Chapter 2: Curiosity From the Cat

“Why not? Parties are fun…” Mary whined.

“They’re fun for extroverts maybe, but introverts on the other hand not so much,” Shizuka responded, scrolling through other people’s books as a notification popped up.

You Have a Message From b0hemian

Shizuka smiled. She loved b0hemian’s art. Mary looked from the screen to Shizuka.

“Ooh? Somebody got a boyfriend~,” she teased.

“Eugh,” Shizuka imitated one of the many disgusted cat memes. “What in the world made you get that idea?”

“One, the way you smiled. And two, the way you’re denying it,” Mary said with a playful smile.

“One, I don’t even know the dude. And two, I smiled 'cause I’m confident in what it is,” Shizuka imitated Mary’s justification.

“Mhm, yeah okay,” Mary said disbelievingly.

Shizuka eyed her golden-haired friend but chose not to comment. She pulled up the image that was sent. It was a beautifully sketched girl, her hair cascading down her shoulders like a waterfall. Ears pointed with black studs and round earrings lining them, eyes resting on something unknown. Shizuka recognized it immediately, Evernour, a character from one of her many fantasy stories.

“Wow, that’s good!” Mary commented, “why isn’t it colored though? It would look better colored.”

Mary had a point, Shizuka started typing.

Good drawing, as per usual. Just curious, why do you never color your art? It’s fine if you don’t want to answer.

Click. Shizuka sent the message wordlessly.

. . .

voosh.

“I kinda want to explore the dorm building,” Eric stretched out on the couch after sending his text.

“That’s new coming from Mr. ‘I-was-absent-‘cause-school-is-boring.’” Adam remarked, absent-mindedly popping an ice cream bar into his mouth.

“That’s different Mr. ‘I-only-act-like-a-jock-in-public-because-liking-and-doing-art-as-a-boy-is-weird.’” Eric poked.

Adam didn’t reply, only gave Eric the “uh-wow” look. Sure he did act like a jock boy around the majority of unfamiliar people for that reason (and the fact that he can pull it off), but he really didn’t have to bring that up.

bzzt.

Eric leaned over towards Adam’s laptop.

You Have a Message From StorytellerShiba

Adam walked over as Eric pulled up the message. Shoving the ash brown waves of Eric out of his view of the screen.

I could try but I don’t have the right stuff to make it look as good as I'd want it to.

Adam types as Eric reads it over his shoulder. He turned away as he started to hum an unfamiliar tune as he pulled up a channel on the TV screen.

voosh.

As Adam finished the message he looked up to see what his glasses-wearing confidant was putting on.
