“A man, with resolve of stone
Shall depose the evil on a corrupt throne
In its lair, evil will be struck dead
Return in glory, the hero with its head.”
I studied the prophecy for most of my life. It was why I joined the seminary. Prophecies have so many possible interpretations, it can take a lifetime to understand fully. By the time its meaning revealed itself to me, all became clear.
A heretic sect of The Faith had gained influence as I made my way through the ranks of the church. With the location of their main temple and my ascension to rank of Sanctus Equite, I led the Warriors of the Holy Truth to the evil lair. We fell upon them as a wave crashing to shore. When it was over, I claimed the head of their leader, removing him from his throne of lies.

Showered with praise upon my return, I was pronounced as “God’s Chosen.” Within a matter of years, I was elevated to the highest office of The Faith. I had fulfilled the prophecy and upheld my oaths. I crushed the dissent of heretic sects and restored peace through fear of God.
Now I sit here on my throne, using what could be my last moments, writing this on the arm of my office’s throne to preserve my story. The heretics, that I took pride in eradicating, have stormed my palace. The heathen fools proclaim that I, of all people, am the evil on a corrupt throne, oppressing the people with fear and judgement. They pledge to strike my dead in this very office and cut the head from my shoulders.
