Plan is A Plan After All

Plan is A Plan After All

If you ask me, 'What's so great with Kaku's bunker?'... I can't answer it.

He already planned everything, from the sleeping dorm, generator room, research room, observation room, storage room…everything.

Yeah, Kaku really brought generators to the point of filling the whole room. I don't know what these generators are made of, nor what they need as fuel, but from the look of it, it seemed to me that it was something that never existed in the whole world yet.

Sure, the electricity might not really be able to get to each of the rooms he designed, but it was more than enough to get everyone safe for the first two hours, and there doesn't seem to be any sort of noises nor gases emission coming from the generator.

The most surreal experience was, everyone in the bunker genuinely tried to survive with everyone, rather than just helping themselves…this isn't real.

The fact that almost everyone was also acquainted with the others is also weird, because they have such different backgrounds. From engineering…wait…they all practically engineer, just with different subjects. I take it back.

Oh yeah, right now I was peeping through every room there is in the bunker, and…I don't know what they're doing…Is that a fricking car? From scratch? In just two hours?

Mobility definitely is needed, but really?

I see four engineers working on something that resembles a four-wheeled car, albeit still looking like a prototype.

If I could explain the layout of the bunker…I would say it was designed with something similar to Fallout Shelter, with stairs in almost every corner to make people move faster…no, I'm not the one that designed that. I'm serious.

Each of the walls..or roof I suppose, that is connected to dirt and stone underground, was layered by unknown steel that is really durable even when an earthquake attacked us during the start of the catastrophe.

There were exactly forty people that were working their hardest in their respective fields. Forty three if we count Kaku, Stella, and me.

And from such a large number of people, I think I was the only one that could even think about taking a sleep at this time…even though I wasn't really sleeping.

Anyway…

Out of curiosity, I decided to look into the quest-thingy screen again.

[Quest Type : Survival]

[Quest Condition : Survive until half of humanity has gone extinct!]

[6,021,989,002 / 8,302,341,742]

Almost half huh…I really wondered where do they actually get these numbers from?

Sure, Kaku said they're similar or practically gods…but even a hundred of humans in one singular building was already too much don't you think?

No, you need to go outside more, me.

I'm already outside, though.

============================

Six hours since the first sight of the catastrophe.

Time : 23:24 in the Middle of this Long Night

Sky : Bleeding Red

Location : The Sky above National Monument of Indonesia, Jakarta.

Operation, Controlling Masses, Has Begun!

I was on a helicopter, with four crew that Kaku had deliberately acquired-no, recruit them…just how much preparation does this guy do?

I'm using Astral Vision to scan the surrounding area once more, and the nasty creature still got my full attention no matter where I go.

An abomination consisting of the heads and legs of that a lion, shark body with fish scales and iconic shark gills, and scorpion stinger as their tails.

It was so disgusting, I almost vomited on my seat.

"What the heck is that thing?"

"Did you find anything?"

"Yeah, a disgusting one, position at six o'clock."

"Roger that." The pilot's reply and manouvered the helicopter to the location.

We spotted the monster nearby, and the pilot trying their best to move the helicopter above it.

"Looking at it again makes me wanna vomit, let's make this fast."

"Roger, preparing support."

The 'support' was automatic-machine-gun installed on the helicopter, the reason why there are five people on this helicopter in the first place.

"Shoot at it, Obliterate it."

"Roger, Shooting toward the target."

Bullets were showered at it, holes were everywhere in its body…but they regenerated almost instantly, yet…it not even showing the need to move nor evade these bullet barrage…as if this wasn't enough to make it feel fear.

"Reloading."

"Wait. I don't think wasting another three rounds of those precious bullets will make it suffer more than this."

"But, the plan-"

"Plan is but a plan, on stage, we might need to improvise things up. Just keep circling around this area. I will jump straight towards it."

"Roger that."

"Good luck, Rinka."

I jumped from the helicopter that was flying around 150m above the ground, just barely higher than the monument.

The rush of adrenaline surges in, as I close my distance to the monster.

You might think, how was I supposed to kill the monster with this measly weak body of mine, aren't ya, me?

Yeah, this is stupid, you don't even wear any parachute, stupid me!

==============================

One Hour Ago, in the bunker.

[Quest 'Survive' has concluded!]

[Distributing Rewards …]

[Rewards distributed!]

[Woah, even with half of you gone, it still is a lot aren't you?]

Quest…concluded huh?

I decided to imagine the quest screen, and it immediately popped up in front of me.

[4,090,150,323 / 8,302,341,742]

It really is halved, yet the numbers are still going down.

Speaking of conclusion, they are definitely is talking about rewards, aren't they?

But, I don't know what the rewards are even.

"Rinka, wake up."

Ah, right, I was still using Astral Vision.

"Kaku?"

I could hear voices from the area surrounding my actual body now?

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

"We need to act fast."

"I'll briefly teach you how to claim the [Rewards] from the so called [Quests]"

[Quest Rewards Received]

[Warning!]

[You already have obtained blessings before obtaining quest rewards.]

[Rewards have been adjusted.]

[New Skill Acquired!]

[Pain Intolerance]

[New Equipment]

[Training Iron Sword]

Damn, these pop-up does not want to stop, it really appears immediately after another.

But…Pain Intolerance? And blessings?

[Pain Intolerance]

Effect : Ignore any kind of damage once this skill is activated.

Activation Requirement : Fatal damage has been caused to the user.

What the heck.

But…this could be useful for survival if I play it right…

Anyway, next is blessings.

[Protection of the White Tiger]

Effect : Resist any kind of mental-type status effects.

Side Effect : Anyone and anything that could see beyond what human beings would normally see, will get terrified by you or interested in you.

Eh???

Aren't that a bit too good? And the side effect…was practically harmless.

Mental-type status effect huh?

What do these means-

[Mental-Type Status Effects]

Drowsy, Fear, Terror, Charms, Paranoia, Frenzy, Insanity, Berserk, Silence, Confusion, Panic, Hypnosis, Hallucination, Curse, Intoxication, Emotion Changing Status Effect.

and every lower tier status effect of the above effects.

[Emotion Changing Status Effects]

Happiness, Sadness, Despair, Melancholy, Angery, Anxiety, Rage, Envy, Love, Pride, Greed.

That is way too many words, why does it go all the way there to explain everything?

"So..Have you received the rewards?"

"Yeah, I was currently browsing the terms in this system."

"…you're weird, Rinka. Anyway, what kind of skill do you got?"

"Pain Intolerance."

"Only that?"

"Yeah."

He was…rather disappointed? I don't know, I can't read his face. Such poker-faced man.

"That's that and this is this."

"I want you to get into a suicide mission."

"That will definitely sparks hopes in humanity if it succeeds."

"But, will make nobody remember you if you failed."

"So, are you in?"

Wai…suicide mission? Even after knowing what kind of skills I got? You gotta be kidding me.

"Is that an order?"

"It's not, merely a suggestion."

"…Fine. Might as well die trying to do something rather than dying not knowing what killed you, isn't it?"

"That is definitely a unique perspective, but yeah, I agree."

=============================

And we're back here.

I'm still skydiving here, without any equipment other than this training sword that I get from the quest conclusion rewards.

What is the plan again?

Ah right…I need to survive this fall.

But how?

I don't have anything to make me survive this stupid idea of jumping straight into the monster.

The sight of it becoming clearer, indicating that I'm getting closer and closer.

Think, Rinka, THINK!

PAIN INTOLERANCE…but fatal damage?

What is even considered fatal for the system to activate it?

"Astral Vision, the ability to see anything and everything with the price that you lose a bit of your body control."

"The price for such power was so severe, she lost her hearing and sights."

Is losing hearing and sight a fatal wound?

I don't know.

All I know is, I need to try it.

I kept triggering Astral Vision, focusing more, and more into the vision aspect.

My field of vision, becoming clearer, as if I got a huge-wide monitor after 3 years playing something on a small screen. It was exactly that very same feeling.

As if the night wasn't here, I could see everything as bright as when it was still a sunny day.

I immediately cancelled Astral Vision…and I can't see anything with my right eye.

I can't feel my right eyes, as if I never even have it in the first place.

Did I succeed?

I triggered Pain Intolerance. Positioning my sword to make sure I hit anything.

BOOM.

Huge sounds and shockwaves were travelling to surrounding areas. Soil was flying, and so did some small trees.

I was alive.

"OH GOD."

"THAT WAS SICK!"

When I was praising myself, I could hear some weird noises. A scary one at that.

"RaaGHGHRW"

The monster was still alive. Its big body was about three times that of mine.

Now what? The initial attack didn't finish.

Yeah, this is the end.

All plans are still plans, after all.

The dust of the shockwave subsided, and now, It spotted me.

I ran, as fast as I could, running away from the abomination.

It chases me.

I can't activate Pain Intolerance, the trigger of the skill has not met yet.

Why have the requirements not met when I still have my sight gone?

I keep running away.

But…I know nothing will happen If I keep running.

Turned back to face the stupidly disgusting abomination.

I swung my now-broken sword toward it.

"Fuck this, At least I'll defy the fate with this."

It is coming to me.

Near.

Even more closer.

It was breathing in front of me.

And then, I noticed, half of it's body, was damaged, perhaps by the initial suicide attack.

I ran away from It.

It chases me.

I manouvered, and now rushed towards it.

I picked some stones along the way.

I dodged the ramming attack, and kicked the bleeding area.

Jumping with all my might, just to do a ten-meters jump. But it was enough to reach the wounded area that was left by the now broken sword.

I slammed the rock that I picked along the way, to the body that was previously damaged.

Slammed it like some NBA Athletes doing slam dunk for three-point shots in basketball.

I repeated it for one more time, and it was enough for its HP value to fully go down to zero.

The bleed's damage was ridiculous.

"Woah... *huff*... I *huff* will not *huff* doing this shit again. *huff*"

Collecting my energy, I was lying on the ground, looking at the red sky.

"I Won, I fucking WON."

[Umm.]

[Already having blessings this early…and defeating region bosses even before the scenario started.]

[I'm sorry, but we haven't decided what rewards to give for defeating region bosses.]

[Just, what are you?]

[Anyway, I'll give you rewards befitting for this at very least.]

[Cheers!]

[Title Gained]

[Defier of the Fate]

Do the most damage dealt to a region boss.

Reward: Stamina Up, Random Skill Box.

As soon as the screen was gone, another screen, or rather, an announcement board was flying above the sky.

[Congratulations! Congratulations!]

[Jakarta Region Boss was Cleared!]

[Participant, 5]

[Rewards, Monsters in Jakarta Region get a reduced power, and Jakarta now considered a safezone!]

[Congratulations! Congratulations!]

Talk about rewards, huh?

Also…what the heck is that really big leap? Did I get some nonsense power that time?

After seeing the announcement, all the shock fatigues were coming into me, forcing me to lay down, sleeping on the ground, with the monster I just killed, exactly beside me.
