HE IS COMING!
The sound of David giving this warning before he is interrupted brought a wave of different emotions to the vampires in Belgrade, bafflement that one of their higher ranks was killed, mockery over David’s fate, sorrow for those who liked him.
All of these emotions were experience by Felicia with the addition of an unknown emotion: Fear.
While David was not the strongest vampire she ever met, she expected him to win, die in a fight or even run away, but the abrupt cutting of his message indicated that he was killed quickly in his bat form.
A dear friend of arms and pleasure was lost to her, she would have wept for him had she was not paralyzed by the two most important facts at this moment:
* The vampire hunter is mighty.
* He is coming.
This was horrible news to Felicia, as despite her greatest efforts the humans of Belgrade fought hard, but she managed to push them back, all was supposed to go well and now the vampire hunter will destroy all of that.
Maybe he will kill her? No! this thought is too much, she is much stronger and wiser than David, yet her legs were shaking, her wings were fluttering, and the beauty of her face was replaced with a pitiful horror.
“NO!”, she punched the ground so hard one would think a small earthquake came, which was unlikely as earthquakes are rare in Serbia.
Felicia had to device a plan, direct confrontation with the vampire hunter is dangerous and will surely end up in failure, she collected her thought to think, she really wanted to go to her collection of male slaves to think better, but there are times where such things are not appropriate and going there right now would remind her of David. Odd, she never felt sorrow for anyone other than herself, yet here she is feeling the loss of the only vampire she cared for after Dracula.
Felicia remembered to do something crucial, to warn the council of the dark lord of the upcoming danger, and do the one thing she dreaded to do, seeking advice from them.
She went to her cupboard and opened it to reveal multiple mirrors, she bit her hand with her sharpest fang and dropped the blood coming out of it onto the largest mirror at the center.
Dracula’s face appeared, he looked at her with a stern face.
“Felicia, I expected a report from you yesterday, what delayed you?”
“My lord, the humans have proven difficult to handle, they have learnt of our weakness.”
Dracula’s face surprisingly looked unconcerned.
“Perhaps they learnt from the traitors, or the scientists of the caliphate or the roman empire, I have dealt with humans who knew how to kill before, surely you could have handled it with ease?”
“Yes, my lord. However, a more dangerous threat came up, I was expecting David to inform me of the demise of that threat, only to be informed of David’s death, as such I called to warn you my lord.”
“I see.” Dracula nodded, “But I know David wasn’t a powerful vampire, what could possibly be so threatening that you would think you had to inform me?”
“A vampire hunter.”
Dracula’s face stiffened, he bit his hand and threw it to his sides, after a few moments the rest of the mirrors were reflecting the faces of the council of Dracula, all but two mirror, Argus’s, and David’s mirror.
“What is it my lord?” a cyclops with a blonde hair and green eyes said.
“Is it to inform us of Felicia’s failure?” A female vampire with glasses on her head, somewhat muscular arms, and dark robe.
“For your information Dawn, I am getting closer to fully crushing the rebellion!” Felicia retorted in anger.
“Please, keep your cat fights out of our discussion.” The Gorgon, a large green woman with a hair made out of cobras, and a Grecian armor.
“You can also be as catty Alexa.” A tall male vampire with an oddly twisted red mustache and black hair.
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
“ENOUGH!!!” Dracula shouted, a shout so loud it shook Felicia’s room, almost knocking the mirrors off her cupboard.
“This is no time to bicker, we have a crisis in our hand!”
The council feel silent, if the dark lord himself claims the presence of a crisis, then it must be something important.
“Felicia, tell them!”
Felicia nodded, then straightened herself, drawing her tall and curvy body, and as her long hair fell down, she said, “There is a new vampire hunter, and he is making his way to Belgrade.”
The vampires were shocked, some even shown terrified looks, yet the other races did not seem unphased.
“Ah, so there is someone who can hunt you, how scary. How does that affect us werewolves?” a human looking person with brown hair snarked, had his fangs not been long Felicia wouldn’t have recognized that he was one of those dogs.
“Both David and Argus are dead.” Felicia said.
“Before his death, David would send reports about what he found in his search for the vampire hunter, on his way he would tell me about the corpses of werewolves in our lookouts and outposts between here and Subotica.”
The werewolf’s face of indifference changed to a slight panic.
“So?” he said nervously, “Those werewolves were not strong, what does that have to do with Argus’s death?”
Felicia looked appalled.
“Don’t you get it you Simple-minded git??!! David informed me that the humans claim the vampire hunter killed Argus and did so with ease!”
The werewolves now shown great fear, simpering like a dog being scolded for their poor behavior.
“But as you call him, he is a vampire hunter!” Said another short white-haired cyclops. “Why would he go after werewolves?”
“He is a human Basil, why wouldn’t he want to kill werewolves?” Alister answered sarcastically.
“Vampire hunter is merely a title.” Dracula interjected before Basil can retort. “Back in the old days, vampire hunters were full of knowledge on how to dispose of the creatures of the night, it was ironic to watch sheep learn how to kill a lion, but their presence were a great danger to our group, many times we attempted to take what was rightfully ours and yet the vampire hunters would stop us.”
The counsel fell silent, this time all of them realized the danger they are in.
“Felicia, give us all you know, we need to deal with this threat as soon as possible.” Alister said.
Felicia at any other time would have sneered at Alister and told him that she only answer to the dark lord, yet this time she nodded.
“From what David informed me, the vampire hunter is going around teaching the humans our weaknesses, in fact that is how I came to deal with the rebellion here in Belgrade.”
Felicia took another breath and continued.
“From the reports he gave me, Argus’s body had markings of a rope with stab wounds within them, as well as a knife inside his mouth.”
Dracula and Dawn looked at each other through their respective mirrors, Dawn then spoke, “I thought we destroyed all knowledge of this weaponry when we destroyed the vampire hunters’ base.”
“It seems that one hunter must have survived” Dracula pondered, “or perhaps the burning of their library did not destroy all their knowledge, or maybe an ancient relic was dug up, or all of those combined.”
“I am sorry, what is this about?” the first werewolf, feeling a bit agitated from being lost.
“The hybrid metal” Dawn retorted.
“The what?”
“The hybrid metal Adolf! A combination of all methods of killing both monster and man combined into one weapon.”
“So, are you saying that this ‘vampire hunter’ holds a weapon that can even penetrate argus’s skin?” Alexa asked.
“It penetrated his skin enough to sever his head.” Felicia interjected.
“It is expected that you would know a thing or two about penetration, Felicia.” Dawn said sarcastically.
A chorus of laughter filled the room, shaking the cupboard, while Felicia and Dracula’s unsmiling faces reflected in their mirrors.
“Yes, I do know, because Argus’s body was found to have been stabbed from the inside by a silver knife, meaning that was what killed him.”
“I see.” Alister said, “if that is the case then this vampire hunter has enough knowledge and understanding about our abilities, he probably wasn’t just some random person who stumbled upon a forgotten artifact.”
“And how does that help us Alister?” The blonde cyclops said.
“Know your enemy if you wish to defeat them.” Dracula responded, “We were thorough in our destruction of the vampire hunters, for this new one to know much would indicate that either he studied us from the words of traitors, or that he is a last member of the hunters.”
“I suggest the former my lord, David’s reports informed me that he was young, in his 20s or 30s.” Felicia informed.
“If that is the case then the only possible way, I would believe a new vampire hunter was born, is that if he was taught not by traitors, but by learning it from the source.”
“What does that mean my lord?” Alister asked.
“It means that there may be more than one vampire hunter!”
The council was shocked! It made sense, rebellions popping up in two places at once, argus’s death coinciding with more rebellions in the east, there was more than one hunter.
“Adolf! You and one of your companions will go to Belgrade immediately, give all the reinforcements you can spare to Felicia.” Dracula ordered the brown-haired werewolf, who bowed obeying and disappeared from his mirror, along with the werewolves alongside him.
“Dawn! It seems you will have to resurrect your research into hybrid metal, seek to develop a powerful armor against it.”
“At once my lord” Dawn’s mirror went back to a normal mirror.
“The rest of you! Reinforce your positions! Be wary of humans, survey them if you must, trust no one but your allies! And if you find one of the vampire hunters, do not engage them immediately, call for reinforcement, for we only won against them using large numbers.”
The council and Felicia bowed, and all of them disappeared from their mirrors one by one.
