A Knight, A Demon (Namet)
“Somebody tell me why we’re running?” Kon asked, zipping along the side of us.
“Were you half asleep or something!? We’re late to the damn orientation!” Dust yelled.
“It’s called an introduction!” Shiro yelled back.
“Shut up! I don’t need you to correct me! If you have the brainpower to correct me, run faster!”
“That’s not how brainpower works, you idiot!”
“What do you think magic is?!”
“...Fair!”
“Both of you shut up and run faster!” Achilles yelled back. He floated on a green cloud, going just slightly faster than us. We all ran a little bit faster.
“Why the hell don’t we have a buffer?!” Dust lamented.
“Ah, come to think of it, I could probably do that,” Angelica noted.
“THEN TRY IT, FOR GOD’S SAKE!” Dust shouted at her.
“Here goes nothing, then…”
Green mana wisped through the air, wrapping around itself and over the running figures.
I breathed in, and it felt as if ice coursed into my lungs. I breathed out, and my breath steamed in the warm air. My body felt revitalized, and my legs moved faster.
The ground under me flew by.
We overtook Achilles in just a few seconds and continued running.
If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.
“At that pace, you might be able to barge in once the introduction is halfway done!” Achilles laughed, provoking us to run faster.
Eventually, we got there, out of breath and quite tired.
“You guys missed most of it. Luckily it wasn’t that important. It was just talking about the history of the school, at least for what I’ve been here for.” Eru informed us.
“If you’re fast enough to basically teleport over here, then why couldn’t have carried some of us over here? At the very least, you could’ve taken Kon. He’s really pissed that he’s had to put in as much effort as he did.” Dust violently whispered.
“I didn’t think of that.” Eru looked like he’d been enlightened.
“You have no idea how much I want to punch you right now,” Kon muttered, a deadly rage in those languid eyes.
I chuckled quietly.
“Dust?” A feminine voice called out, quiet.
“Luna?” Dust replied, his voice seemingly entertained.
I looked over. The tiny princess that I’d heard about from Dust’s backstory stood there, and looked me in the eye. She couldn’t have been more than a foot away from me.
“Who’re these people?” She asked, but not in an offensive tone.
How cute.
The little princess held herself in a dignified way that just oozed innocence and cuteness.
“She looks so innocent,” Alissa commented.
I wrapped an arm around her and pulled her to my chest.
As soon as I did that, I felt something. It wrapped around my heart, closing in and crushing it. The room went silent, or perhaps I just couldn’t hear it over the blood that pounded in my ears.
I looked over, and a monster stared me down. I felt so… insignificant. Those red eyes seemed to glow.
A hand reached out, and gripped my wrist. A chill shot through me, and I felt the presence of something other than a human grab a hold of me.
I tossed the princess aside, hoping she wouldn’t get hurt.
“Gen.” A voice stated. Nothing else. Just the name, but it seemed to carry the importance of the world.
Lightning coursed through the air, and congealed into the elemental I knew just in time to catch Luna.
I stood there, my wrist in the grip of a monster, while everyone just watched, and didn’t try to help me.
No, I’m not sure that’s right. Perhaps it’s more accurate to say they couldn’t help me.
After all, I was staring Death in the face.
A moment passed, and I opened my eyes.
“Huh? What happened?” I asked, no longer feeling the presence of the monster that I had just confronted.
“Oh, good, you’re awake. It’s time for class, you know?” Dust laughed.
He held out a hand, and I took it for him to help me up. Dust and a few small rocks fell off of me as I got up, and I beat my clothes off a little bit to get what else I could off.
I turned around, and looked behind me.
The wall was crushed. It was as if somebody had hit it with a meteor. I felt the same fear I had felt yesterday.
“By the way…” Dust spoke.
“Don’t fucking touch her again.”
