Chapter 99: The Colossus Falls

Chapter 99: The Colossus Falls

The Colossus moved with terrifying speed for its size, its axes cleaving through the battlefield. Soldiers scattered as the beast advanced toward the city walls.

“Focus on the joints!” Damien shouted, activating Astral Slash. The twin energy waves struck the Colossus’s knees, forcing it to stumble.

Roland charged in, slamming his shield against one of the beast’s legs. “Come on, you oversized brute!” he roared, drawing its attention.

Lyra darted beneath its massive frame, her blades striking at the vulnerable armor around its ankles. Cassian climbed to a higher vantage point, firing a series of explosive arrows at its head.

The Colossus roared in frustration, swinging one of its axes toward Damien. He blinked away with Phase Step, reappearing behind the beast and delivering a powerful Void Cleave to its back.

“We’re wearing it down!” Lyra shouted, dodging another swing. “Keep it up!”

The Colossus staggered, its movements growing sluggish as the team’s relentless assault took its toll. Damien saw his opening and called out, “Roland, Lyra, pin it down!”

The two warriors moved in tandem. Roland braced his shield against the Colossus’s left leg, while Lyra slashed at its right, forcing it to its knees.

Damien raised Ebonfang, channeling every ounce of celestial energy into the blade. “This is for Valdris!” he cried, unleashing a devastating Radiant Surge.

The energy strike pierced the Colossus’s core, and with a final, ear-splitting roar, the beast collapsed. Its massive form crumbled into mist, and the battlefield fell silent.

AFTERMATH OF THE SIEGE

With the Colossus defeated, the enemy forces broke and scattered. The soldiers of Valdris cheered as the remaining Rift creatures were hunted down and destroyed.

Damien and his team stood atop the ruined battlefield, their breaths heavy but their spirits unbroken. They had faced overwhelming odds and emerged victorious once more.

Roland clapped Damien on the back. “We did it. The city is safe.”

Cassian nodded, his bow still in hand. “For now.”

Lyra sheathed her blades, her expression serious. “But this was only the beginning. Whatever’s coming next… it’ll be worse.”

Damien looked toward the horizon, where the remnants of the Rift energy faded into the distance. “Then we’ll be ready.”

The battle for Valdris had been won, but the war for their world was far from over.
