Returning to Valdris, Damien and Cassian brought the shattered remains of the obelisk to Eryndor’s study. The mage examined the fragments with a mixture of awe and dread.
“This is ancient,” Eryndor said, his voice hushed. “Older than the Rifts themselves. These artifacts... they were once part of a larger network.”
Damien leaned against the table, his mind racing. “What do you mean?”
Eryndor gestured to the runes. “These symbols predate recorded history. They were part of a system used to channel and control immense power. The Rifts are not random—they are being opened intentionally, using these obelisks.”
Cassian crossed his arms. “So, they’re tools of war.”
“Precisely,” Eryndor said. “And whoever controls them is using them to weaken our world.”
Damien clenched his fists. “Then we need to find the rest and destroy them.”
Eryndor nodded. “Agreed. But be warned—each obelisk will be more heavily guarded than the last.”

A COUNCIL OF WAR
That evening, the Council of Four convened in the Citadel’s war room. Damien presented their findings, laying the obelisk fragments on the table.

“This is what we’re up against,” he said. “These obelisks are the key to their power. If we can destroy them, we can disrupt their plans.”
Morganna studied the fragments, her expression grave. “This confirms our worst fears. The Rifts are part of a larger design.”
Garrick slammed his fist on the table. “Then we destroy every last one of them.”
Lyanna nodded. “But we must proceed carefully. Each mission will grow more dangerous.”
Alaric turned to Damien, his eyes filled with determination. “You’ve proven your strength, but this will test you beyond anything you’ve faced. Are you ready?”
Damien met his father’s gaze. “We’ll do whatever it takes.”

THE ROAD AHEAD
As the council adjourned, Damien and his team gathered in the Citadel’s armory. They prepared their weapons and gear, each member steeling themselves for the battles ahead.
Lyra, now returned from the southern front, approached Damien. “I heard about the obelisk. What’s our next move?”
Damien tightened the straps on his armor. “We’re going after the next one. And we won’t stop until they’re all destroyed.”
Roland grinned, his shield slung over his back. “Sounds like a plan.”
Cassian adjusted his quiver. “Let’s hope the enemy isn’t planning something worse.”
Damien looked at his team, pride and determination in his eyes. “They’ll throw everything they have at us. But we’ll be ready.”
With their mission clear and their resolve unshaken, the team set out once more, ready to face the darkness head-on. The battle for their world had only just begun, but they would fight with every ounce of strength they had.
And they would not stop until the Rifts were sealed forever.
