Chapter 10 Class Begin

Chapter 10 Class Begin

This night was grand. I didn't expect that I would sleep so well. During my three years here I gained a few girly traits which I didn't really try to fix.

One was my sleeping habit. I slept with Megumi the first year before she left to go on an adventure and then, seeing how I had trouble sleeping, I stayed with Rio during the nights.

This was until I came here. When I thought that I wasn't going to have a roommate I kind of panicked, but that didn't matter now.

When the halfling maid came to wake us up Peach opened the door after I sleepily told her to. The maid came in and turned the light on before spotting me in bed… in Kumi's bed. Yep, my new huggy Kumi felt just as comfortable as my big sister and mother figure. And no, Dalton wasn't married.

Megumi was his stepdaughter from his previous marriage but her mother died and he stayed with her because no one from her mother’s or biological father’s family wanted another mouth to feed unless it came from them…

Anyways, the mini maid had a fit and tried to wake us up with her yelling.

When Kumi saw me using her as a hug pillow, and she was enjoying it, she turned bright red. Apparently she did that same with her own big sister so she actually slept better with me hugging her. Heehee~

After listening while laughing to the mini maid’s five minute long high pitched sermon on why I shouldn't do that, I simply said. “I can't sleep well without someone to sleep with. Really uncomfortable to the point that I could even wake up at night. Would be bad for my studies if I didn't sleep well.”

She was about to start another lecture but I got up and asked her if it was time for breakfast which she said it is and we need to get dressed in our uniform.

We nod and after handing her yesterday’s dirty pair of uniforms, I put on another set. Kumi does the same but unlike me, who makes a low ponytail to draw less attention, she makes twin ponytails on mid way up. It made her look more childish.

Yesterday she had left it loose which made her look a bit older but now she looks younger.

“What good genes, she can choose to look like a little girl or a mature young noble. Her family must be proud to have an air mage that has good looks as well.” I thought.

To finish up I took my three slime milk drops and then put on my new gravity weights.

What's new? Well the old ones were ugly, and are put on my ankles and wrists right? Well these are stronger so the weight is heavier but I only need two small bracelets. It’s a simple blue metal bracelet that lacks any detail besides a very tiny gem on top of it. The gem I use to unequip it. I need to put 20 mp in it and it’s magically transferred to my inventory.

I put them on and quickly feel my body weight triple. The old ones were only doubling my weight and would normally be used until strength was at 40 points but because of my body it will only raise a bit after 20 so I need heavier weights.

The Amazon told me to send her a message or card when I notice that even after a month my strength doesn't rise and she will send a new set my way.

“Hey, are you alright, you seem to be moving slower than before.” Kumi asked worriedly.

“It’s the bracelets, Miss Shitara. They have been enchanted with pretty strong gravity magic which tripled her weight.” The halfling maid explained.

She instantly looked my way, worried.

“This is the simplest way for me to increase my strength and agility.” I said with a wry smile trying to calm her.

“Was that medicine you took made to help you?” She asked.

I smiled weakly and pulled out the vial before showing it to her. “It’s not medicine, alchemy made medicines are bad for my health. I tried it once, I can't take anything like that. Even regular potions give me a bad reaction.” I explained.

“Wait! Even Heal pills and health potions you mean?” Kumi said in shock.

I nodded but before she could say anything I pulled out a canteen. “This is a slime product we discovered last year. It opens the possibility for people like me.”

What I gave her was a unique potion we gained from a strange type of healing slime.

Herbal slime potion(10% purity)

This potion is made from the extracted slime of a new breed of slimes that feeds off herbs. The mixture is much greater than traditional potions because its purity is higher.

This blend heals 300 hp in an instant and 150 more over the course of 1 minute as well as helping to stop bleeding in shallow wounds. Bruises will heal faster as well.

Both of them could only look in wonder of the products I held and what I needed to use as alternatives.

“These are rather strange products. May I have a sample of each? The school's doctors need to know about this so if something happens to you in particular we can heal you better instead of making things worse.” The maid asked.

“Alright.” I hand her five canteens of the potion just as we arrive at the dining hall.

The kitchen is on the left where several cooks were making the food and putting it on a buffet table while in the half filled room there were already around 80 other kids ranging from 8 years old to 14. The top students for all the years.

“Simply grab a plate and the type of food you want and eat. Classes begin at 8:00 so I will return at 7:40 to guide you and those of your year to your first class where you will receive your class schedule.” the maid said.

“Thank you for the help.” I reply.

“Just doing my job.” She said that while blushing. A few kids looked strangely at us for some reason. As me and Kumi looked around we spotted the four royals on one of the tables near the back.

When one of them saw me they waved to come over.

I picked a tray and a plate, then put them with some of the food on the buffet which is a wheat bread, smoked beefs & salad with some kind of mayonnaise on it and a bowl of steaming warm soup as a side to soften the bread, not to forget green tea as the drink ,and then went over.

Again we were being watched as we sat down. I was sitting next to Stephanie, who was to my left and Kumi sat in front next to the dragonoid.

I started eating salads first, I was always a fan of green food in my previous life because it helps with my body growth which, when we’re talking about my current body, I definitely need a lot of it. The salads are fresh and crunchy, mixed with the sourness of the mayonnaise which makes me not get enough of it and chomped it all down in a matter of minutes. After the salad I tried the smoked beef, they taste juicy and at the right texture of firmness, making me happily chomping it away not in one chew but more.

After that I tried the bread, I put the bread on the soup then stuffed it into my mouth. The crunchy-ness of the bread dripping with the warm soup tastes heavenly, then after I finished the bread up, I slurped down the whole bowl of soup slowly to enjoy it.

Finally after eating, I drink the green tea which has the thickness and texture that reminded me of Japanese’ green tea that I usually drink when I try to calm myself down after getting too stressed, which I bought from a local Japanese Restaurant. When I’m done drinking it all up, Nova suddenly said.

“Hey hey, did you notice, everyone is staring?” Nova exclaimed.

“Yes, I did notice. I was wondering why.” Stephanie commented as she looked around.

“Probably checking us out. We ‘did’ put on a show for them that destroyed the arena so they might be wondering exactly how strong we are?” Owen said.

Asher chuckles at this but suddenly three boys from a different table stand up and walk over. Ever watched an anime where delinquents walk sort of laid back poses with their uniforms unbuttoned and messy look? Yep just like that. These wannabes came over and when the leader reached the table he slammed his right hand on the table shaking everything on it and even made a few cracks on the ground.

Everyone just looked at him with a blank or confused expression.

“Well, if it isn’t the baby squad that tried to show off yesterday. Who are you all?” the Delinquent leader said. He made a gentle smile which only made him look that much more disgusting. I turn my head and see the other kids from his table laughing.

“Is there something you need from us?” Owen asked.

“Oh, sorry princess, I didn’t notice you, I was hoping to hang out with the little elf or maybe the little green fly.” Delinquent leader said.

Me and the four royalties were quickly losing our patience with this guy but before we could do anything a sudden flash of lightning appeared to the right and the blond kid, i think he was called Zachary, appeared and in a swift motion connected his left foot to the guys face and sent him flying into the wall on the far side of the dining hall.

“Annoying little shit, can’t even tell when he is speaking with someone stronger.” Zachary said, sneering.

He landed on the ground gracefully and even with a plate with his food on it.

If I remember correctly, he is a half demon-half human hybrid. Demons have many tribes and from the looks of it, he had something related to lightning.

“Yo Zap, as flashy as always.” Owen said while chuckling.

The boy frowned. I had seen him from far away but it was the first time I noticed. Besides the blond human look, which is a complete contrast to Owen, his eyes were very different. The parts that should have been white, known as sclera in biology, are coloured black and with his Iris blood red.

When I turned to look at Owen suspecting him to have the same eyes because he’s of the same race, I only saw regular human eyes with white sclera and black iris.

“You should probably control the eyes Zap, seems someone noticed.” Owen said. He gestured to me.

When I looked back at Zach, I saw the black fade away leaving white in its place and the red dulled into a brownish yellow, almost golden eye.

“First things first. OWEN STOP CALLING ME ZAP!!!” Zachary shouted. The outburst was so sudden that it made those not ready for it jump, mainly those at other tables. “Ok with that taken care of, I'm sorry for letting you see something unsightly. My demon eye comes out when I get a bit agitated and use magic at the same time.” he said.

“Oi brat, don't you just ignore us!” one of the lackeys said.

One of the three delinquents that still remained had been blabbering without any of us noticing and as soon as he touched Zachary's left shoulder, he was hit with a full blast of lightning. He fell back unconscious while his body spasmed and lost his bladder control, leaving a puddle of yellow in its wake.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

“Wow… I'm wondering if I really should be ranked 5.” I said.

“I doubt it’s wrong. The thing you destroyed was a high leveled middle rank nature spirit. Estimated power is equal to a level 58 boss monster in a dungeon that focuses on strength. I could never do that much.” Zachary said.

“Eh? Was my attack really that powerful!? Well I did load that fireball with nearly 4000 points worth of mana but it couldn't be that powerful right?! ...Right?!” I thought.

I look from him then to each person who seems to read my thoughts. Again I start sulking as I realize how much of a show off I was. Still, if I had focused solely on magic during my three years it would have been stronger… oh i see now what they mean.

The simple fact that I trained physically saved me from out shining the four royals.

I slowly start eating while Zap sits next to Owen. The last delinquent was dumbstruck as was his group. I’m sure we are throwing the balance of power or whatever off. From the looks of those younger than the boy who came over, it wasn't the first time he did that.

Well he was out cold and one of the maids came soon after before taking him away. Asher says the first day confrontation is supposed to happen as it will mark if we are predator or prey, the bully or the victim, the fist or the punching bag, the chicken or the crocodile, the deer, you get it right.

Eventually the other new students and the rest came in and began to eat. Those who actually came over were the redhead that fought Peach and Glop and started to chat with me about how skilled they were and about how they could be better. The elf I beat coming over and sitting next to Stephanie and chatting with her and me about magic. And all the remaining ones of the top ten.

From eleven to twenty they took the next table and even then they started chatting with us.

Like before a different set of bullies came to see the larger group. It was a girl this time with blue hair. Unlike before she seemed to take personal offense at how smug we were.

Apparently a good number of the top 20 for our group were nobles and the girl started to insult them for being rich and well off while her family starves near the frontiers.

The continent isn't just the five countries and there are other ones around us so around those areas the crime rate and public order is much worse because of other countries. Even if we wanted the capable manpower to cleanse the city would need to be as high as the king's right hand going there personally and under the king's name removing all senators and the lord of the cities and appointing new people of confidence.

Like I said, it's not an overnight-done-kind-of-problem.

Slime knights are being bred and trained to be dispatched to cities with bad public order. They would be able to infiltrate where it matters and strike quickly while ambushing the criminals.

Slimes with assassin class are difficult to train because you need to give the very precise orders and if things go wrong then you need to unsummon.

It’s the main reason mimic slimes are still in research. We did know that if the slime has an animal form before gaining humans they can get a demi-human form which lets them keep the animal form.

We really need to increase their wisdom and intelligence so they can gain sentience. At mimic slime phase they only gain intelligence only when you have them merge a new type of slime nucleus.

Getting back on track, the girl was 12 years old and was rank 5 of her year.

Obviously those who brag normally do that to intimidate but it doesn't work.

When no one answered she got annoyed and took a step back. From her movements she was going to kick the table but before she could even lift her right leg, her left leg sank into the ground and a pillar of stone shot out in front of her hitting her right in the gut hard making her faint. It was a quick suppression attack that was used by rank 12 of our year.

She was one of the few non nobles and she was even from the frontiers of the beastman country.

“If you want to complain then do so while doing something about the problem.” the Rank 12 said.

That was all she said before we all began to eat once the disturbance was taken care of.

Soon we finished and the maids all came and after one cleaned up the mess we were prohibited from doing anything else like this anymore and were taken into the school.

Besides us 8 year olds, the rest were taken upstairs while we were given a tour of the first floor.

Apparently this school is built with each floor being for each grade. Our year is on floor one and it progresses up. The school has much more because besides the regular classes it gives, it also teaches a trade or in other words craft skills. The classes were numbered similar to japanese schools. Our class was 1A the other classes continue down the alphabet and the number changes with each floor.

Inside was what looked like a classroom out of a harry potter movie but with a touch of modern furnishing and decor. The room was wide and a semi circle where you entered from the front. Where the seats begin it was raised half a meter up and with each progressive row it raised up more. At the middle and sides of the row were stairs to reach the seats.

At the flat wall on the floor was a black board and raised on a small platform was a desk for the teacher. Sitting in the seat was a man that seemed to give me a sense of dread.

He looked like Owen yet his aura was that of death. It wasn’t only me who sensed this, all students in the top 5 sensed it. The others just saw him and bowed.

“This is Professor Albert Solace. He is your homeroom teacher.” the maid said.

Seems she also didn’t notice. The man stood up and walked over. He wore a black suit under an open robe. He was pale with pure black eyes and hair. If I had to say anything he looked like an adult version of Owen but with the aura of a murderer.

The five of us turned pale the more he drew near and stopped in front of us five. His eyes felt like it was looking into our soul and was about to pull it out of our bodies.

“Seems there are more talents this year compared to the last few years.” Albert said.

His voice held an empty tone void of any emotion.

“Yes professor, you were absent but the prince and princesses tested their max power against each other and broke a hole through the island.” the maid said.

“Oh? That is quite a lot of power the children are holding. And what of the silver haired one?” Albert said.

Seems I’ve become the target of this mad man... Please let it only be my imagination!

“She destroyed a mid rank elven summoned nature spirit summoned by Miss. Greenleaf.” the maid said.

His eyes went to the elf girl next to the princess who just looked at him. He looks disappointed at her for a moment before sighing and suddenly this killer pressure vanishes but us five grew even paler. The reason was that the killing intent was very still but present and we five could feel it even more now that it was quiet. My hands started to shake and when his eyes landed on us I saw a very brief smile before his solid poker face went up again. Finally it vanished completely but fear had been firmly planted in us and we knew better than anyone that this man was far more than all five of us combined could ever deal with at our age.

“Take a seat. Doesn’t matter where. Class will begin. You halfling, stay. You will help me for a bit.” Albert said.

The maid bows to his orders and remains while the extra ones leave to do their duties.

We take our seats on one of the desks there. There is a strange book with no pages, just a hard book cover that opens to a pageless book and an ink pen with no ink on the desks.

“First off, those are your school materials. Both are magic items you will keep in your inventory at all times. The book creates a page with your mana and the pen makes the ink the same way.” Professor Albert explained

So straight out making us expand our mana to increase it while we study. For some of us it's not hard at all but for those with less control in mana, this will be the perfect exercise for focus and mana control.

“First off, I want to know exactly how much mana each of you have. In order by rank, say out correctly your amount. If needed, open your status to check.” Albert ordered.

There wasn’t any choice of rejection so we had to comply with this demonic man.

One by one we say it. Nova had over 6000, the same for Stephanie while I had in the mid 5000s. Asher and Owen all had more than 5000, from there everything was below 2000.

I was sweating buckets because everyone was looking at me now. To have comparable mana capacity to the four royals is slowly making me feel worse. I should be happy but I can't help sulking about having so much. Just so you know, Eleanora has around 1700 but has average control of her mana.

From there we were handed our schedule that showed all our classes.

The list was impressive. Well the required classes were all good. Basic subjects like Math, Literature, Etiquette were most likely because many people who actually leave here end up with at least a lesser noble ranking after many years of working. World history and Geography for understanding the world and its natural phenomenons. Monster studies so we don’t die from an unknown monster, and Physical Education, self explanatory.

Still I find it annoying since I have Reinforced Physical Training as an extra class. Though I need it, still the tamer and mage course was expected for the most part.

Now the part that had me eating at the page was the optional classes. I swallow hard seeing all the options. The first one I chose is Cooking. I already had the skill but I knew how to make monster bait and not real cooking. Problem is that I was sweating buckets now on what else to choose. My eyes were drawn to dungeoneering. Imagine making a dungeon for yourself, so epic. Still I refrain since I want to actually explore the world and not be stuck in a cave.

I look from one to the next wondering what I need. Alchemy is useless for me because my body can’t take chemicals. Blacksmithing I need to gain more strength before I attempt it and I can’t just go do it half-assedly for a single year. Unlike players I need to take more time to learn skills. Tailor I can do but it's boring. Sculpting no, just no. Intense labor for low income and though it will help with my strength and dexterity I don’t need it since it would take up too much time with each sculpture I make. Handicraft is simply crafting in general and working your hands well, that includes with the sword or wand. Tinkering I have no clue, but it’s something related to dwarfs and blacksmiths. Enchanters don’t care about it, most are picked up by guilds anyway to keep their equipment buffed. Jewelry craft no thanks. Another skill that makes me stay put. Runecrafting I don’t know what that is so I will need to learn a bit more and finally carpentry. Hmm, maybe. I need to make wands but...

Looking at all the options I frown as I can’t decide.

I look around and nearly everyone is the same.

I ended up picking alchemy for my second class. Though I can’t use medicine, alchemy involves natural medicines as well so I can just use the slimes for it. A few mistakes can lead to a new slime or two and success will make new natural slime medicine, not to mention that slime medicine uses potion recipes with some fine tuning.

After I finish, the entire list vanishes and only the classes I have to attend remain in a list format. Next to each of them is the number of a different room. Those for basic studies are all here in this class and are done in the morning until noon. After we eat lunch we then go to one of the required extra classes, which for me changes with tamer and mage courses. I have two classes per week and reinforced PE only once. This is until around 4 and the next four hours are split between the optional classes two hours each.

After a while everyone finished choosing and was relaxing while we waited.

“Seems everyone has chosen. Good, your optional classes have also been registered and should report to the class on the proper time. If you haven’t noticed yet but there is a clock just above me. The bell will ring when it is time for lunch and one of the maids will come back later today to pick you up. The schedule when placed inside your books will attach itself so make it your first page and then make a new page so we can begin our study for the day.” Albert said

We do as he tells us. I open the pageless book and put the schedule page on the binding and pour a bit of mana into the book and the page attaches. I then focus behind it and pour more mana. Soon a new page appeared from the binding, a pure white paper. I grabbed the pen and after a bit of experimenting I found out it had a small gem on its head that held the mana. You fill it up and as you write, it’ll automatically make the ink.

With that done we all listen to the monotone voice of the murderous teacher who we will never go against for the fear of our lives.
