Chapter 15 - Martial Art

Chapter 15 - Martial Art

A few days later and plenty of annoying chats with his new friends, Fang Xiong was finally out of the bed.

And he'd never felt better.

His body felt immensely stronger like it was many times more durable and filled with boundless energy. Fang Xiong wasn't sure by how much he'd improved but he could safely say it was definitely an increase of 3000kg or even slightly above that.

He didn't quite understand how his strength had increased but he did know it was mainly because of his unique physique and the beating he'd recently received.

He first found out about this in the early days of sparring with his Master.

When his Master used to beat the shit out of him to instill the basic moves in his body, Fang Xiong would find himself much stronger after healing from his injuries.

He'd told his Master who looked at his body with his Ki a few times before not coming up with anything, so they were both left stumped.

They even did training whic beat Fang Xiong within an inch of death by exhaustion and messed the increases.

But the boost had never been as big as it was now, and Fang Xiong marked that down as his Master had never hurt him, or pushed him, as much as Xiao Mei and therefore the boost was much bigger this time.

Thinking about this, Fang Xiong felt a hollow pain in his chest and wondered how he was going to explain this to his father and to his Master.

He felt like his pride had been stamped down completely and anger started to build-up in his chest.

To supress the anger, he quickly started to distract himself by removing the bandages all over his body before getting dressed.

While he was ripping the bandages off of himself, the door to the infirmary opened and Freya walked in. Seeing Fang Xiong practically naked, she was about to apologize but when she saw he didn't seem to care, she dropped it and said what she came to say, "You're fully healed now, even quicker than I predicted. So are you ready to start training under me?" Freya calmly looked at Fang Xiong who was now getting dressed.

"Yes, I'm ready," Fang Xiong just seemed to want to get it over with, so he quickly put on the loose-fitting trousers he'd asked them to bring and walked over to Freya.

Freya looked weirdly at Fang Xiong who didn't put a shirt on, "You're not going to put anything else on?" to her question, Fang Xiong just grunted and walked toward the door. She shrugged her shoulders as if to say 'if he doesn't mind, neither do I' before she followed after him.

She quickly overtook him and started leading him toward her own personal training ground.

On the way, not much was spoken between them as Fang Xiong still seemed to be thinking about stuff from multiple days from before. He was so deep in thought he could only concentrate on following Freya and didn't see the multiple people standing around and watching him while gossiping.

"Hey look, isn't that the guy who got beaten around by Xiao Mei?" "How's he walking about this soon? He was beaten half to death 3 days ago and now he's up and walking around like it never happened..." "Why's he walking around without a shirt on...?"

He didn't seem to hear anything and Freya was glad he didn't. Mainly because it seemed like what happened a few days ago seemed to awaken some pretty bad anger issues in himself and he probably wouldn't take too well to people gossiping about him.

Fang Xiong continued to catch the attention of the people around them but he continued not knowing he was going so and before he knew it, they arrived at Freya's private training grounds.

They entered the grounds and Fang Xiong came to a stop when Freya did. Purely on habit from his Master, Fang Xiong sat down and looked up at Freya, waiting for her to start speaking.

Freya looked confusedly at Fang Xiong but just went with it and started speaking, "Okay, let's get started," after she said this she grabbed two books out of her spatial ring and threw them onto Fang Xiong's lap, "Read these."

Fang Xiong did as he was told and read through the first book. It was named Tian Empire Martial Arts: Blood Style. He glanced at the other books title and saw it had a similar title, it was named Tian Empire Martial Arts: Storm Style.

Seeing they were martial art books, Fang Xiong started reading the first book he looked at with a renewed vigor that seemed completely different compared to his catatonic-like behavior from the previous days.

Seeing his vigor, Freya mentally let out a sigh. She was worried he'd lose all motivation over one fight and would never be the warrior she thought he was. But those worries were unneeded, as the fight only further deepened Fang Xiong's need for power.

Fang Xiong read through the red book. Its pages were red and the writing was solid black which made it slightly hard to look at but Fang Xiong's enthusiasm allowed him to easily ignore this.

Through reading the first few pages, he saw what the Blood Style was all about.

Apparently, it was an off-branch of the Water Style and was made to have the best of the Water Style while improving its lethal applications and its ability to kill. While the Water Style was calm and soft, the Blood Style was relentless and ferocious making for quite the contrast.

Flicking through the next few pages, Fang Xiong gained a bit more information on the other Styles of the Tian Empire. There were three other main Styles: Fire, Earth, and Air. They each had their own variants but Water was the only one with two. One of them being Blood and the other being Ice.

Fang Xiong looked interestingly at the other stances, wanting to know their strengths but the pages were vague and instead went on and on about the Blood Styles advantages.

So that's what Fang Xiong ended up reading in the end. He read about how the Blood Style was mainly complimented by a practitioner with high stamina and resulted in some kind of unstoppable killer, their strikes being both flexible and hard, and their movements being silent and quick.

Going to the next pages, enthralled by the information, Fang Xiong saw a few stances labeled under the title "Beginner Stances". Each Stance looked weird to Fang Xiong like they were constantly in motion despite them being pictures.

"Both flexible and hard..." Fang Xiong whispered as he looked at them, Freya off to the side saw Fang Xiong's understanding and knew he could see what she wanted him to see.

"That's good! Now, quickly, look at the other book's stances!" Freya seemed impatient for him to see something so she heavily urged him on. Fang Xiong did what she wanted and quickly flicked through the Storm Style book and reached the stances.

Each stance looked similar to the Blood Style's stances; constantly in between motion and standing still. But the only difference was that the Storm Stances looked packed full of explosive power and lacked flexibility but the potential power and speed made up for this disadvantage.

Anyway, seeing the constant motion in the Storm stances and thinking about the Blood stances, he couldn't help but think they held similar advantages while also making up for some of each other's disabilities.

Suddenly, an image sprung up in his mind, it was a vague outline of a man but he was surrounded by an army. He continued walking, slowly, calmly. Like he didn't know an army was blocking his way. Or that he didn't care that there was.

Around the man, a blood red wind started rotating around him and the army seemed to recoil backward. Fang Xiong was shocked by this. Wasn't it just a bit of wind? Why was an entire army scared of it?

But his questions were answered quite soon.

Some infantry in the army seemed to break under the pressure and rushed at him with their weapons raised. The man seemed to be surprised and simply moved forward a bit quicker than before. But he didn't just get quicker, he disappeared and appeared in front of the infantrymen charging him.

He raised his fist and struck out at them and they were simply torn apart. Like wet paper, their bodies were torn apart by the wind pressure from his punch alone, no contact was made.

The wind and red color surrounding the man seemed to intensify as he prepared himself to fight.

But to Fang Xiong's eyes, he didn't see a man anymore, he just saw a Storm of Blood.

Suddenly, he was thrown out of the image and recoiled backward, the image of the man's aura burned into his brain. He couldn't keep his eyes from widening and his heart beating quickly increasing drastically. Fang Xiong just couldn't believe people could get this strong.

Some people could say what he saw was an illusion, but Fang Xiong knew it was real. He didn't know where it was from but he trusted his instincts and they screamed that whatever he saw was real and attainable.

Not giving him any time to recover, Freya rushed in front of him, her face weirdly close to his and the manic smile on her face only made the situation odder, "You saw it didn't you?! The man with the Storm of Blood surrounding him, right?!"

Fang Xiong could only dumbly nod his head, to which Freya backed away and started boisterously laughing, "Hahahaha! I've finally found someone I can teach our Martial Art too, Master!" she continued laughing for a while longer.

To do something during the meanwhile, Fang Xiong picked up the Storm Style book and read through its introduction.

It was mainly complimented by natural high strength and therefore explosive power and resulted in a person who was akin to a walking storm in combat; unpredictable, wild and indomitable.

Like said before, while the Blood Style focuses on being flexible and hard at the same time while attacking from any direction at the vitals of the opponent, with relentless ferocity to take them out, the Storm Style focuses on high-tempo, explosive attacks coming from unpredictable angles aiming to crush the defenses of, and then, the opponent. The Blood Style lacks massive amounts of damage and the Storm Style lacks large amounts of stamina and the ability of prolonged usage, but together they covered each other's weaknesses incredibly well.

While Fang Xiong was reviewing this information, Freya had finally stopped madly cackling to herself and stared intently at Fang Xiong, waiting for him to stop looking at the book.

It didn't take long for this to happen and he quickly looked up at her, wondering what he had to do next.

"Well, now that I know you have the talent to see the connections, I can teach you the mixed style that my Master made," she took out another book. It was a dark blue with bright red writing on it, "Do you wish to join this school of martial arts, Fang Xiong?"

Seeing the way to a power similar to the man in the images he saw in his head, Fang Xiong quickly nodded his head, his eyes lit up with voracity.

Freya beamed him a smile, her eyes filled with equal amounts of eagerness and enthusiasm to his, "Then welcome to the Blood Tempest Style~!"
