Saer Servitude
Chapter 91

Chapter 91

Saer felt a hand patting on his cheek. At first they were mild contacts but it didn’t take long for them to turn into slaps which resounded inside his head.

“Saer!” Eryne’s voice penetrated his ears but Saer was too sedated to move his lips, let alone creating a vocal vibration. He made efforts to move his muscles. As a result his lips twitched.

Doctor Eryne relieved her long held breath. She put her hand on Saer’s hand and said, “Hold my hand if you can hear me.”

Saer put a soft grip on her hand.

“I thought your body rejected Wernh’An’s eye. You were screaming for last few days.”

Now Saer had a reason why he wasn’t feeling comfortable to talk.

“Does it hurt? New eye?” she asked the blindfolded cut-throat.

“Not much.” Saer whispered.

Doctor Eryne left his hand and assisted Saer to sit upright. Saer leaned on wall after finding a comfortable position. He could hear the scissor clicking several times.

“Stay still. I am about to cut this ting off your eyes.” She put the scissor near his ear. Saer’s head slipped from the wall before she could make a cut.

“Don’t move.” She said as the scissor bit the bandage.

“Will I be able to see?” Saer asked, not recognizing his own voice.

“Yes. I haven’t touched your other eye.”

“I mean through Wernh’An’s eyes.”

“Time will tell.”

“You’re not sure then?” Saer said.

“The eye has been accepted by your body. You may be able to see Calajhans. But when? I doubt.” She unwrapped the dressing till she exposed his eyes.

Saer blinked and kept on blinking because of irritation in his eyes. Some strands of the bandage were still on his pupils. Tears washed it away after his eyes came in contact of air.

Eryne moved her hands infront of Saer’s eyes. She watched his eyeballs follow its movement.

“Excellent.” She admired her work, “Close your right eye and look from the left.”

Saer cupped his right eye.

“No different.” Saer said, “How will I see Calajhans’ unknown enemy like this?”

“I don’t think Wernh’An himself would see it.”

“You know something about that enemy?” Saer removed hand from his eye.

“I had heard about it in the institute.”

“What did you hear?”

“The enemy is thought to be omnipresent.” She whispered like walls would hear their conversation.

“Do the Maesters of institute…err...school, know what the enemy is?”

“Maesters who had taught me knew about it. But they’re all dead.”

“The enemy did it?”

“No.” she dropped the mop, “The Maesters were just too old.”

She crouched to pick the result of her temper tantrum soon after. Then she was back to her regular business.

“Roher told me you were the best student from the school.”

“Is this what he suggested you to say for flattering me?” she narrowed her eyes.

“No. Believe it or not but he said it.”

“Lift your feet.” She said.

Saer lifted his feet as the old woman scrubbing area under the bed.

“Don’t Maesters pass secret information to their best students here?” Saer asked her.

“First of all, I was not the best student in the academy. I was a dropout.” She sighed, “Maybe they told something about this to Rudolph.”

“Who is he?”

“He was a senior to be by two batches and was the best student Maesters had seen in decades. He now teaches in the institute.”

“Where can I find him?”
