.

The maid pulled out my luggage and dropped it on my bed. In them were my new clothes since I have long since out-grown those beginner dresses and bought new stuff.

“Well with your things dropped off, please dress yourself in one of the uniforms, I will return in a bit to bring you to the auditorium where the welcoming ceremony will take place. From there everyone will go to the stadium where you will be tested and see which classes you will take.” She explained

“Thank you for the help.” I said.

The maid blushes and leaves.

I breathe a sigh of relief as I am finally here. For the next year this is my room. AH~! I am so excited for the tournament. I can’t wait to show off my pets' skills. I will totally blow everyone away with all the slimes and Rama. Hehe, I can't wait.
