Chapter 39. Sisters

Chapter 39. Sisters

Alexander was lying in a clover field, all wounded. Everything around was quiet, but only for him, he saw and heard nothing. His soul seemed to be corroded by the explosion, although he had not yet realized the full depth of his condition. Suddenly he felt the soft touch of small hands that gently stroked his face. Then his body seemed to fly into the air. He felt himself floating far and high, but still could not see anything.

At one point, he heard the Sister’s voice sounding somewhere very close:

- How will you receive my kiss like this? It won't be as romantic as I imagined...

Alexander tried to answer, but could not. His voice did not obey him, nor did his body. The sister continued:

- Okay, you did your job well. I will give you an additional reward. - her voice sounded soft and encouraging.

The next moment, Alexander felt a new strength appear in his body. Energy filled him, restoring the damaged parts of his soul and body. He began to slowly regain his vision, although everything around him still seemed blurry. His hearing also gradually returned, allowing him to hear the wind blowing and the distant sounds of the Edge.

The compressed spheres of the soul that the Sister gave him restored him from the inside. There were only five of them, but it was enough to completely heal his spiritual body. Gradually his vision cleared and he began to examine his surroundings.

Alexander's gaze rushed upward to the heavens, where the girl's figure beckoned him. She smiled at him. And below it there was a beautiful view of the chaotic world of the Edge.

At one point, his body crossed an invisible boundary, and the environment around him changed. Now he is hovering over a valley with a picturesque lake in the very center. He was at an altitude of about five hundred meters, his gaze slid over the landscape, capturing every detail. Mountains, green grass, trees. Like a fairy tale corner. In general, he had the opinion that the Sisters love such places, because this was the second time he had found himself in such a place.

But suddenly the force that held him in the air disappeared, and Alexander began to fall down to the ground. The wind whistled in my ears, and the ground was rapidly approaching. Thoughts flashed through his mind that all his efforts could end here, in this fall.

- This can't be the end! He whispered to himself, trying to remain calm.

At the last moment, when the ground was already very close, Alexander felt an invisible force forming around him, slowing down his fall. He landed softly on the shore of the lake, barely feeling the impact. Looking around, he saw that he was in an amazing place, full of peace and beauty.

- So this was another test? – he asked himself thoughtfully, standing on the shore of the lake, contemplating its calm surface. - Or they just couldn’t come up with a door...

Alexander, standing on the shore of the lake, absorbed the beauty of this place. The lake was calm, its surface reflecting the clear blue sky and clouds floating across it. The water seemed so clear that through it one could see the bottom, strewn with stones and sand of different shades.

Around the lake stretched majestic forests, consisting of trees with green and golden leaves, creating the impression of eternal autumn. Under Alexander's feet there was soft grass, among which wild flowers grew, filling the air with sweet aromas.

In the distance, beyond the lake, mountains rose, their peaks covered with snow, creating a contrast with the warm and peaceful landscape around. The sun was shining brightly, but it was not hot, and a soft, cool breeze sometimes brought with it a slight whisper of leaves.

Alexander noticed that there was a small wooden bench next to the lake. He walked up to her and sat down, allowing himself to rest for a moment and completely immerse himself in this atmosphere of calm and harmony. This place seemed removed from all the worries and worries of the Verge, a place where one could forget about one's troubles and simply enjoy the natural world.

Sitting there, Alexander felt his mind and body completely relax. All experiences of recent events began to recede, giving way to a feeling of peace and inner harmony.

At that moment, Alexander heard light footsteps behind him. Turning around, he saw the Sister, the same one who was present in heaven. She was petite, young and incredibly beautiful. With a slight smile, she approached Alexander.

-You've done your job. - she said. - And you are entitled to a reward. You wanted a kiss. I allow myself to be kissed.

Alexander slowly rose and stood opposite the girl. Remembering his first love, those feelings, he succumbed to them now. His heart was filled with excitement and jitters, the feelings were as bright as then. His sister, noticing his excitement, smiled even wider, clearly pleased with his reaction.

Alexander looked at her tender lips, and then into her green eyes, and said:

- I would like this moment to last forever.

He took a small step forward, still looking into her eyes. It was a touching moment, full of tenderness and intimacy.

However, in his head, everything was not so romantic. There Cassandra whispered: “What you are doing now will lead to something that cannot be corrected.” Alexander tried not to show that he heard this whisper. He continued to look into the Sister's eyes, but inside he was increasingly wary of this warning. And the whole situation and what he was going to do could cost him his life. He had already activated Cassandra's gift. Ephemeral, invisible hands emanated from the young man’s body and slowly approached the Sister’s head.

Charon, who gave the task to kill her, told Alexander in detail about how Cassandra's Gift works after its second evolution. The gift made it possible to put any creature to rest, but this required prolonged visual contact. In the case of Sister, her physical presence was also critical. It was a risky plan, and now, with Cassandra's ephemeral hands almost clasping her Sister's head, Alexander knew his moment had come.

He took another step forward, and Sister, expecting a kiss, leaned towards him. At that moment, Cassandra's ephemeral hands squeezed her head. In reality, even bruises appeared, repeating Cassandra’s female hands. The Sister's eyes widened in horror and understanding of what had just happened. She tried to scream, but couldn't make a sound. She froze in place, glassy-eyed, completely paralyzed.

Alexander felt how he began to slowly absorb the Sister’s soul, and at the same time his consciousness was filled with her memories. He saw fragments of her life, her experiences, her thoughts and secrets. It was like diving into the deep ocean of an alien being, where every memory was a wave that carried him further and further.

In one of the memories, the Sister, and her name was Maila, recalled how she organized a complex labyrinth of illusions for her sisters. It was a child's play that happened during a forgotten period of her life. It was part of a game they played every year to test their strength and cunning.

This year has been a test for her. The labyrinth was created from mirrors and light, and each reflection distorted reality. The sister smiled, remembering how her sisters tried to find a way out while she watched them, hiding in invisibility.

“It’s not fair, why can’t I use my powers?” - Maila remembered the cry of Vlada, the mistress of time. With her abilities, she could read her timeline and find a way out, but this was forbidden. Maila was very happy spending time with her sisters.

Another memory took her to the day when she used her powers to save her sisters from the stratification of the world. Alexander watched in horror as the Edge split and invaders poured into it. These were creatures that looked like spiked dying people. Pale, with big eyes and games that were like a part of themselves.

She created a grand illusion of an army, making her enemies believe that they were facing powerful warriors. Then, she spent all her strength and almost died. The sisters saved her. Supported by force. In that moment, they were finally united and could be called family. This memory was filled with pride and a sense of unity with the sisters.

In the third memory, the Sister remembered how she intervened in the fate of a mortal who accidentally ended up in their world. He found an artifact that should not have made it into reality. But what happened, happened. She created a series of illusions to teach him and help him find his way home. She shouldn't have interfered, it was against the rules of the Edge. But the visions that she was able to send did their job. This experience was special to her as it showed her how her powers could impact the lives of others.

There were other memories too. One of them took her back to the moment when she had to punish the Skeleton Executioner. She used her powers to create an illusion in which the traitor lived his worst nightmare forever. It was cruel, but the Sister considered it necessary to maintain order and authority among the sisters. She was already considered a leader then, for her character. Her memories felt the bitterness of this decision, but also an unshakable confidence in its correctness. After this, the Skeleton Executioner lost part of his consciousness, part of his soul, turning into a puppet with a thirst for punishment and a broken sense of justice.

Another memory was associated with a conflict between sisters, which escalated into a real war. In this battle, Maila used all her skill to trick and defeat one of her sisters, Poela. This act showed her ruthlessness and willingness to go to extreme lengths for her goals. And the passage where she personally expelled Chrisma, and then sent the Executioner to capture her, confirmed her ruthlessness.

- So your name was Chrisma. - Alexander said, looking at the undead cat from the vision. She had the power of Death itself, but she died so stupidly.

Another memory revealed the moment when the Sister was faced with the dilemma of choosing between her desires and the good of their world. She could use her powers to change the fate of any creature, but it came at a high price.

“I can change his fate, but the price...” she was talking to herself, but someone was nearby.

- You know this is wrong. You know the consequences. The rules of the Edge cannot be broken!

In this memory, she chose a personal desire, which led to unforeseen and tragic consequences. Alexander saw that as a result of her choice, he, the first of the Rejected, appeared. And there was the being who taught him in the beginning. Alexander wanted to know more, but the vision was interrupted there.

Further visions were chaotic, but he learned something that was inaccessible to many. The memories of the sisters revealed many events where the sisters competed with each other, using their powerful abilities to achieve their goals, but also to protect the Edge from external threats. Their relationship was complex, a mixture of competition and mutual support, and each was a unique and powerful ruler of her own aspect. And Alexander was able to create a unique portrait of each of them from what he saw.

- Vladi, was the mistress of time, the face, they were similar, only minor differences made them unique. The girl was the Lady of Time. She had the ability to manipulate time. She could slow him down, speed him up, or even make him go backwards. This allowed her to see the future and change the past, although each of her interventions required a huge price, and concerned only herself.

- Poela was the Lady of the Elements. She could control the elements - water, fire, earth and air. She could cause storms, earthquakes, and majestic natural phenomena, using her abilities to defend or attack. In her fight, if not for the possibility of tearing the very fabric of space, she would have won, but decided to give in to Maila.

- Chryse, Guardian of Life and Death. The girl had the power over life and death, was able to resurrect the dead and take lives. She also had knowledge of the secrets of the afterlife, but paid more than others when she fell in love with Rasputin. And wanting to be with him, she moved into the real world, thereby finally signing her own death warrant.

- Maila was the Master of Illusions. The girl, whose memories Alexander absorbed, ruled the world of illusions and deception. She could create complex mirages and delusions, confusing the minds and misleading even the most powerful beings. It was thanks to her power that she could broadcast herself over the entire Edge.

- Pozna, was considered the smartest of the sisters. She was the Lady of Knowledge. She was the keeper of knowledge and wisdom. Her library contained books about all the secrets of the world, and she herself had the ability to understand any languages and secret codes. But because of her character, she found it difficult to find the language and considered everyone stupider than herself.

- Sonya. The girl was considered the weakest of the sisters, Maila personally thought so. Sonya was the Master of Dreams. She mastered the realm of dreams and could travel through the dreams of other beings, controlling their subconscious and instilling thoughts or predictions in them. Because of her strength, she had trouble understanding herself. She divided her consciousness into thousands of parts in order to travel through the dreams of large numbers of people. She is one of the few who could interact with the real world. Alexander saw that she clearly had a split personality in one of her visions. That's where he knew her. It was she who made him fall in love with her, just by her appearance.

- Wetsu, Lady of Fate. The last of the sisters controlled the destinies of all creatures. She could see the paths of fate and influence decisive moments in the life of any creature. Maila complained in one of her visions that with her power, any problem could be solved, but Wetsu did not do this. Her view of her abilities was a mystery to her sisters.

The memories ended and he realized that now he was not just killing the Sister, but also taking her essence, her true self. This knowledge was both a blessing and a curse, because now he carried a part of her, her story, her soul. And something told him that for this knowledge, he could not only be killed.

The sister, still in a state of paralysis, looked at Alexander with impotent sadness in her eyes. Alexander, realizing the severity of his action, tried to remain calm and decisive. It was his choice, his path, and he had to follow it to the end. It began to disintegrate into ashen pieces that were carried away by the wind.

Alexander watched as the girl dissolved into dust. He completed Charon's task and obtained the Sister's soul, but conflicting feelings fought inside him. At that moment, he heard a gentle voice that was familiar to him. He turned around and saw another Sister. Sonya is a girl of incredible beauty who won his heart in an instant. Her face expressed deep sadness.

“Sister allowed me to see how you betray your praise of love for me...” she said. “I came to destroy you, and I was about to do it when you killed my sister.” I don't understand…

The girl was stunned. Alexander, feeling a mixture of fear and attraction, tried to figure out what to do next. His thoughts flowed slowly, like viscous tar. Suddenly making a decision, he hugged her sharply. Cassandra's Whisper howled in his ears: "Fool." But Alexander did not pay attention to this and kissed her passionately and tenderly.

She, to his surprise, responded to his kiss. When he pulled away from her, he said:

- I love only you. And I wouldn't dare betray you.

Cassandra's whisper sounded once more: "You are a fool," and then fell silent. The girl seemed to change her look, smiled and took off her light dress, exposing her perfect body. Her skin was like marble, smooth and light, and the graceful contours of her body resembled a sculpture. There was not a single flaw on her, every line was perfect.

Alexander, holding his breath, looked at her, and then clung to her again, plunging into passion and forgetting about everything in the world. At that moment, he completely surrendered to his feelings, forgetting about all warnings and dangers.

Alexander, consumed by passion, merged with the girl in a fit of sin, which continued until his soul was completely exhausted. When his strength was running low, the girl gave him five more compressed soul spheres, and they continued their unbridled solitude. Time lost its meaning in this place filled with passion and desire.

After their passion had finally subsided, Alexander lay back on the green grass, breathing heavily. The girl settled down next to him, and both of them were in a state of complete peace.

“My sisters will not forgive you for killing Maila,” the girl said. - Even though we quarrel, we are family. I won't touch you, but here are the others... You've stepped on thin ice, and it would be better for you to hide in the real world, and not here. Only death will await you here.

Alexander replied:

- My body in the real world is destroyed, and I cannot return. But maybe you can help me?

The girl laughed and answered:

“You probably saw my powers in her visions and you understand that this is not my path.” And others simply will not help you. But don't be sad. If you are lucky and your soul somehow gets to me, I will free you. True, I hope that you can survive centuries of torture and remain yourself. To my beloved Forsworn.

Her words were like music to his ears, but at the same time filled with bitter reality. Alexander understood that his path would not be easy, and that the dangers he caused could haunt him forever.

The girl quietly rose to her feet and stretched elegantly, allowing Alexander to once again admire her beauty. Then she put on her dress, neatly straightened her hair and smiled at him.

- You need to leave here. Of course, this abode is very excellent for pleasure, but I will take it for myself, and there is no place for you here. - she said, her gaze changing again.

Alexander, a little embarrassed, replied:

- I would love to, but I don’t know how to do it. And I want to know if we can meet you again?

- Eh, my dear Rejected. - Sonya sighed, her face changing. This time, Alexander clearly noticed the change. - You are now like the flame of Hades, you can’t even look at you, you can only publicly hate you. But I will help you.

The girl, still smiling, lifted Alexander into the air with extraordinary ease and powerfully threw him into the skies above the lake. From the sudden stress, Alexander’s vision darkened, and he could not breathe. In an instant, he passed the invisible edge and again found himself in the Edge, where he hovered in the air, stunned by its boundless majesty, and then began to fall, picking up speed more and more. What awaited him below were not the waters of the lake, but seething lava rivers.

As he fell, thoughts flashed through his mind about how incredible and dangerous his adventures in this world had been. He understood that his fate was now completely in the hands of Charon, who was obliged to help him. At that moment, Alexander felt a real fear of the unknown, which was mixed with the acuteness of the feelings experienced next to her.

Alexander's fall seemed endless. The air whistled in my ears, and the lava rivers seemed closer and closer. At the last moment, when he was almost at the very surface of the lava, his body suddenly slowed down and stopped. A luminous cocoon formed around him, protecting him from the burning heat. The ball flew slowly over the burning ground until it reached a relatively clean rocky shore, where Alexander was able to stand on his feet.

- Well, where to look for you now, Charon?
