026 - Bloody Harvest (01)

Kellan and Lyra emerged from their hiding place and approached the weakened beasts.

They stealthily approached the creatures because Kellan and Lyra were aware of their critical condition and latent strength.

Even near death, the monsters demonstrated a surprising vitality that allowed them to survive in the most desperate situations. Their ability to rest and utilize their energy efficiently was a key element of this resilience.

As they evolved, monsters of rank E and beyond generally did not feel the need to feed daily. Their organisms became increasingly efficient and functional, endowed with specific characteristics that granted them exceptional vitality.

For example, thanks to an increasingly efficient metabolism and physiological adaptations, rank S monsters could sleep for decades after a simple meal. This ability to conserve their energy for long periods allowed them to stay alive and survive in extreme conditions.

Kellan and Lyra stood before the panting beasts. The monkey, in its final moments, had gouged the boar's eyes, yet despite its injuries, the boar remained alive. Blood continued to flow from its wounds, and it showed no signs of recovery.

Witnessing the critical state of the monkey impaled by the defence of the boar, Kellan and Lyra aimed and thrust their black iron spears toward the monkey's head and heart. Thus, they finished it off, leaving no means for the monkey to dodge the attacks.

Splash, Kellan and Lyra's black iron spears pierced the monkey's skull and heart.

Feeling the monkey's breath fading away, the boar suddenly found itself on high alert. The primate's claws had violently ripped out its eyes, depriving the boar of its keen sight. In this fierce battle where both creatures had shed copious amounts of blood, the boar's sense of smell was greatly disturbed. The absence of its eyes forced it to rely on its sense of smell and the surrounding sounds to try to locate its opponent. However, the amount of blood lost in the battle had created a confusing mix of scents permeating the air. The odors of the boar and the monkey mingled, forming a chaotic olfactory symphony that muddled the trails.

The boar found itself immersed in a true labyrinth of scents, where the essence of its own blood blended with that of the dying monkey. Each inhalation was a challenge, as it had to orient itself using its sense of smell to try to locate its adversary.

Anxiety surged within it, fueled by the difficulty of determining the source of the surrounding smells. Each gust of wind brought with it a multitude of fragrances, causing confusion in its mind and making its task even more arduous.

In this oppressive atmosphere, the boar struggled to remain calm and focused on the auditory clues reaching its ears. Its ears perked up, capturing every rustle, every subtle movement. It tried to compensate for its blindness by enhancing its other senses, listening attentively to the slightest signs of presence. Every crackling twig, every breath of wind, every rustle of leaves was scrutinized with increasing intensity.

Unfortunately, despite its efforts, the olfactory cacophony persisted. The scents of the monkey and the boar overlapped, mingled, and confused, deceiving the boar's instincts. The situation became increasingly frustrating and disorienting, as it couldn't discern with certainty the exact position of the thing that had killed the monkey.

As Kellan and Lyra had just ended the monkey's life, they noticed the anxious reaction of the boar, scouring the ground and sniffing frantically around.

[Kellan] It's too weak to notice us.

[Lyra] I agree. I'll approach stealthily and inflict an additional injury on it. Once its attention is focused on me, you can launch your most powerful attack

from its blind spot.

[Kellan] Perfect, I'm ready. Let's take action, Kellan declared, picking up a branch and skillfully tossing it just in front of the dying boar.

Crack, crack.

The branch crashed to the ground, immediately grabbing the boar's attention. It turned its head in the direction of the sound, its bloodshot eyes. The boar let out a deep growl, ready to defend itself.

The boar raised its paw towards the noise, its sharp claws gleaming in the light, and slammed it forcefully into the ground. The impact was so powerful that it shattered the branch into pieces and formed a small crater where it hit. Wood fragments flew in all directions, creating a cloud of debris.

The ground trembled slightly under the force of the blow, attesting to the boar's brutal power. Its muscles tensed, ready for action as it concentrated on the surrounding noise.

Its heavy breathing caused the nearby leaves to tremble, while its tail whipped through the air with disconcerting violence.

Lyra cautiously approached the boar, aware of its strength and reactivity. Every step was calculated to avoid triggering a violent reaction from the beast.

Holding her spear firmly, Lyra carefully chose her angle of attack. She aimed for the boar's previous wounds, intending to exacerbate its already existing injuries. With precision, she stabbed the spear into the vulnerable areas of the beast, driving the tip deep into its flesh.

The boar roared in pain as its muscles tensed upon the impact of the spear. Lyra maintained her grip firmly, putting her full weight on the spear, which sank into the body of the furious boar.

This new pain was the last straw, as the boar sensed the threat to its life. In a brutal motion, it ripped out the spear that was still lodged in its body, leaving behind the monkey's carcass.

Lyra saw her efforts rewarded as the boar began to move toward her, while she made slight noises to guide its attention.

Despite its condition, the boar violently shook, trying to dislodge the spear still embedded in its body...

To no avail, the spear had only worsened the existing wounds on its large frame.

The boar followed the sounds made by Lyra, while Kellan positioned himself about twenty meters behind the boar, waiting for an opportunity to launch his final attack.

Lyra continued to run, not hesitating to step on branches, allowing the boar to follow closely.

After a few minutes of running, the boar realized it couldn't catch up to its target and decided to slow down before coming to a stop.

Seeing the beast's decision, Lyra took out a knife and threw it at the boar, which miraculously sensed it coming and dodged it.

Observing the boar veering off the weapon's trajectory, Kellan emerged from the bushes, utilizing his mastery of the art of the spear to create a spectacular entrance. He skillfully climbed the surrounding trees, moving with agility from branch to branch to gain height.

Suddenly, in a fluid motion, Kellan dropped from the top of the tree, his spear pointed straight toward the boar's head.

*Lance Art: 2nd Form: Pierce.*

The weapon gleamed with intense light, which gathered at the tip of the spear.

As the spear descended upon its target, Kellan shouted with a powerful voice, amplifying the impact of his attack.

The sound of the weapon slicing through the air was deafening, and the boar felt an unyielding force pierce through it.

The spear's tip penetrated deep into the boar's skull, eliciting an explosion of pain. The boar's cry resonated through the forest, bearing witness to the effectiveness of the attack.

Kellan maintained his position, his gaze fixed on the boar as it struggled to free itself from the grip of the spear. His spear mastery allowed him to keep a firm hold, preventing the wounded beast from turning against him.

While the boar tried to extricate itself from the attack, Lyra rushed forward and with a swift, precise motion, forcefully pulled the spear out of the boar's flesh, resulting in a jet of blood spurting from the gaping wound, while the boar collapsed to the ground in a final breath.
