Chapter 56. Place

Chapter 56. Place

After completing an introductory tour of key points of the university, Ivan’s group headed to the cafeteria to have a snack before further work. The university cafeteria was spacious and bright, with large windows letting in daylight. The tables were neatly arranged and the walls were decorated with local art, giving the place a cozy and inviting atmosphere.

For lunch, the group was offered a variety of dishes - from traditional Russian pies and borscht to lighter salads and vegetarian options. Ivan chose a plate of hot borscht and several pies with meat and cabbage, while Sofia chose a light salad of fresh vegetables. Andrey took a sandwich and coffee. They wanted to feed Businka something, but the animal looked at them strangely, making itself more comfortable right next to Sofia’s plate.

- I'll feed him. - She treated the hare to a piece of salad. The girl knew that her pet loved souls, and he was essentially not interested in simple food.

While they ate, the conversation inevitably turned to the details of their mission. Ivan, taking a deep breath, began the conversation:

- I have reviewed our appointment documents. Our main task is to ensure the safety of the president and all forum participants. We will have to work closely with hundreds of military personnel who will also be on site. Well, as agreed, we will meet guests at the main entrance.

Sofia, having finished her salad, supported him:

- Yes, this is a big responsibility. In addition to the standard security, there will also be a bunch of extras. Colonel Andreev mentioned that it would be especially important to monitor for any unusual activity that could indicate interference from outside forces.

- Yeah, if it snows unexpectedly, I think it will be unusual, we’ll have to sound the alarm. - Andrey said while sipping coffee.

- Exactly, and the documents indicate that we must be ready for activation at any moment. Reaction time should be minimal. We must be prepared for rapid mobilization, especially during the main events of the forum. - Ivan responded to the sarcasm, which made Andrey wince. He was just joking, but here he was so serious.

- Okay, let's mobilize where necessary. It's good that we have Shipko. He is well versed in logistics and will be able to coordinate our movement around the territory.

“Anyway, we’re not here to just sit and watch.” Our task is to actively participate in ensuring security. It will be an interesting experience for all of us.

When lunch was almost over, a man in a formal business suit suddenly approached their table. He looked irritated and looked around with displeasure at those sitting at the table, especially fixing his gaze on Alexandra in the form of a hare.

- What kind of menagerie is this? he asked sharply, snorting in disapproval. Sofia, without losing her composure, answered him calmly:

- This is Private Businka, he even has documents. But who are you?

The man furrowed his eyebrows and there was obvious irritation in his voice:

-Who is the group commander? Surname!

Ivan, who was sitting opposite, stood up and answered formally:

- Junior Lieutenant Kharitonov!

- They've staged a booth here! - shouted the man, clearly unhappy with the hare sitting on the table. After which he turned sharply and left, throwing dissatisfied glances over his shoulder.

After he left, an awkward silence hung in the air for a moment. The group exchanged glances, each one digesting what had just happened.

“What a guy,” muttered Elena, one of the familiar supers who arrived with Ivan’s group. She sat at the next table and looked with interest at the back of the outgoing jacket, drinking orange juice.

Ivan nodded, grinning:

- Never mind. There will always be someone who doesn't like something. The main thing is that we know what we are doing and why we are here.

After the unpleasant incident, Ivan's group continued their lunch, trying to ignore minor irritants and focus on the mission ahead. They were discussing the details of security and coordination with other units when their handler, Lieutenant Shipko, ran into the dining room with visible concern on his face.

“News from headquarters,” he began, quickly looking around the group. - A minister from the president’s entourage showed up at our headquarters. The President will arrive soon, so there are more and more of them here. And this minister was very annoyed with your group. More precisely, he said that the president should not see this “zoo”. You are transferred to the furthest position.

“But you couldn’t tell by looking that it was a minister.” - Maxim reacted, sitting next to Elena and warming his ears.

- Yeah, I didn’t even see him on TV. - the girl said thoughtfully and, catching Lieutenant Shipko’s gaze, pretended that she was not there.

Ivan exchanged glances with Sofia and Andrey.

-Where exactly are we being sent? - he asked.

- To the eastern perimeter security point. It’s on the edge of campus,” Shipko replied, checking the data on his tablet. - There is an observation post with a good overview of the approaches to the university. Not the most central location for action, but ideal for long-range visibility and early warning. Have you finished your meal? Great, then let's go, I'll show you your destination.

The group quickly finished lunch and followed Shipko to the transport allocated for them. The journey to the eastern security point took several minutes. Upon arrival, they found a small but well-equipped location.

The observation post was located on a hill, which provided a strategic advantage in the form of an extensive overview of the surrounding area. High-tech surveillance cameras and motion sensors were installed around the stone structure, making it possible to monitor any approach to the campus.

In addition, the site was equipped with several shelters and sniper positions, making it an important point in the general security system. Despite its remote location from the main events of the forum, it was possible to effectively control the surrounding areas and prevent any attempts at unauthorized entry.

“Not the worst place for observation,” Sofia noted, examining the equipment. - If something goes wrong, we will be the first to know about it.

- Only if something does not happen inside the university, then we will be the last. Everything is relative. - said Andrey.

Ivan nodded, peering at the security monitors. He agreed with both opinions.

- Let's get ready for work.

At the new post, among technically equipped shelters and monitors, the tense atmosphere in the group began to grow. Andrey again raised the question of the presence of a hare in their team.

“You see, because of this hare we are all here, in this ass,” Andrey said irritably, pointing at Businka. - There is no place for an animal during serious operations.

Ivan, entering the conversation, defended the team’s decision:

- Andrey, you know very well that Businka is not just a hare. He is one of us, and his abilities have saved us many times. We are not in trouble because of him, but because of the bureaucracy and the fears of senior management.

Sofia supported Ivan, adding:

- Bead has as much right to be here as any of us. He is Private Businka, he has documents and tasks, like everyone above in our team. Well, think about it, we’ve been sitting here doing nothing for an hour, but is that a reason to get excited every time, Dyusha? Why are you pestering him?

- Oh, go away! We ran into it...

At this time, the military, who were at their posts, watched what was happening with some interest. It wasn't often for them to see superyi arguing among themselves, especially in such conditions. They looked at each other, but tried not to interfere.

Andrei, although he remained dissatisfied, realized that he would not receive support in this dispute. He turned away silently, focusing on the security monitors, realizing that the discussion was over and his work required concentration.

“Let’s focus on the task,” Ivan said, trying to reduce the tension. - Our task here is to ensure security, and we must work as a single mechanism. So I suggest that after the forum, we find a bar in the city and resolve our differences.

- What's wrong with you? Drinking with a hare? I'm not completely crazy!

- I’ll go, Ivan and Businka will go. And if you have even a little madness in you, then I hope for your participation.

Ivan nodded at Sofia’s words, looking once again at the hare, who seemed completely indifferent to the fuss going on around him. The team once again immersed itself in monitoring the area, with each team member fulfilling their role, reaffirming their commitment to the overall mission.

Stolen story; please report.

There was tension and anticipation in the air of the Far Eastern Forum as the first delegates began to arrive in Vladivostok. The time before the event was quickly running out, and it was important for everyone to make sure that all aspects of security and logistics were fine-tuned to the smallest detail.

At the security point where Ivan’s group was located, a radio was playing, through which a local news channel was broadcasting:

“Attention, Vladivostok! This morning the first delegates of the upcoming Far Eastern Forum began arriving in our city. Among the arrivals are high-ranking representatives from dozens of countries, including members of government and leading experts in the fields of economics, ecology and security. It is expected that the forum will open up new opportunities for cooperation and strengthening international ties. All safety measures have been taken, and the city is ready to receive guests at the highest level. We will tell you more about the forum program and expected events in the next hour. Don't switch!"

Ivan, being next to the radio, turned to Sofia:

- I hope everything goes smoothly.

Sofia nodded in response:

- Yes, every delegate is safe here, as promised. All precautions have been taken.

At this time, one of the military men standing at the post added:

- I just saw the arrival of several cars with flags. These must be our guests. Apparently, the beginning of the forum promises to be interesting.

Another soldier, checking his equipment, commented:

“If only all these politicians don’t give us another headache.”

The team continued to monitor all entrances and exits using surveillance cameras and other monitoring tools. Eight hours at the post flew by unnoticed for Ivan’s group, absorbed in monitoring. Despite the fact that the military contingent was partially replaced immediately before the start of the event, the supers remained in their places, strengthening the security layer with their unique abilities.

Preparations for the forum were actively covered by the media. Journalists and television companies from all over tried to capture every moment of this significant event, making it accessible to a wide audience. This attracted many civilians who, swayed by interest and the opportunity to be part of something important, gathered around the university.

The campus, usually quiet and calm, became a site of intense activity. Temporary barriers were installed along its perimeter, and the police, in cooperation with the military, regulated traffic and ensured order. Police patrols monitored the crowd to prevent any attempts to disrupt public order and ensure the safety of all present.

Sofia, peering at the security monitors, commented on the situation:

- The event seems to have attracted more attention than expected.

Ivan, checking communication with other team members, noted:

- Yes, information noise only adds to the work. But it’s good that our coordination is excellent. The police are doing a great job outside too.

Andrey, still skeptical about the mission, added:

“I hope all these civilians stay calm.” I wouldn't want any unnecessary problems.

While the guys were talking, Ivan checked the radio transmitter, his expression became more and more tense. After several unsuccessful attempts to contact headquarters, he turned to Private Sokolov, who at that moment was setting up the surveillance system, switching the contrast of the cameras around the perimeter of the security zone. It was getting dark.

“Sokolov, try to contact headquarters through the backup communication channel,” Ivan commanded, checking the possibility of contacting members of his team. While their transmitters were inactive.

Private Sokolov nodded and got to work. He turned on the device, quickly switched to the backup channel and began trying to establish communication. The minutes passed slowly, each one adding tension to an already alarming situation. He repeated the standard calling procedure several times, but there was only silence in response.

“There is no connection,” Sokolov finally said, putting the radio transmitter aside. - There is silence on all backup channels.

This message made Ivan react instantly. He jumped to his feet, looking around, quickly analyzing the situation.

- Anxiety! Everyone to the posts! - he shouted, instantly mobilizing all members of his team with his voice.

His group and the military group on duty immediately responded to his command. Sofia, Andrey and other team members rushed to their workstations. Everyone checked their weapons and equipment, preparing for any possible threats. While the military stationed nearby also intensified their attention, tuning in for support from above if necessary.

Sofia quickly checked the surveillance cameras, trying to detect any signs of trouble or unwanted infiltration into the forum grounds, while Ivan ran upstairs to the snipers and tried to get a first-hand look at the situation.

Suddenly, the evening silence was interrupted by a deafening sound. In the very center of the university campus, where the main buildings and forum areas were located, a fiery flash erupted, rising in a column of flame to the heavens. Instantly, the air was filled with the sounds of screams and chaos from both civilians and military personnel who were involved in organizing the security of the event.

“It has begun...” Andrey said quietly, his eyes reflecting the tension of the moment.

- Group, let's move out!

He turned to his team, nodded to them, and they dashingly jumped over the railing of the observation post. They ran in the direction of the university, amid increasing gunfire that began somewhere in the depths of the campus. The duty group remained in place.

As they approached the scene, the sounds of gunfire became louder and clearer. The smell of gunpowder hung in the air, and it became obvious that they were facing not a simple threat, but a well-orchestrated attack.

As they approached the center of the university, they noticed the bodies of military and civilians scattered on the ground, which were covered by unknown equipment. This was strange, since the cameras also showed this area on their screens, but they saw nothing.

- In addition to communications, we also worked with cameras...

The bunny held Sofia's neck tightly, his keen senses allowing him to perceive details that others might miss. He was willing to use his unique abilities to locate the source of a threat or assist in an evacuation.

The group finally reached the main university building. There was a pandemonium of military personnel there. She made her way through the tightly packed crowd, trying to get to the place where the shooting started. At that moment, the sound of the shooting became deafening and they saw one of the attackers - he was super, possessing powerful destructive abilities. This super was dressed in a dark, almost black uniform, which did not have any insignia. His face was hidden by a mask, only his eyes sparkled with cold fire.

Super used his abilities to create powerful energy waves that hit everything in their path. Step by step, with its waves, it destroyed the stone covering and threw back the military. The fighters closest to the top flew off to the side like broken dolls. The shooting had no effect, the bullets did not reach the target.

His attacks easily knocked out several soldiers, and his power seemed limitless. However, when he was about to attack again, he was hit by a shot from a large-caliber sniper rifle fired by one of the military men at the observation point. The head was torn off from above and he collapsed.

In the midst of the confusion, someone shouted:

- They are mortal too! Stop panicking! - The military man, pointing to the corpse from above, loudly continued: “Turn him around and put him under guard, he’ll suddenly rise again.” So don't spare any bullets on him.

These words inspired other soldiers. Despite the initial shock of the surprise attack, they quickly organized themselves for further action. The body from above was quickly secured and placed under strict guard, and Ivan's group continued to move deeper into the university, to the place from where they believed the attacks were continuing.
