Chapter 24
Chis was silent as the declaration wash over him, should he run? Maybe have Zayne kill these two that way their cover wasn’t blown. No, she already said that others were in on that knight sir Ogre was dead. He turned over to his companion trying to judge what he was thinking. Wait, I can just sign it to him that this was a bad situation. He quickly started to convey what was happening and what it meant for both of them.
Zayne to his credit was able to keep up with what was going on before Chris started to sign. That was thanks to Foulness and Jiminy, as they started bickering when Zayne spotted the lady sitting comfortably in the chair.
“Oh fuck, oh fuck. Zayne we been found out! Kill her!” the was Foulness’ take of the situation. Me while Jiminy was telling him to confess all of his sins.
“If you do it know maybe they will forgive you, one can always be forgiven as long as their heart is in the right place.” Jiminy spoke in a tranquil tone.
Foulness started up again. “How the feck is he going to be forgiven when it was he who killed the knight in the first place. Then lets not forget that he killed all of the villagers.” He started to foam out of his nonphysical mouth.
“There is always a way to seek redm-” the two voices started another fight inside his head when Chris turned to him and signed what was just discussed.
Zayne signed back that he already knew all that.
The lady held their gaze for a moment before saying “You should know that I can understand you when you speak in thief. Though yours is more ancient than I have seen in a long time. Are you part of the upper echelon of the society?” there was fire in that gaze that started to make Chris’ legs wobble.
Zayne turned to her and sign -I will kill you-. Chris started to break under the pressure of the stare, so he came clean.
“No, we just arrived in this world and we didn’t know who was who, and who to trust. Then my friend here seen a knight with shinny armor deciding that it was too shiny to not take for himself an-” Zayne bitched smacked Chris to get him to shut up.
The impact of the slap reverberated across the room as Chris fell unconscious to the cobble stone floor. Zayne stared at he for a brief second when the man on the floor let out gas he was hold in. The noise was distinct as it slowly rose in pitch.
Zayne looked over at the two that had cornered them, waiting for a response to what he had just done. The night captain kept a straight face and so too did the woman until she couldn’t hold it in anymore and let loose laughter.
“That was probably the funniest thing I seen this week.” She said with mirth in her voice as she whipped away tears. “I was going to tell you that I already knew that you weren’t from here but you went a told me that yourself. No, its not uncommon for people to appear here on Galaria but I thought we weren’t due to get more humans for another couple of decades.” The room slowly brighten as the candle flames grew bigger.
She had a thoughtful expression on her face as she contemplated what was revealed to her. “I’m not here with malicious intent, no. I’m her because you help save my soldiers and brought them back to me safe. I want to reward you for your bravery and heroism that’s all.” She slid papers over to Zayne.

“These papers here state that you are a knight and that squire of yours is part of this kingdom. These will state your name and level and your alignment as well, that being so we can identify if you’re criminals or saints. I want to finalize it for you but tell me first, did you kill sir Ogre and if not then who did.” The atmosphere had changed.
Zayne looked down at his friend thinking that it was probably better for him to deal with this stuff then him, but cause and effect and all that. He looked to the lady that he was sure was a mage. He signed -Yes, I killed him-.
She took it in for a moment as she thought, what was strange was she didn’t have any visible reaction that Zayne thought he would see.
“Maybe she’s a psycho?” Foulness stated.
“That maybe, but I wont hold it against you. Your too new to this world to know what was going on and judging that you don’t speak and sir Ogre doesn’t know thief’s cant. SO there was obviously a language barrier.” She took the papers and pulled them up to look them over.
She took out a glowing pen and pulled off her pendent. Flipping open her pendent she dabbed the pen in the liquid and waited for the unasked questions.
“I’m ready when you are.” She waited patiently.
Zayne kicked Chris mildly waking up the want to be squire. Chris looked around for a brief second then shot daggers at Zayne
“I said to stop doing that!” he shouted
Zayne didn’t respond to that little outburst. He calmly singed to Chris what was discussed while he was asleep. The wanna be squire took it than broke it across Zayne’s face.
“Dude! Why would you admit that?” He didn’t seem to care that there were others in the room.
The lady mage gave a light cough, “I just need to know your names and levels. Then you just haft to drop a small droplet of blood on your respected papers.” She said calmly.
Chris was sweating thinking about what that would mean to Zayne. “Do these alignments show what we have ever done?” he made a good point.
The mage looked at them for second then shook her head. “No unfortunately, but it will be updated after each action. The more good you do outweighs the sin you may make provided they don’t weigh tremendously.” She tapped the papers again. “Now names and levels.
Zayne stated that he was level twenty and his name. The mage looked at him funny for a second but turned to his friend. Chris was level 15, and that he had a few questions of his own but was dismissed. So, the two put few droplets onto the paper and the form was finished.
The mage handed them out, “Don’t lose these. It cost a lot of money to make anther and there are tracking spells on them so you can always find them. That was what hinted that you two were knew here, everyone knows that common tid bit. Now leave, I have some matters to go over with night captain Margellio.” She shewed them out.
Once they were alone, the mage looked back at Margellio. “Level twenty! I cant believe that he is one of the highest leveled people here besides the royal family. Do you know what this means? I couldn’t even look at his stats, and the presence that he exerts is unreal!” she was seething now as the fear showed on her face.
“He even killed sir Ogre, and he was the same level as that brute.” Margellio looked at her with a quirked eyebrow.
“And that’s why he had him join the kingdom roster? Are you trying to recruit that monster, don’t get me wrong I am appreciative for his help but do you really think it’s a good idea that we leave him alone?”
“Don’t be too worried, you said so you self that he was planning to join the jousting tournament. What better place to watch him then in front of the entire kingdom. That and we get a better look at what he can really do with that high level of his.” She hummed to her self for a second.
“This should be a good show this year” The smile was plastered across her face.
Zayne and Chris got directions to the tournament location so they could sign up for it. Chris was a little worried that they wouldn’t be able to make it intime but Zayne didn’t seem to concern. They walked through the city for about thirty minutes before they finally made it to the place. During that time Chris asked a few questions of Zayne, asking he knew how to ride a horse and if he ever did any jousting before. The answer was heart breaking, as it was a resounding no.
As they waited in line Chris couldn’t help but shout. “What do you mean you have never ridden a horse before. That’s like the most key component of jousting, are you a re-” He stopped himself before he finished that statement.
Zayne calmly looked at Chris and singed -How hard can it be?-.
