Returning to life as a Dragon
Beginning of the invasion

Beginning of the invasion

I didn’t even realize when I went to sleep, Last I remembered I was gaining a better understanding of my mana flow and succeeding in ……. Ok nevermind, It all just came back to me.

“Ahhh! Son of a bitch this hurts!” I yelled as a pushed one of my feet against my head hoping that the pressure would help from the rhythmic pain that was pounding against my skull.

“I didn’t realize my son was so vulgar.” Mom said from my left. I looked over and she was in human form sitting on a chair with a book in hand. She smiled at me while getting up and a green glow emitted from her hand that soon covered my whole body.

“Well nothing seems to be wrong with you besides just the regular mana deprivation that always happens the first time a young dragon activates their [Dragon Sense].”

“I fainted from using an ability that all dragons have? Isn’t that a bad thing?”

“Honey, your Dragon Heart is just starting to grow and acclimate to your body. Right now I’m guessing it’s roughly the size of a bean, so pumping out that much mana all at once without the proper tempering and control resulted in your pushing out all of your mana all at once. I was told that you were awake for a few seconds afterwards and that is a huge indication of your potential. I am so proud of you honey!”

She gave me a huge hug and I smiled really big at that. To think that I was born without anything special but suddenly after a few lucky breaks, I was being shown a potentially amazing future. I just have to work hard at it and keep training.

“Where is dad? I think I need to keep training now that I can activate one of my abilities, I should get used to it as soon as possible right?”

“Eh? My little boy is already becoming a meathead with nothing but training on the brain? Your going to end up just like your little brother Bellator aren’t you?” Mom said with a fake sniffle but she chuckled and pointed towards outside.

“He left with your grandpa to check out something, they should be back here shortly if you’re really sure you want to get started. Your body is fine physically, but your Dragon heart needs a little bit more time to process and accumulate mana, so no using spells or abilities until it recuperates, understood young man?” She looked at me with a very serious glare that sent chills down my spine. I nodded my head fast enough to put a heavy metal band to shame before I got up and walked out to the balcony of the cave.

I was looking over the forest and saw the huge clearing that dad made last night and saw a couple figures moving around inside of it. I wanted to activate [Dragon Sense] to help see clearer but the thought of mom finding out already gave me the shivers so I just kept looking in that direction.

I tried to focus and imagine a thin line of mana concentrating in my eyes and before long I felt a slight tingle that started in my chest and slowly made its way up my neck and finally stopping around my eyes. Almost immediately the world around me started to lose clarity except for what was right in front of my eyes, It was like tunnel vision but on steroids! Pretty soon I was able to see the clearing as if I was right there!

But what I saw next worried me… I saw as dad and grandpa were fighting against some kind of creature, It was covered with dark fur that almost resembled shadows as it twisted and moved around the field. When it came across a shadow it seemed to melt away into it and emerge in another shadow that connected to it.

I knew right away that this was a troublesome fight and I needed to let mom know.

“MOM! DAD AND GRANDPA ARE FIGHTING SOMETHING!” I yelled back into the cave before turning back to the fight. I gasped when I saw that in that short few seconds I looked away, more of those shadowy beasts had joined into the fight!

I didn’t know what to do and I knew I couldn’t help but something inside me was screaming at me to just do something, anything but stand there and be useless. The rational part of me knew I was at this point but deep inside that part was raging about that same fact.

Mom came running and gasped when she looked towards the clearing. She immediately told me to look after my siblings as wings erupted from her back and she took off in that direction.

The kids came out soon looking worried and scared while looking up at me with eyes full of confusion. I smiled and told them everything was ok as I herded them back into the cave. I looked back towards the fight and saw as spells and elemental explosions now erupted from the battle and I saw as more dragon forms appeared and headed towards the noise.

“Please be safe everyone.”
