Chapter 5

Pain was not a concept foreign to the Wolf God. He had been tortured before, burned alive, had his limbs ripped out, and had once even been soul-searched by a now long-dead bastard. Compared to those things, however, being forced into a spatial anomaly was certainly a different experience.

It wasn't necessarily painful, per se, and yet, it made him want to scream and cry in pain. The void around him pulled at his flesh, trying to rip him apart. However, his body was simply too strong to be destroyed like this, allowing him to persevere.

Had he been a lesser wolf, he would have said that whatever journey he'd been forcefully brought through lasted an eternity. However, with his divine senses, he could easily tell that it had only been 18.62 seconds in total.

At last, he was released from whatever dimension he'd been thrown into, and finally found himself within a more material plane, something that filled him with joy even though every single cell of his body ached.

Well. This kind of pain he could deal with, he was used to it, after all.

----------------------------------------

It had been a fairly normal day in Tokyo, with people going about their daily lives. The children went about their day, playing video games, studying, or whatever else children did, while the adults also did whatever it is they do.

Tourists ran around the historic city with open mouths and curious gazes, while businesses catering to them silently sucked their wallets dry.

All in all, it was a nice and average day, with perfect weather and a generally jovial mood all around. Naturally, this all changed, when the fire nation att skies abruptly began to darken out of nowhere.

Had it been simple clouds, then that would have been the end of it. However, as people around Tokyo began to notice, cracks began to form in the skies. Long, black lines that came and went, some lasting as long as a few seconds while others lasted only a fraction of a millisecond.

Then, after a few minutes of this, just as people began to record the strange event, a single, absolutely massive crack formed in the skies. Unlike the others, this one also quickly split open, revealing a sort of passage inside of it.

From it, a titanic figure fell downward, quickly slamming into the city below and immediately flattening a large chunk of it. Hundreds of thousands died immediately, through no fault of their own nor of the titan who squashed them like bugs.

As the large crack in the sky closed and the dark clouds cleared, sirens began to blare everywhere within the city and beyond as people began fleeing en masse. A few mad conspiracy theorists had begun shouting that the end times were here, and with the general chaos, there were a few who actually believed them.

As various aircrafts took to the skies to inspect just what the hell had happened, satellite images began to arrive, quickly spreading through the internet, and thus, through the whole world.

The massive figure of a black wolf greeted them, its belly quietly rising and falling as it still breathed. It had several harsh cuts through its body, but strangely, no blood flowed out.

The Japanese government was quick to call for a general lockdown and evacuation of the area, even as the military rushed in to help the very lucky few who'd somehow managed to survive the impact of the wolf's arrival. Few dared to approach the titanic form of the wolf, but for those that did and actually managed to touch the wolf, they found it's fur and skin to be harder than anything they could think of.

For such a strange event to happen in the middle of one of the leading nations of the world, the news of this spread very quickly. Soon, questions began to be made, some accusatory, some curious, and some opportunistic.

In the midst of all of the sudden chaos and panic, the wolf's eyes opened.

Divine sense lashed out from the Wolf God, not to cause harm, but to inspect. It had been a long time since he'd been forcefully knocked out, but the forceful expulsion from the space rift had been more than enough to do so. After sensing no immediate danger to himself, the Wolf God got to his feet, grimacing at the wounds.

They'd heal soon enough, but it was still annoying that his body had actually been injured to such an extent. Not even Luxia, a major Goddess, had been strong enough to damage him significantly. Sure, she could have done so had she actually tried her hardest... But still, it was the thought that counted.

Spatial rifts were dangerous. He kind of regretted not researching into spatial magic a bit, having spent practically all of his focus on any and all magic that could strengthen his body instead. Oh well, no use crying over spilled milk.

With his thoughts not more clear and his wounds quickly closing, the Wolf God took the opportunity to inspect his surroundings. He glanced downwards, idly noting that he'd done quite a lot of damage to whatever civilization lived here, and that there were quite a number of dead bodies squished.

There was no guilt, for he had done much, much worse before. Still, he frowned a bit at the unnecessary deaths, promising himself he'd one day be strong enough to never be forced into a situation like this.

His eyes moved from the pancaked ruins beneath him and over to his surroundings. There was a city around him, and he was actually forced to blink a few times in disbelief, as he saw just how many humans lived here.

He only grew more curious as he examined the city further, finding many things he felt familiar with and yet struggled to remember.

His eyes were drawn a bit higher than the city, watching the strange metal birds as they flew and hovered around him, keeping a respectful distance, with only a few daring to come closer. He easily caught one of them with his divine sense, bringing it up to his face and closer to his eyes.

He could feel a few humans residing within the bird, and the more he looked at it, the more he felt as though he could recognize these... things. He'd always bragged about having a perfect memory, as many Gods did, and yet, apparently his memory wasn't as perfect as he'd thought it was.

It was only when he used his hearing to listen in to whatever the people inside the metal bird-thingie that a spark of recognition appeared within him. The words felt oddly familiar... Kaiju.

Kaiju... Kaiju... He struggled to remember just where he'd heard the word from, all his other worries temporarily pushed to the back of his mind so that he could fully focus on this.

Abruptly, he remembered. Wasn't Kaiju the word for monster or something in that one language he'd been learning oh so long ago, before he was kidnapped?

His eyes snapped downwards once more, his vision easily piercing through the wall that was distance and examining everything. Cars... Yes, those metal boxes were cars... Trains... Airplanes...

He felt a headache incoming. Had he been thrown back into his previous world? But why? Did they think he could not grow stronger within a manaless world? Surely the Civilized Gods were not so stupid, right?

His mind whirred full speed as he tried to figure out just what those bastards were getting at. He'd more or less understood that they wanted to hold him prisoner, in a way. He had no idea how to return to his world, and knowing that those bastards had kidnapped him once already, they surely had a way to know the coordinates of this world or something.

He grimaced, slowly coming to a dark realization. They wanted to use him as a bargaining chip, and knowing his fellow faction members, they wouldn't hesitate to give up some benefits in order to rescue him. However, the Civilized Faction surely wouldn't just give up their hostage so easily...

He harrumphed, deciding that those thoughts were for another time. Thankfully, his connection to his priests and priestesses had not been severed, so he sent them all a message stating that he was fine, although trapped in another world. He ordered them to immediately summon his fellow Gods and inform them, before focusing back on his more local situation.

He frowned when he felt something that could barely even be called a tap on his skin. Looking at the source of the feeling, he saw that one of the planes surrounding him had dared to shoot something at him... Which wasn't exactly the smartest thing to do.

Squashing the plane into a tiny metal ball took barely a thought, his divine sense easily overpowering any and all resistance the metal bird offered, which admittedly, wasn't very much.

Letting out a howl of anger and sadness, the Wolf God bounced up, his feet easily finding purchase within the air. He needed to find a place to think, preferably one where he wouldn't accidentally squash thousands of humans by accident.

After all, these humans were innocent, just like the few that lived within his empire. Unlike the humans under the Civilized Faction, he had no reason to hurt them, and no desire to do so.

With one last, almost apologetic, glance at the half-ruined city behind him, he began to run towards one of the tallest mountains he could feel, knowing full well that it was barely a tenth of the size of his favorite mountainous abode... Still, he'd make do, just as he'd always done.
