Recovery

The sky darkened, and it was already past the visiting hours. A nurse had come in to remind them. Saffron frowned, and Dawn said, “You do not have to spend so much time here, Saffie. I will be fine in a few days. It would be best if you went back home. Your parents must be worried.”

Saffron sighed and said, “Somedays, I envy you.”

Dawn shook his head and said, “You should cherish your time with them, Saffie. You realize their true value only when you lose someone you love.”

Saffron gazed at the young man for a prolonged second and said grumpily, “Why are you acting all grown up now? You know I offered you some tissues when you cried the other day?”

Dawn looked at her and chuckled. He watched Saffron walk out of the ward, and then he lay back on the bed. Dawn closed his eyes and thought about his situation. He was now in the city of Spring Dale in Fortune Nation.

In this world, there were martial artists. Dawn knew all this from his memories but did not know if there were cultivators. The number of martial artists was very low. One in a hundred might be able to practice, but the level of these people was not worth mentioning.

Dawn sighed, “What a mess!”

He shook his head before standing and walking up to the window. Dawn looked at the scenery of this world for the first time. The road outside was illuminated with lights, and a car would pass every once in a while. Dawn smiled faintly and said, “Humans sure know how to use their brains.”

He took in a deep breath and looked up at the moon. Dawn turned off the room’s lights, sat under the moonlight pouring in from the window in a lotus position, and closed his eyes to sense the spiritual energy. Before training his body, the young man needed to see if this world had spiritual energy.

Dawn was known for his massive growth potential and speedy cultivation in the immortal realm. He was not bashful about his achievement. On the contrary, Dawn could be the most arrogant person under the heavens. He did not mind going against the heavens and facing the lightning tribulation at fifteen.

He was not unreasonable, but he never changed his decisions. At this moment, even when he had nothing left, he was sure he would not give in and rise to the peak of this world. The never-back-down mindset of the Heavenly Prince came from the depth of his soul.

To Dawn, the most peaceful place in the world was the peak of chaos. After a few minutes, Dawn sensed a gentle breeze around him. A smile appeared on his face as he absorbed the breeze. This world had spiritual energy, but it was scarce.

The young man took a deep breath and thought, ‘The road ahead is very long.’

Opening his eyes, Dawn assumed a horse stance, raised his hands before him, and extended them parallel to the ground. He shifted his weight forward and raised his heels. He stood on his toes and closed his eyes.

While in this stance, Dawn began to run spiritual energy through his body. He was using the technique that he received from his father. This technique was one of the strongest ones practiced by humans. It was called the Nine Turns Of Heaven Sutra.

Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.

Dawn patiently gathered the spirit energy from the surroundings over his acupoints. As time passed, he slowly channeled the energy inside his acupoints. The process was slightly painful, like a needle moving through his skin. However, it did not make any difference for Dawn. He had tempered his body with lightning in the past. Compared to that, this was akin to a soft touch.

Dawn slowly reached the end of a cycle. He opened his eyes to check the time and found that it had been only 30 minutes. He pursed his lips, but it was his first time cultivating this body, and he dared not be flashy. This body was akin to a blank papyrus sheet; slight exertion would cause it to crumble.

After half an hour of horse stance, his legs were numb. Dawn bent his waist and placed his hands on the ground. Then he shifted his weight slowly to his hands and used the spirit energy to relieve his legs. A few minutes later, he sensed incredible pain coming from his legs.

Although he did not scream, he winced before raising his legs and standing on his hands. Dawn began circulating the spiritual energy through his skin one more time.

It was the first level of the body-tempering realm in cultivation. The early stage would require Dawn to temper his skin, the medium stage would require him to temper his muscles and bones, and the late stage would be when he tempers his organs with spiritual energy.

Dawn was not in a hurry with this initial phase. The various stances he performed throughout the night helped him greatly. Accumulation of the years filled the physique of a mortal with impurities. He could not clean them all in one go, but the slightly thicker sweat indicated that his stances were working.

It was almost sunrise when Dawn stood up from the ground and opened his eyes. He exhaled heavily and flexed his body a little. Despite cultivating the whole night, he was not tired in the slightest. The nourishment of spiritual energy could enable people to skip food, let alone sleep.

Dawn continued cultivating and went to the bathroom. When he came out, he found Saffron sitting on the couch with several textbooks stacked on the table before her. He asked, “Saffie, you came so early?”

Saffron raised her head and was stunned momentarily before saying, “Good morning. Yeah, I came early to hand you these few textbooks. You will stay in the hospital for a day, and given how big of a nerd you are, these books are better.”

Dawn smiled and nodded. He could use these books to learn some knowledge of this world. Although he had some recollection in his memories, those remnant memories focused on his life’s important facts.

Saffron continued after he responded with a nod, “I will be looking into Trevor as well. Do not worry.”

Dawn nodded and said, “Do it carefully. Do not lose your temper.”

Saffron rolled her eyes, then stood with a textbook and said, “I have arranged for someone to deliver food. He will be here in a bit. I am getting late for something. See you at noon.”

Dawn nodded and waved his hand as the girl walked out of the room. He found the culture and the ease of this world very nice. Curiously, Dawn picked up the textbooks and began to read. The memories of the original owner began restoring as he read. Dawn was surprised to see that the humans in the lower realm had such theories.

He finished reading five out of seven textbooks in just a few hours. As he closed the last book, a burly middle-aged man pushed open the door and entered the room.

Dawn raised his head and stood up from the couch. He was wearing a patient’s green shirt and pants. The burly man wore a black suit. He nodded to Dawn and placed a parcel on the table as he said, “I am Jack. Miss Chu asked me to deliver this food to you.”

Dawn nodded and replied, “Thank you. I apologize for the trouble.”

The man shook his head, ran his gaze around the place, and said, “I will be going now. Hope you feel better.”

Dawn nodded and watched the man leave. He opened the parcel and ate the food sent by Saffron. Dawn was eight years old when he stopped eating because he had stepped into the golden core realm, and spiritual energy alone was enough to give him the energy he needed.

As the young man tasted food, he could not help but praise the people who cooked it. After eating, he patted his tummy in satisfaction and sat down on the ground to cultivate. Dawn was sure that his enemy would move against him, and this time, he did not wish to suffer in silence but procure evidence to ensure that the enemy could not get away.

So, he had to focus on cultivation and get stronger as soon as possible.
