Ch. 92 Pushed to The Limit and Beyond

When it comes to war and combat, a fraction of a second is all it takes to win or die. Natalie knew this, as did Michael, but it seemed the fractions were not in their favor.

Having lost her weapon in Butcher's meaty throat, Natalie could no longer put up a fight against the berserker and hunter. All she could do was run and dodge while the burning blade and the countless bullets were closing in on her skin.

At the same time, Michael had lost the fight against Butcher. He was getting suffocated by the huge man's palm, and there wasn't a damn thing Natalie could do to stop it.

Out of sheer desperation, she sprinted towards him, straight towards the berserker that stood in her path. Josie armed her blade like a baseball player, grinning widely at the prey that was entering her range. There was no way Natalie would get past her, no way she would live another second.

"Michael!!"

In a moment, the battle was decided. Following her instincts, Josie swung her blade. However, it was not at Natalie that she swung it, but at an arrow that was flying towards her own head.

At the same time, Bluntcoat's barrier activated, shielding him from a second arrow. A third one hit the hand with which Butcher held his hatchet. A fourth hit his back and finally, the fifth, sixth, and seventh arrows all lodged themselves into the killer's unusually thick skull.

All of these arrows were shot using the warrior's breath. Every last one of them was reinforced by the magic stone in Finn's bow.

The mass murderer's eyes rolled in their sockets and he started collapsing on top of the unconscious Michael. Fortunately, Tommy ran into him and pushed the dying bastard off of his friend.

The Butcher’s was dead, but Michael's fate was still in question. He was bleeding profusely, and there was no way of knowing whether he was even breathing or not.

"Help!" shouted Tommy as his friends rushed towards him. Finn left the safety of the pile of snakes, and Natalie abandoned any chance she might have had at damaging Josie.

"Stay where you are, boy," said Bluntcoat.

"Natalie, take back your sword!"

Hearing this, Tommy pulled the rapier out of the butcher's throat and threw it at Natalie. The girl caught it while getting shot in her left arm. Josie tried to cut her in half, but a flying arrow forced her to defend.

Using the warrior's breath, Finn reached Michael's location in a matter of seconds. By then, Tommy had placed the gloves on Michael's palms, but nothing was happening.

Bluntcoat rained bullets towards them, which Finn cut down with his knives.

"Natalie, keep him busy!"

"As if that's possible, boy."

"Shut the fuck up!" With Josie hot on her tail, Natalie jumped on Bluntcoat's barrier and pushed herself towards her friends. Then, once she reached the middle spot between her allies and her foes, she stopped.

"Terrible plan," Bluntcoat laughed.

Josie attacked immediately while he rained bullets on her body. Forced to dodge the giant blade while also cutting down the bullets, Natalie was slowly being chopped to bits.

Behind her, Finn gave Tommy his broken longsword and grabbed one of the gloves.

"Cut off my arm on three," he ordered. "One." Finn canceled his warrior's breath. "Two." He sent a huge amount of mana from his arm into the glove, bursting his cells to their core and ripping through his flesh. "Three!"

As soon as the boy's skin turned red and a creepy, otherworldly eye opened up where his elbow used to be, Tommy sliced his arm clean off, right from the shoulder. He then smacked Michael's gloves together which released a burst of light.

Immediately, Michael's wounds closed up and the boy's chest filled with air. There was so much mana pushed into the gloves that even his arm was restored a little bit past the elbow.

"Block any incoming bullets," said Finn before reactivating the warrior's breath.

Natalie was dying before his very eyes. There was a huge cut on her chest, and her left arm had lost half of its fingers. One of her ears was cut in half, and there was a pool of blood gathering at her feet.

If not for the warrior's breath mending her wounds and increasing blood production, the girl would have long since collapsed.

Josie's swings, on the other hand, were growing more and more erratic. Her skin was red, she was frothing at the mouth, and her eyes looked unfocused. Behind her, Bluntcoat was shooting bullets in rapid succession with a worried look.

"Stubborn fools. Josie, retreat!"

However, there was no talking to the girl. Even when the one armed Finn caught up and started slashing at her legs, Josie was relentless. Even when the two teens coordinated their attacks and managed to cut through her shoulder, Josie shrugged it off and kept swinging.

"Shit. I'll shoot you yet, mock my words, you church going bastards!"

In spite of his words, Bluntcoat was slowly falling back. Eventually, he completely turned tail and ran towards one of the tunnels. He shot a few more rounds to support Josie, but after his barrel was empty, he simply gave up and ran.

"One more push,” said Finn while swinging his knife.

"Let’s go."

Natalie dodged the next blow of the giant blade and pushed her rapier forward towards Josie's throat. At the same time, Finn went low and closed the distance.

Josie leaned back and swung her sword. She managed to push Natalie back, but Finn cut her right leg almost clean in half. Due to the warrior's breath being activated to an extreme, the wound started rapidly healing.

However, the duo attacked once again, inflicting another cut, then another, and another.

In the next few minutes, more and more wounds accumulated on Josie's body, overwhelming her warrior’s breath and making her expression turn from madness to fear.

"S-stop," she muttered while attacking Finn. She lost a finger during the exchange.

"Stop…" she whispered a little louder as Natalie's rapier pierced through her lungs.

"Stop!!" The girl suddenly shouted at the top of her lungs. With teary eyes and a face full of despair, she swung the sword from above as if trying to cut through her fear.

Natalie dodged to the left and Finn to the right. They both cut one of her arms clean off.

As the giant sword collapsed to the ground, Josie started saying something, however, she did not finish her sentence. Both the rapier and the knife cut into her throat at the same time. The berserker bunny's head went flying, and while sporting a look of disbelief and panic, it rolled on the ground and then stopped.
