The introduction assembly was inside the academy’s grand hall. Standing behind the podium stood a handsome green haired elf in a suit. With a graceful smile on his face the elf addressed the crowd. “Students from afar I welcome you all to the academy of Mato. My name is Arhel Beldroth your student council president. Today we’ll be handing out your academy ID badges.” After pointing to a lightning covered sword badge on his suit Arhel addressed the crowd once more. “They will serve as proof of your acceptance in the academy, anyone found not wearing one will be directly expelled!”
After sitting through Arhel’s induction speech, the students were finally given their ID badges and class itineraries before being sent to their first lesson.
Walking out of the grand hall Daelos found himself separated from the rest of the first year elven students. Looking over his itinerary he followed the small map and headed towards the staircase.
Before he knew it, he’d arrived at the second-floor hallway and started walking to the classroom mentioned on the itinerary. Seeing his classroom door a small bit of hesitation stopped him from opening it.
“What are you doing?”
“Huh!” looking behind him Daelos found a green eyed elven girl looking at him in a peculiar manner.
Seeing the dumbfounded look on the guy’s face, the elven girl started to get irritated. Is this idiot gonna move out the way? “Move” pushing him out the way the girl entered the classroom leaving Daelos behind.
Seeing the girl about to leave him alone in the hallway, Daelos hurried in after her.
When he entered he saw that there were about 6 people already sitting down, 3 boys and 3 girls including the girl who entered before him. Besides her everyone else gazed at him in wonder.
Daelos figured it was probably due to the fact that he was the only human in the class.
Finding an empty seat he decided to ignore the gazes of his classmates and talk to Lyla.
“Hey Lyla, I’ve been wondering for a while but when can I start learning how to use mental energy?”
“You want to learn to use mental energy?”
“Didn’t you say it was needed if I wanted to use the ring of torment?”
“Yeah but you’ve never asked me about it.”
“That’s because you only ever taught me the basics of the law of fire!”
“Now that you mention it that does seem to be the case. But if you’d mentioned it earlier we could have started right after we left Halthor.”
“WHAT! We could have started that long ago! I got my ass kicked at the examination because I couldn’t use the law of fire properly and your telling me that you could have taught me mental energy beforehand!!”
“Pretty much.”
This Woman!!
Not willing to get into an argument with her, Daelos tried to cool his and keep things civil.
“Can we start right now?”
“We could but it’ll leave you mentally drained and you won’t be able to concentrate in class.”
“Yeah but isn’t that why I have you.”
“Excuse me?”
“I mean you remember just about everything we come across, so instead of listening in class I can focus on training my mental and vibrational energy while you focus on increasing your knowledge and then you can catch me up on it when I’m done.”
“…”
“Lyla?”
“…”
“Lyla can you hear me? You’ve gone quiet?” Looking down at his necklace Daelos tapped the Agnos Requiem. I wonder if it’s broken?

Before carrying on his thoughts the sound of a door opening pulled his attention elsewhere.
A beautiful lady walked into the classroom and walked over to the front of the blackboard and wrote her name on the board in chalk.
Kira
Looking over the students, her eyes paused when she saw Daelos staring at her with a bewildered expression. Seeing the look on his face caused her to smile, making every boy in the class besides Daelos blush.
With her usual gentle smile Kira started to address the classroom full of students. Hello everyone, my name is Kira and for the next 5 years I’ll be your teacher. Since this is my first time meeting you all I’d like you to stand up, say your name, age, elemental affinity and something interesting about you.”
Nodding as if to confirm her words the students started to prepare themselves. Looking at a blue haired elf sitting at the front of the class, Kira pointed at him indicating for him to start.
“My name is Altun Prefa, I’m 209 this year, my elemental affinity is water and I’m interested in water based healing techniques.”
Sitting next to the blue haired elf was a green haired girl in a ranger outfit. “My name is Hera Jourgon, I’m 205 this year, my elemental affinity is air and I’m interested in reading.”
My name is Daisha Raelstrum, I’m 208 this year, I don’t have an elemental affinity but my talent in the law of light is pretty high. I’m also interested in anything to do with nature.”
Most of the class introductions were boring and held little importance in Daelos’s eyes. Only when it became the green eyed girl’s turn did he show the slightest bit of interest.
“My name’s Rhina Ellwood. I’ve just turned 200 this year, my elemental affinity is fire and I’m only interested in defeating you!” Looking at Kira with provocation, everyone in the class could feel her battle intent flaring up.
Ignoring the obvious challenge, Kira’s eyes focused on Daelos now that it was his turn.
Seeing her refuse to take her seriously and instead stare at some weak looking human, Rhina couldn’t help but clench her fist and stare daggers at him.
Why is she getting angry at me?
Feeling the ominous aura coming from Rhina, Daelos decided that someone this irrational wasn’t worth his time. “My name is Daelos Barrigan, I think I should be around 20, I don’t know what my elemental affinity is, and my only interest is to become strong enough to protect myself and things I find valuable.”
Hearing the last part of his speech, Kira’s eyes were practically shinning.
Seriously? Do I only attract the crazies!
After refocusing her mind, she realised that she was the teacher and she actually had a job to do. “Now that the introductions are out of the way we’ll get on with today’s lesson. According to the itinerary I’m supposed to teach you about the 3 different combat classes and fighting preferred fighting styles.”
Looking over the class, she pointed to one of the students that Daelos forgot the name of and spoke in a bored manner unfit for a teacher. “Explain the three combat classes and the difference between them.”
“The three combat classes include Knights, mages and mage knights. Unlike mages and mage knights that use the universal laws, knights instead use a power known as energy which they draw from their own bodies. After the war with the invaders, research on the mysterious force that was used to combat our understandings of laws begun. Over the centuries breakthroughs were made and eventually we were able to replicate their abilities. Although we could replicate the force that they used, most people were either unable to use the power to its full potential or their bodies weren’t able to handle it. On record only Beast-men and some humans have been able to use this power to its full potential.”
Finishing her explanation the female student sat down looking smug.
“Well that was boring.” Breaking the girl’s young spirit, Kira sat back up. “Three months from now we’ll be holding a class assessment. During that time you are free to do whatever you want. Read, fight, sleep, as long as you show up for the assessment anything goes.”
Waving her hand frivolously she dismissed that class. “Daelos stay behind.”
Watching the members of his class leave, Daelos felt nervous being left alone with Kira.
She won’t try to force me into anything will she?
Once the last student left Kira dropped her teacher like behaviour and reverted back into carefree self. “Were you surprised.”
“With you being the teacher?”
“Yep.”
“Well yeah. I didn’t think you looked that much older than me, I guess you must use some amazing face cream.”
“How rude!, I’ll have you know I’m only 24.”
Feeling like this was getting him nowhere, Daelos decided to just ask the question on his mind. “Why are you so interested in me?”
Smiling to herself, Kira closed the distance between the two until she was only a couple of centimetres away from his face. “It’s because of your eyes.”
“My eyes?”
“Yeah, I’ve never seen another human within golden eyes before. I thought they were pretty.”
“Is that it?” This woman is not right in the head.
“Well there’s also the matter of you beating a noble despite your lacklustre skills.”
“…” Didn’t I lose?
“Don’t look so grim. If anything you should be singing a song of praise!”
Feeling confused by that last statement, Daelos backed away from Kira as he felt they were way to close. “Why would I be doing that?”
“Because for the next 3 months I’ll be giving you some personal training.”
“I refuse!” Not waiting for the conversation to be derailed any further, Daelos flat out rejected her proposal.
“You can’t, teacher’s orders.”
“Isn’t this just abusing your authority?”
“Since we have an entire day lets start with learning your elemental affinity!”
Did she just ignore me again?
Grabbing him by the hand, Kira pulled him out of the class room and headed towards the marketplace.
After buying a crystal ball, she dragged Daelos onto the island with the library on it.
