Chapter 4 Settle The Score

Chapter 4 Settle The Score

Halrick shot up from his desk, terrified by the nightmare he just had. He quickly looked at his door and was relieved to find that the window frame part of the door was still intact before feeling around his neck and checking to see if that was fine. After checking his neck, Halrick went to the restroom to splash water on his face.

As the water started flowing, he looked at himself in the mirror, noticing the heavy bags under his eyes. Seeing this, Halrick decided to call it a night and head home. However, before he could leave the office, the phone started to ring. A sense of nervousness washed over Halrick as he reached for the phone.

“Hello?”

The person on the other side of the person was quiet for a quick second before a very familiar voice spoke.

“Hey, Doc. Mind if I ask you something.”

“Charlie! Of course, you can ask away.”

“You ever had a dream that felt so real you could have sworn it happened to you?”

“Huh? Charlie? Are you okay?”

Charlie's voice changed to muffled screams.

"What the hell have you done with him?"

A thick Southern accent appeared on the line.

“Don’t worry, the boy’s safe.”

An angry tone came from Halrick: “What do you want?”

“Ha-ha... Come to the old Hillside Slaughterhouse. I’ve got a score to settle with you.”

The call ended once the man made his demands. With no choice, Halrick ran out to his car and headed for the old Hillside Slaughterhouse.

Once a mental asylum, the old Hillside Slaughterhouse underwent a change in location due to MediDyne's growing popularity. The company would be bought out by the IAC and was later renamed Unit 16.

What became of the Hillside Slaughterhouse would be occupied by murderers who were looking for the ideal location to dump their murder victims. Halrick parked his car outside Hillside Slaughterhouse and began walking inside the dark quiet building. Moving passed the blood-stained walls, Halrick's heart raced as he neared a metal gate.

He cautiously pressed his right ear against the cold, rough surface, straining to pick up any sound from beyond. The eerie silence was shattered by the distinct creaking of footsteps on the floorboards behind him. Whirling around, he was met with the sight of a grotesque, hunched figure with elongated fingers, unmistakably a failed respawn victim, lurking in search of its next victim.

Locking eyes with the creature, Halrick's instincts kicked in as he sprinted away, the creature hot on his heels. As he fled, he caught sight of a narrow pathway leading downwards. With no other option, he hurtled down the narrow path and sought refuge behind a nearby wall, desperately hoping to evade the relentless pursuit of the creature. Peering cautiously over the edge, he observed the creature darting past the entrance, leaving Halrick to catch his breath in the daunting silence.

Elsewhere, the sleek black car arrived outside Doctor Halrick’s office, standing by the door. Sonny turned the door’s handle and knocked the door forward. Inside the office was pitch black. Isaac walked over to the light switch and flicked the switch only for the lights to stay off. He tried again, but the same results happened.

“Storm must have knocked out the power.”

The two pulled out their flashlights and began searching around the office. Sonny noticed that the restroom door was left open. Intrigued, Sonny walked inside the restroom and noticed a few water drops on the floor.

Back in the main office, Isaac cautiously scanned the room, his eyes darting from one corner to another. "This guy moves fast; he must be keeping something that he doesn't want us to find," he muttered under his breath. Suddenly, he let out a sharp cry and collapsed to the floor.

Sonny, who was nearby, sprang into action. With lightning speed, he drew out his revolver and rushed to Isaac's side. Together, they shone their bright light at the object that had caused Isaac to fall. It was a chilling sight - a life-sized skeleton prop.

"My god! It's his latest victim in full display!" Isaac exclaimed, his voice filled with horror and shock.

Sonny let out an annoyed sigh, trying to mask his frustration. "You idiot. It's not real; it's a prop," he said, trying to calm Isaac down.

"Oh. It looks so real," Isaac replied, his voice trembling with lingering fear.

"How the hell did you become an IAC agent?" Sonny muttered to himself, a mixture of exasperation and disbelief in his voice.

The front door of a door being opened caused Sonny and Isaac to take cover. They waited until there was silence before striking. Sonny looked at Isaac and counted down by three using his fingers. Once Sonny reached zero, he opened Halrick’s office door and pointed his gun at the stranger.

“Freeze IAC! Hands where we can see them!”

They followed Sonny’s orders and begged that they don't shoot.

“Who are you? What are you doing here?”

The stranger revealed who they were. “My name is Kat Willow. I’m Dr. Halrick’s assistant.”

The phone on Sonny’s right started to ring. Sonny picked up the phone, but before handing over the phone, he told Kat to act normally before handing the phone to her.

“Hello?”

“Kat?” The sound of the heavy rain was overwhelming the person speaking, " Kat, it's Axel. I’ll be out of the office for the night. If anyone needs to see me, tell them I'll be available tomorrow.”

Kat looked at Sonny, who was still pointing his revolver at her.

“Where are you?” She asked Halrick.

“Don’t worry about where I am. Just go home for the night.”

Issac took the phone out of Kat’s hands.

“Listen here you psycho! We’re coming to find you.”

“Who is this?” Halrick asked.

“It’s the voice of justice.”

Halrick hung up the phone once Isaac finished speaking. Isaac’s action only made Sonny more annoyed.

“You idiot! Why did you do that!?”

“Don’t worry, I know where he is anyway.”

Sonny signaled Issac to reveal where Halrick could be.

“Murder house.”

Sonny was silent before saying, “What makes you think he’ll be there.”

“The rain,” Issac said before explaining, “The worst part of the storm is at Hillside. I’m surprised that you didn't pick it up sooner.”

Issac then quietly whispered, "How did you become an IAC agent?"

Sonny put his revolver back inside his holster and left Halrick’s office. Issac meanwhile thanked Kat for her cooperation and to head home before getting in Sonny’s car. Once inside Sonny started the car and the two headed for Hillside.
