Chapter 2: Namet

Getting to Know Eachother (Namet)

We talked with the headmaster for quite a while, before beginning to talk amongst ourselves, learning about the backstories and such of each other, and our companions that we’ve gained so far.

Achilles, Alissa, and the Empress all sat back silently, listening to our stories and conversations without much commentation, except for a select few places where they corrected their story.

“So, what was it like, living with the Empress?” Dust asked, a hint of envy in his eyes as he glanced back at her.

“Well, it was quite entertaining. She had some very comfy couches…” Shiro’s gaze shot up at that, boring holes in Gen.

“You should invite me over sometime.” His voice was deadly serious.

“If the Empress agrees~.” He teased.

“Angelica, what happened to Ren, Aurora, and Axel?” Sei asked.

“They split up from me a bit earlier. I’m sure we’ll see them at some point. Ren wanted to be a teacher here, after all. Axel will probably become a student, as well. Aurora refused it, though.” Angelica mentioned.

“It’s good to know that they’re safe. I feared the worst when they suddenly disappeared. Astrid might meet up with them, too.” Sei sighed in relief.

“Other than that, didn’t you have a companion too, Namet?” Angelica asked me.

“Ah, Loki? Yeah, we split up earlier. I gave her something, though, just in case she gets in trouble or lost or something.” I mentioned.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

“Ufufu… such a worrywart.” Dust laughed.

“Just like a mother.” Sei agreed.

“Bah, shut up.” I scoffed.

It’s interesting. Around these 12, I can feel emotions. Just slightly, though.

“So, what class did we get again? I forgot.” Dust asked.

“Wasn’t it Class 5B?” Eru suggested.

“Nah, I thought it was 4B?” Sei offered.

“Eh? Wasn’t it 3A?” Shiro asked.

“I mean… I thought it was G6, so…” I trailed off.

“That’s a song, you idiot.” Dust remarked.

“I thought the song was Kyoko?” Shiro asked.

“You all are idiots! You were all assigned to 1S.” Alissa yelled.

“““Ah, that does make sense.””” A few of us synced.

“...So was the song named Kyoko?” Shiro asked.

“Actually, it might’ve been. Everybody called it ‘like a G6’ though. I don’t know if that’s even the song’s name.” Eru commented.

“At least give me closure…” Shiro moaned.

“Haha! The world is always against closure! Everybody loves leaving a little something to worry about!” Sei laughed.

“I don’t!” Shiro shouted.

We merrily continued talking about whatever came up as we calmly walked along to 1S.

“Woot! We found the classroom!” Kon hollered, before zipping in and slamming into one of the chairs, lying his head on the table.

“So… Why did we come here?” Sera asked.

Nobody answered for a moment. It would seem that we didn’t know.

“Wasn’t it just to find the classroom?” Alissa mentioned.

“I’m so glad we have a designated rememberer...” Shiro commented.

“Ah, but if it’s just that, then…” Dust began, before walking off to one of the tables.

He placed his palm on it, and it glowed a light blue. When he pulled his hand up, his handprint remained for a second or more, before it disappeared.

“I can just mark it.” He ended, seeming proud.

“Oh? How’d you do that?” Yuu asked. “That’s the basics of arteficing.”

“Is it? I just kinda wanted to put a tracker on the desk, so I just willed my mana to do so.” Dust brushed it off.

“Ah, I did it too.” Kon casually mentioned.

Shiro walked up to another table and placed his hand on it.

“Oh, it really isn’t that much mana, either.” He mentioned.

One by one, we all placed our hands on a table, marking them.

“You guys really are strange, aren’t you…” Achilles’s voice was soft as he gazed upon the fading handprints.

“““What are you talking about? Call us anomalies.”””
