I regained consciousness and found myself in an alley. It was night time but not that dark. The moon was full and its light alluminated the surroundings but there was nothing mentionable in particular. Only mentionable stuff was me, or more like, the stuff ON me. I had a transmitter in my right ear, a bag on my shoulders, and a long katana on my left hip. I was wearing tight black clothes and a belt with pockets. I took out the katana.
"Beautiful"
I couldn't help but admire its beauty. It seemed to be dancing in the moonlight as I moved it. Its balance was perfect, that, even an amateur like me could tell. I held it and made a few strikes into the thin air. It felt so light, yet so strong, as if it could cut though steel but I dared not try, for the fear that its awesome power might overwhelm me. I carefully sheathed it after I had practiced a few times.
"I will now brief you on your mission."
Suddenly, a voice came from the transmitter. It was a female monotone voice.
"You have a map in your bagpack. On it, is marked the location of the building where the hostages are held captive. Your objective is to rescue those hostages using any means necessary. Good luck."
(Huh.. That's it? No backstory?)
"Haah.. So much for briefing me on the mission." I heaved a sigh and emptied out my bagpack.
It had a flashlight, a pistol, a silencer, 3 cartridges, 5 hand grenades, a first aid kit and finally the map. I first turned on the flashlight and checked the map. It had my current location marked as well as the path I needed to take to get to the hostages. It seemed like it was about 2 blocks away but since I didn't have too much experience reading a map, I couldn't be sure. The next thing I did was take a look at the first aid kit. I know how to use a first aid kit, so I shouldn't have much problems, thinking that, I put the first aid kit back into the backpack. Lastly, I checked out the weopens. I had never touched the stuff in real life but had seen enough movies to know how it was supposed to be used. The pistol was heavier than I expected. I tried putting on the silencer and shot a few rounds at the nearby dumpster.
(They make it look so easy in the movies.)
I removed the silencer and stuffed it with the pistol into the bag along with the extra cartridges. Finally, I put one of the hand grenades into my belt pocket and the rest in my bagpack. I wasn't stupid enough to try and test-use a hand grenade.
Now that I was all set I decided to move on to my objective. After taking a few deep breaths, I started towards the building where the hostages were, according to the map. In a few minutes I was in front of my destination.
(That was easy.)
It was just 5 minutes away and I reached in 3, by jogging. But now came the hard part. The lights here were turned on and I could see 5 men patrolling in front of the building. Even in the building a few lights were on, here and there but unforunately that wasn't enough to estimate the number of enemies.
(But if what Yuko said was true, then maybe I can gain the upper hand.)
I remembered that Yuko mentioned this place was modeled after our school. I knew our school building like the back of my hand, so I circled around it to find the rear entrance.
(Damn it.)
The rear entrance had 2 people guarding it. I was naive to think that these guys would just leave it unmanned. I took out out the pistol and put on the silencer. Next, I put the extra cartridges and 2 more grenades in my belt and got ready for combat. I left my bag behind and moved closer to the gaurds as quietly as possible. Thankfully this place was darker than the front due to having only one small bulb as the source of light. I revised my plan which I had thought up on my way here.
(I need to finish this as quietly as possible. Thus, using hand grenades is out of the question unless I'm stuck in a tricky situation. The enemy is holding rifles so I need to finish them before they have a chance to use it or else, it would alert the others.)
Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
I took out the pistol from an unsafe distance. I knew if I missed, it would be the end. I aimed properly at one of them and breathed deeply. Suddenly, there was movement among the guards. One of the guards got up and said something to the other and went inside.
(Phew. This makes it easier.)
I quickly aimed the gun at the remaining guard, fearing the other might return. And shot it...
"Aaaarghh!"
It hit the guy's leg. I aimed at his head!
(Damn it!)
I quickly tried to make the second shot but the other guard returned.
"What happened?"
He saw his comrade shot in the leg and went full on alert.
"To shoot with such accuracy, you must be a professional. Here to rescue the hostages? Not a chance, no matter how experienced you are. We got 50 guys in here." He said examining at his comrade's wound while still being on alert.
Then, he grabbed his comrade and dragged him inside while I was still hesitating on what to do.
(Its too dangerous to stay here now. They'll definitely come after me in groups. And what the hell was he talking about 'accuracy' and 'professional'? I tried to shoot him in the head, his freaking head, I tell ya!!)
I ran away from there, making sure no one was following me. And when I was finally at a distance I could feel safe, I remembered what my brain was instinctively trying to deny.
"50 guys!? Are you shitting me!? How the hell am I supposed to kill 50 guys when I couldn't even shoot one of them properly!?"
I had the urge to throw all my grenades inside the building randomly. But I took a deep breath again to avert my panic.
"This is way too hard for me. I guess I'd better go back."
............
(Wait. How am I supposed to go back?)
"Crap."
I tried to think of something and came up with two options- die or win.
(But what if I don't get out even after dying? Don't tell me I have to finish this no matter what.)
"I feel like crying."
(Wait, wait wait! Why am I so scared? This is just a game! Its not like everything will end after I die here. Even if I get out of here or respawn, its a win-win situation for me either way, isn't it?)
I suddenly found my lost determination and readied the pistol.
"Haha! I'm coming for you, bad guys!"
This time I went to the front gate with a haughty attitude but surprisingly there was no one there. Taking heed of my surroundings, I went up to the front gate but it was locked. I remembered it from the movies, so I shot a few round at the lock of the door and it opened. And as it opened,
(Shit.)
There were 7 people waiting with their guns ready. As they started shooting I instinctively jumped to the side but I still got 2 bullets stuck in my stomach.
(Fuck, it hurts! Aaaaahhhhh!!)
I had the urge to scream but I controlled myself and made a note to myself to unleash all my anger at Yuko who said its like being hit a "toy hammer".
After a while, the guys stopped shooting and waited for me to make the next move. They were sure I wasn't dead. In terrible pain, I suddenly had an inspiration. I took out 2 grenades from my belt with trembling hands. I could feel my body had started to stop listening to me. I somehow managed to take the pin out of the grenade and made an effort to throw the grenade in.
"Shit. Its a grenade!"
"Run!"
I barely managed to throw the grenade but I knew it worked. But I wasn't done there I took the pin out of the second grenade but before I could throw it, the first grenade exploded.
*boom*
"Aaaaaaaaahhhhhh..."
"Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh"
There were some horrifying screams. I could sense the earth trembling but my body couldn't feel it anymore. Then I looked at the second grenade at my hand.
"Haha.. I guess I can't deny I had fun."
Those were my last words.
