Chapter 3 The Hunt Begins

Chapter 3 The Hunt Begins

A sleek black car tore through the dark night sky, its headlights slicing through the darkness with determination. Inside, Sonny anxiously muttered to himself as he searched for a clue to the whereabouts of the elusive lime green car and the mysterious contents of the briefcase.

"Where on earth could they have disappeared to?" Sonny exclaimed in frustration.

"Who knows? This city is vast. They could have easily slipped into a super-secret hideout, plotting to revive our Russian acquaintance," Isaac replied with a touch of dark humor.

Sonny's patience wore thin. "This is no time for jokes! We need to find this guy."

Ignoring Sonny's agitation, Isaac fiddled with the car's radio, determined to salvage some information. "It's worth a shot," he murmured.

"It's busted, remember," Sonny reminded him, but Isaac persisted until the crackle of a radio frequency filled the car.

"All available units are requested at Rivertall Apartments. Possible homicide reported and wounded officer," the dispatcher's urgent voice crackled through the speakers before repeating the message.

"Forget it. Let homicide handle it. We have bigger concerns," Sonny dismissed the call, but Isaac interrupted.

"Wait," Isaac said to Sonny before returning to the dispatch. "Any sign of a lime green car in the vicinity?"

The sound of papers being shuffled could be heard in the background. “Not sure. You would need to ask the witnesses.”

With no other choice, Sonny turned the car around and headed for Rivertall. As they parked the car, Sonny and Isaac walked up to the police officer standing guard and presented their IDs to gain access inside. Once indoors, another officer informed them that the incident occurred on the fourth floor. They took the elevator up and found the hallway swarming with police. They maneuvered through the crowd until they reached room 407.

Upon entering the room, they were greeted by a scene of chaos. The table in the center of the room was shattered, with blood stains on several glass shards. Sonny decided to search the other rooms for clues, while Isaac remained in the living room.

Isaac's attention was drawn to the television, which was emitting a constant static noise. Without much thought, he reached over and turned it off.

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

Sonny's voice echoed through the apartment, calling out, "Isaac! Get over here!" Isaac made his way to the room from which Sonny's voice emanated. As he entered the room, a scene unfolded before him, prompting Isaac to let out a deep and heavy sigh. "It’s up on the gruesome scale," he muttered under his breath.

The body of a female was impaled on the wall by two kitchen knives in each arm, keeping her up off the ground; her eyes were caved in, and her clothes were covered in blood; it wouldn't be surprising if it was her blood.

Searching the room, Sonny opened a drawer that contained a letter that read the following:

Dear Miss Dunaway,

I am reaching out to you because your brother Charlie Dunaway has recommended you as his trusted guardian who can provide him with the necessary care and support. Charlie has successfully completed his four-week recovery and is now in good physical and mental health, ready to be discharged. If, for any reason, you are unable to take on this responsibility, don't hesitate to get in touch with the number provided at your earliest convenience.

Best regards,

Doctor Axel Halrick

Intrigued, Sonny puts the letter in his back pocket and tells Isaac that it's done here. As they walked outside of the apartment complex, Sonny noticed the wounded officer getting checked over by medics. Wanting more information, Isaac approaches the officer and asks him some questions.

“Who did this to you? What were they wearing!? Come on, talk to me!”

The cop was in a lot of pain; he struggled to find the words he needed to say, “It was one guy.”

“What was he wearing? Tell me!”

An officer who was watching over the wounded cop intervened.

“Hey! Ease up on him.”

Sonny turned his head to the officer. “He has key information,” he said before repeating the question.

The injured cop gathered his breath and said, “Black. He was wearing all black! That’s all.”

“And how did he leave?”

The same officer interrupted again, "Look, you’ve asked enough. The kid’s traumatized.”

“Green,” the injured cop said.

“See, he’s talking nonsense now.”

“No! It was a green car he used.”

Sonny quickly rushed back to his car and ordered Isaac to get in. Once inside, Sonny told Isaac that they were going to be visiting Doctor Halrick.

Stupidly, Isaac asked if it was for the wounded cop, to which Sonny looked at him annoyed, "No, you idiot. We're going to see him about this letter.”

Sonny turned on the car’s engine and floored it to Doctor Halrick’s office.

Back in his office, Halrick was sitting in his chair looking over some paperwork when a tall figure was standing at his door. Confused, he yelled out that the office was closed for the night and that they could come back tomorrow, but the figure wanted to move.

Halrick sat up from the chair when the figure smashed the glass window in the door and proceeded to climb through the now broken window.

The figure was seven feet tall with very long and slender arms and legs.

“Who...who are you?” Halrick asked.

A devilish smile appeared. “You don’t remember me?”

Halrick’s eyes widen in both fear and shock. “How...you were exterminated; you shouldn’t be alive.”

The figure grabbed Halrick by the throat and started choking him, the grip getting tighter and tighter until a heavy crack sound was heard. The figure let go of his grip on Halrick’s neck and watched as he fell to the floor dead.
