Chapter 6 We Have Job To Do

Chapter 6 We Have Job To Do

Halrick and Charlie found themselves in a tense situation as they attempted to backtrack, they quickly realized that the pressure of the moment had caused Halrick to forget their original route. As they stood pondering their next move, the piercing noise of a revving chainsaw filled the air, sending them both into a state of panic.

Acting quickly, Halrick urged Charlie to find refuge inside one of the nearby lockers. With a sense of urgency, Charlie managed to squeeze himself into one of the lockers, and as soon as he did, Halrick swiftly closed the door and scrambled into an adjacent locker himself.

Despite the cramped and uncomfortable quarters, Halrick managed to fit inside the locker, and the two of them huddled together, hoping that the menacing figure with the chainsaw would soon leave. Their hopes were dashed, however, as the sound of heavy footsteps approached and the aggressor burst into the locker room, brandishing the chainsaw in one hand.

He began muttering incoherent phrases, his voice filled with menace, as he searched for them within the confined space. "Where are you, boy?" he growled. "I'm not going to hurt you!"

The eerie sound of the psycho's heavy footsteps echoed through the dimly lit hallway as he walked past the row of lockers. Hidden in the locker to the right, Charlie could hear the chilling sound of the chainsaw's blades mercilessly cutting through metal. He pressed his trembling hands against his mouth, desperately trying to stifle any sound that might give away his hiding place.

Meanwhile, Halrick, who could only sit there helpless and had been silently watching from his hiding spot, could no longer bear the terrifying scene unfolding before him.

With a surge of adrenaline, he pushed open the locker door, only to lose his balance and tumble out onto the cold, grimy floor. As he struggled to regain his footing, he found himself face to face with the menacing figure of the psycho, who had now turned to confront this unexpected interruption. The chilling sound of the revving chainsaw filled the air as the psycho began to advance menacingly toward Halrick, his eyes filled with an unrelenting, malevolent glare.

“Well...Well...Well. I’m going to have a lot of fun killing you. You German rat.” The psycho said as he slowly got closer.

Halrick started looking left and right for any objects that he could use as a weapon to defend himself. On his right, there was a piece of rotten wood that was part of the wooden bench near him. He grabbed the piece with his left hand and smashed it against the psycho’s face.

The wood exploded to pieces, causing the psycho to clench his face. Halrick's quick thinking bought him a few precious seconds to scramble up from the slick floor and flee. However, the slippery surface made it difficult for him to maintain his balance, allowing the maniac to resume the chase. Desperately, Halrick began flinging anything within reach from the locker door, hoping to impede the psycho's advance, but the determined assailant paid no heed. With a deafening roar, he revved the chainsaw and surged forward, relentless in his pursuit.

As this chaotic scene unfolded, Charlie seized what he saw as his golden opportunity to escape. With a surge of adrenaline, he pried open the door of his locker and bolted for the exit, leaving Halrick and the deranged individual to confront each other. The creak of the door, as Charlie flung it open, caught the attention of the psycho, prompting him to turn his head and momentarily divert his focus, creating an opening for Halrick.

In that split second, Halrick's keen eyes spotted an unobstructed path to the right of the locker room. Without hesitation, he sprinted toward the door, his heart pounding in his chest. The psycho swiftly pivoted, scanning the area frantically in search of Halrick. Spotting him making a break for the door, the assailant revved the chainsaw and lunged in pursuit, determined to catch his prey.

After Sonny’s speech, the duo continued walking past more dead bodies being hanged on meat hooks. They reached an old staircase that led down. A glance at each other was enough for Sonny to start making his way down the stairs, each step making a squeaky sound.

Reaching the bottom of the stairs, the two check their corners, making sure that there weren't any creatures waiting to pounce. They end up walking into a room that inside has a dead body and an open coffin. Inspecting the body, they notice the drill stuck in the person’s head.

“What the heck happened?”

“Seems we’re not the only ones here. Search the room.” Sonny instructed.

As Isaac searched through the desk's drawers, his fingers closed around a worn photo tucked in the back of one of them.

Carefully, he turned it over to find a picture of Charlie strolling down a bustling city street, completely unaware of the camera capturing his every step. On the back of the photo, in messy handwriting, was the address of Anna's apartment. Isaac looked at the coffin and looked back at the photo and pieced together what had happened.

“Poor kid,” Issac said.

“What do you mean?”

Isaac showed Sonny the photo.

“Damm,” Sonny noticed the open casket. “You don't think that the kid is here, do you?”

“To be honest, I think the kid is here, but thankfully he managed to get out. We need to find him.”

“No! Our mission is to find Halrick; now let’s move!”

Isaac persisted that they at least try and find Charlie. "Sonny, he’s just a kid.”

Sonny ignored Isaac and left the room, with no other choice. Isaac followed Sonny, and the two continued their search for Halrick. As he searched on the floor, Sonny noticed a freshly lit cigarette.

Sonny took a closer look at the cigarette and asked Isaac for his thoughts.

“It’s been lit for a few minutes, and judging by the length and smell, it would be a Malrow brand of cigarette. Cheap but effective.”

“You used to smoke these?”

“No, I hated the feel of them in my hand.”

Sonny placed back the cig before proceeding to stomp on the cig, putting it out.
