The forest of death (II)

The forest of death (II)

She smiled. That skeleton was three levels higher than her, and at each level above her the experience received was doubled. Therefore, it was like eliminating eight. Also, the experience needed to level up was quite smaller at the beginning, so just by dropping a hammer she had almost reached level 3.

She looked at the other two, which were circling around without caring about their fellows.

“I don’t have other hammers that heavy. Hmm. Maybe… Heh, heh, they’ll be useful,” she laughed mischievously while looking at her inventory.

In the past, on a mission, they had ended up digging for hours to obtain large stones. Once they could pick them up, the stones could be stored in the inventory, so the three of them had been picking them up for one to keep. Later, they had taken the rocks out of the inventory on the side of a mountain, to exterminate a horde of slow but powerful bull-snails.

It had been Goldmi’s idea, which had seemed absurd at first. Despite that and while laughing, they had tested it with a huge rock. To their surprise, it had crushed several of their enemies.

After that, they had spent many hours preparing, storing rocks. Finally, they had disposed of the enemy army simply by taking those rocks from inventory, and letting them tumble down the steep slope. Also, they had kept a few rocks as souvenirs. Everyone except Eldi, who had simply shaken his head and shrugged.

With that, they had managed to complete an extremely difficult mission by a very unorthodox but effective method. Normally, only very large groups were able to carry it out. It should have been impossible with only three players.

She took a deep breath and pushed away the old memories. She also wondered again if they were there too, or if they would return at some time in the future.

Gjaki didn’t have many of those rocks. So, she decided to wait for the right moment to take it out of inventory and drop it.

However, while waiting, more and more of those skeletons started arriving, up to level 7. Even a couple of level 8 zombies were there.

“Aren’t their levels too high? This isn’t like in the game,” she protested to herself.

However, in the game, she also couldn’t climb a tree, like she had done to be out of reach of her enemies, at least not at that level. At that time, it was also impossible to just drop a hammer on them, or to plan to drop a huge rock.

She kept waiting until there were quite a few of them. They were tough enemies, which weren’t easy to defeat because of their stamina. However, they completely lacked intelligence, so, they were totally defenseless against the fall of a huge rock on their heads.

Eight skeletons and a zombie were crushed by the tons of rock, while another skeleton and a pair of zombies had been trapped, with part of their body crushed.

“Heh, heh, that’s leveling up!” she laughed, satisfied. With just a rock, she had managed to raise 3 levels, up to 5.

At 3, she had recovered Dark Touch, which allows adding darkness magic to a weapon. It gives it a corrosive power, which can even damage armor little by little.

The next spell was Blood Overload, which uses the blood pool in oneself to temporarily increase speed, reaction time or senses. Consume blood instead of mana.

Finally, she had unlocked the Exit Portal. She didn’t know if her old portals would still work, but she was determined to use it whenever she could. In the game, Gjaki had seen more than once how useful it was to have it, especially when she needed them and had to regret having passed by and not created them. Although, for now, she didn’t see a suitable place nearby.

About her skills, at 3 the vampire had recovered Glide, which was a racial skill. It could do exactly what its name says, by creating a thin membrane under the outstretched arms. If it was used in conjunction with Darkness, she could fall upon her prey at night without being detected, as far as the moonlight didn’t betray her.

Scratch, at 4, was also a vampire racial skill. It allows to briefly grow the nails and use them as sharp weapons. Nonetheless, it wasn’t very useful to her, as her daggers used to serve that purpose. Despite this, like all the others, she had leveled it up to 10.

Dagger Basics isn’t a skill in itself, and it has no use by itself, but it was necessary to learn dagger skills. Others didn’t need it, as it was part of their profession. For her, it was one of the prices she had to pay in order to customize her abilities. It was curious that a dagger skill was before the Basics, but apparently it only needed to exist and fill a slot.

She Glided her way down to the massive rock, while using Darkness so as not to immediately attract the unwanted attention of the remaining skeletons and zombies. Immediately upon landing, she wielded the whip, which had been infused with Dark Touch, to hit the trapped level 6 skeleton and the two level 8 zombies. The sound attracted the attention of the others enemies, but only to where it was produced. Gjaki’s presence was being protected by Darkness.

She didn’t take long to achieve her goal, to finish off the wounded and increase her experience, thus reaching level 6. The vampire didn’t need to review the ones she had unlocked, as she had done it before. Instead, she looked around her to choose her next victim, while still protected by the spell.

In fact, Gjaki had recovered Illusionist Basics and Whip Basics, which gave her nothing now. They only served to allow the learning of other spells and skills.

Zombies were rather weak to slashing damage, so she settled on skeletons, which allowed her to use the longer range of her whip. A level 5 one was not very far.

It turned in the direction of the whip after the first attack, and even started trying to climb the rock. However, Gjaki had spilled some oil after landing on it.

“This Goldmi’s idea didn’t work in the game, but now it’s very useful,” thought the vampire, while finishing the resistance of her enemy through lashes with corrosive power.
