The carriage stopped as soon as we arrived at the gates of the city. The guards approached the carriage and Sebastian who went out notified them that they came back. The guards then straightened their backs and saluted the carriage. We were exempted from the inspection and headed inside the city.
[Palette City]
"Hiro, do you have any place to stay in for the night?" Lumina wondered.
"No princess, I am planning to go to search for an inn to stay." Hiro humbly replied.
"How about staying with us in the castle?" Lumina suggested to Hiro.
"Sorry but I have to decline that offer."
"Is that so?" Princess replied with a slightly disappointed face.
"I don't want to be of trouble to you." Hiro explained.
"Well, just come visit me anytime." She clapped her hand as she smiled.
The carriage stopped at a fountain surrounded with shops. It seems that they will drop me here. I got down the carriage.
"Mr. Hiro from here you can head to that road and you'll reach an inn called, 'Greenwood Inn'." Sebastian told me as he pointed the direction of the inn.
I nodded to tell him that I understood. Princess Lumina came down from the carriage and she reached a badge of some sorts to me.
"Hiro, this is the Royal Family's emblem. Just show this to the guards stationed at the gates of the castle to enter. You can also use this whenever you are in trouble." She smiled as she gave it to me.
"Thanks" I thanked her as I received the emblem.
Princess Lumina and Sebastian went inside the carriage and it began to leave. I bowed my head and went to direction that Sebastian told me. It took me little time to find the inn. It has a sign on top of its door so I was able to find it easily. I went inside the inn.
[Greenwood Inn]
"Welcome!" A middle-aged woman greeted as I came inside the inn.
"Welcome customer! Are you staying for the night or are you going to have a meal?" A teenage girl who has about the same height as me asked.
"One room please." I told her as I made a signal with my hand.
"One room costs 10 copper per night. It already comes with use of the bath." She told me the price.
"I will stay here for a week then How much is it in all?" I asked.
"That would be 70 copper coins in all." She replied.
I then gave her 1 silver coin.
"Mama here's their payment." She gave the silver coined to the middle-aged woman who seems to be her mother.
"Please fill this form up and here is your change." The lady handed me my change
I counted my change. I received 30 copper coins. It seems that a silver coin is equal to 100 copper coins.
After writing I gave the form back to the lady.
"Hiro is it? I forgot to introduce myself, I'm Rebecca and here is my daughter Felicity." The middle-aged woman introduced herself.
"I'm Felicity. Nice to meet you Hiro." Her smile was from ear to ear as she introduced herself.
"By the way Hiro do you have an identification card? I need to verify if this is your real name or not." Rebecca asked.
"Uhmm... Actually, I lost my card on my way here. I even lost my luggage in the forest. Do you know where I can get a new one?" I told a little lie to her.
"I heard that if you don't have a card you need to pay additional tax to enter the city. I must have burned you quite a lot of money. You can get it at either the city hall or the guild. Since there are many kinds of guilds just pick one. You must be tired after all your journey. Just rest for tonight and I'll tell you where the nearest guild is located. She answered with a worried face. Just what you will expect from a stereotype innkeeper.

"Thank you. Is there any food ready? I'm quite hungry." I asked.
Felicity then got a thin wooden tablet and gave it to me.
"Here is our menu. I personally recommend our specialty..." She happily suggested a lot of food and I ordered them since my stomach was growling and I'm in the mood to taste their cuisine here.
After eating, I paid and went to my room. Since all of my things are inside my inventory, I did not have to arrange luggage. I went to the bath which was located at the back of the inn. It was like your typical bath but instead of having a faucet, they got the water from a nearby well which is then heated in some sort of magic device. I need to learn more about this later.
I felt refreshed after taking a bath. I went up to my room and slept. Morning came and it felt quick unlike my first night here in this world.
I ate my breakfast in the inn and Rebecca told me where to find the nearest guild. I immediately left the inn and went on my way to the guild.
The city was a crowded place. You can see various travelers and citizens from different races. There were many structures if compared to earth the style here is older.
I finally arrived at the guild after asking directions from other people to make sure I was heading towards the right direction.
The guild was a huge structure with three floors. It looks similar to the guilds that you find in online games. One of the things that made me know that this is the place is the huge sign on top of the entrance.
[Adventurer's Guild]
So the guild she was referring was an adventurer's guild.
I went inside and the first thing that welcomed us is the receptionist. She was a pretty elf with short green hair who looks around her twenties.
"Welcome to the Adventurer's Guild. Uhm, is it your first time here?" She tilted her head to the side wondering if I was new.
"Yes, just arrived yesterday. I'm Hiro, I was actually wondering If I could get an identification card and register here since my card was lost when I was on my journey coming here" I introduced myself and informed her about my 'situation.'
"Ah is that so? My name is Milly." She introduced herself as she got a paper and pen from her desk.
"Please write your information here. Do you know how to write? We charge 3 copper for writing and 1 silver for the card."
Apparently, I gained a bit amount of money from hunting on my way here so I was able to pay for it. After writing my name and age I gave the paper to Milly.
"Please place your hand on the crystal. It records your information and leaves a marker here in the guild that will notify us when you die. I hope that your marker won't vanish though." She explained.
I placed my hands on the crystal and it glowed. After a while the the crystal dimmed and went back to its original state.
"The process is complete. Here is your card please put a drop of you blood for it to be bound to you." Milly handed me my guild card.
Using a needle provided by the guild, I pricked my finger and dropped blood into my card.
"Now you have bound your card. Do you want an explanation regarding the basics?" She clapped her hands and suggested.
"The guild card is used as an identification paper. As an adventurer you can take requests from the bulletin board over there. However, one must have sufficient requirements in order to qualify on taking the request. Adventurers are classified into ranks. Since you are still new, you have a novice rank. The order of the ranking is this: novice, intermediate, bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Novice is the lowest while platinum rank is the highest. You can increase your rank when your achievements have reached a certain number. Do you have any questions?" Milly gave a very long explanation. Since it was the same with the games I played in my previous life, I didn't have any questions.
"Since you have understood please be careful. You can now take quests. Good luck in your future endeavors." She cheered with a smile on her face.
"Thank you Milly. Do you know where I can find a library?" I asked.
"Oh, I thought you'll take a quest immediately but the library huh?" Milly told me where the library was located. I bowed to thank her and went outside the guild.
After walking for a while, I arrived at the library that Milly told me.
[Palette City Library]
"Welcome to the city library!." The receptionist greeted me.
She asked if it was my first time using the library, because it was my first time she informed me of the rules. In order to use the books inside, one must pay 2 silver coins and leave an identification card as security in case a book gets damaged or lost. When done, 1 silver and 50 copper coins will be returned if no book was lost or damaged. It seems that 50 copper coins is the entrance fee. Using the library is quite expensive since a single day is equivalent to 5 nights in the inn.
I gave 2 silver coins and my guild card to the receptionist and when she saw my name. She became ashamed.
"Ara?! Sorry for not noticing Mr. Hiro. Mr. Sebastian has already informed us that you can use the library for free. Just ask us if you need anything." She bowed her head. She was embarrassed because of the mistake she made
"No it is okay. It was my fault for not introducing myself earlier." I calmed her.
I explored the library and took quite a lot of books. Most of them are about the history and culture of this kingdom. I am quite a fast reader and I am proud of it. After reading the books about the kingdom, I read a book about monsters it was like a bestiary. Amy, the receptionist earlier was also a librarian and was the one assisting me in finding the books that I need.
"Mr. Hiro, it is already time to close the library." Amy told me in a soft voice.
"Oh sorry, I was so engrossed in reading that I didn't notice the time." I replied.
It was already dark outside. I thanked Amy and returned to the inn. I learned a lot of things from reading the books. The story of the hero was passed down from generation to generation and was quite famous. After eating and taking a bath I went to my room. I pondered about the things I need to do for tomorrow. Since I still need to unlock the locked parts of the storage I need to level up. I think I'll take on a quest tomorrow, I thought.
When I woke up, it was already morning.
