Chapter 3 - A new world

POV Logan

I wandered through the majestic corridors of the castle, which stretched across an impressive expanse. Every square inch seemed saturated with luxury, captivating my gaze with every step. The sumptuous tapestries, exquisite floral arrangements, and magnificent paintings adorning the walls transported me to a world of visual beauty.

For a brief moment, as I stood near a window, I could contemplate the vastness of the courtyard outside, with its carefully maintained paths and lush flower beds forming a living tableau. The garden, of unsuspected splendor, appeared to be an oasis of serenity amidst this opulent grandeur.

My exploration came to an end when I arrived at the grand castle gate, which was finally opened for me by the guards who pushed me out forcefully.

"You're lucky the king has forgiven you for your disrespect," declared a soldier.

Once they had escorted me out, they immediately closed the massive gate. I had been promptly cast aside as soon as it became clear that I was of no use to them. I suspected they wouldn't hesitate with others if they were deemed incompetent or not up to par. The only person I worried about the most was Maïli, but she was a smart girl, and I had to have faith in her and wish her the best.

So, I began walking towards the path to the town while opening my status at the same time because the information marked intrigued me.

Seeing my profession, I clicked on it, and an auxiliary window opened:

The Avenger is the protector of the oppressed and the champion of the victims of this world. Moving from town to town, constantly seeking wrongs to right and dictators to overthrow. Despite the obsession with revenge and punishment, the Avenger is not a cruel or sadistic being, and their vengeance is tempered by the crimes that have been committed.

Reading my profession, I found it a bit odd, but curious, I also looked at the only skills I had:

Allows control of anything touched using calculation abilities. For example, it can redirect received attacks back at the attacker and change the circulation of blood. Instead of creating a vector from scratch, you modify it. This power is versatile both offensively and defensively. (Operation requires calculation stats) (Due to your low level and calculation stats, using Vector Control will consume mana if you exceed your calculation power.)

This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

You learn and assimilate at lightning speed.

You possess all the knowledge of your former world.

"Vector Control, this ability can prove to be extremely powerful. Furthermore, it says 'exclusive ability,' which means only I possess it. I'll have to quickly find a way to master it since it's currently my only weapon. Aside from that, Ultra Rapid Learning and Encyclopedia can also be very useful. But the most important thing for now is to earn money quickly." (Logan)

Finally arriving in town, I was immediately struck by its liveliness. The cobblestone streets were bustling with people, offering a true mosaic of faces, cultures, and activities. Colorful stalls lined both sides of the streets, while wandering merchants added to the excitement by offering a multitude of enticing products.

The buildings themselves were architectural gems, with their red tile roofs and brilliant white walls. Some of them even featured wooden frames, creating a fascinating blend of styles. Every building and street seemed to have been meticulously designed, creating a visual harmony that transported passersby to another time.

At the center of the town, the royal castle stood majestically, its towering impressive walls cutting into the sky. Its grandeur and imposing aura were breathtaking, reminding me of how different this world was from the modern structures of my own world. Discovering this new world was both captivating and bewildering, an adventure full of surprises and wonders. It made me realize that I was embarking on an entirely new world with endless possibilities.

It was imperative for me to refocus my thoughts now, although the temptation to explore such a vast and beautiful town tugged at me. My first concern was to find an immediate way to earn money because I didn't want to spend the night out in the open. I vaguely remembered some stories I had read about being transported to another world, and one of the methods for earning money seemed to involve monster hunting.

Hunting hostile creatures and selling them to the guild was a common means of livelihood. Perhaps the guild offered paid tasks to daring adventurers as well. With this idea in mind, I decided to stop a passerby and ask a few questions.

"Excuse me, do you know where I could hunt low-level monsters?" (Logan)

"No, I'm not an adventurer, but you could ask the Guild for that information." (Passerby)

"Could you please point me in the direction of the guild then?" (Logan)

After obtaining the valuable directions from the passerby, I continued my walk. A few minutes later, I found myself in front of an imposing two-story building that left me speechless. The building stood out with its yellow stone walls and a roof adorned with blue tiles, a color combination that exuded undeniable elegance.

Upon entering, I immediately felt the curious and scrutinizing gazes of those already present. My clothing, clearly different from that of the locals, seemed to pique their interest, even their perplexity. However, I remained undaunted, focused on my quest. I headed towards what appeared to be the reception desk, where several receptionists were stationed, ready to guide adventurers in search of work. I randomly chose one of them, eager to begin my new life in this strange world.

"Hello, how can I assist you?" asked a beautiful receptionist with yellow hair and eyes.

"May I know where I can hunt low-level monsters?" (Logan)

"Well, you can go hunting for monsters just beyond the city's outskirts in the small forest on the outskirts of town. They are usually very weak and perfect for beginner adventurers." (Receptionist)

"What kinds of monsters are there?" (Logan)

"It could be Slimes, Goblins, and Wolves, all low-level creatures." (Receptionist)

"Thank you." (Logan)

After leaving the city, whose limits were marked by an impressive white wall, I headed towards the small forest as directed. However, once I reached the entrance, I chose not to venture in immediately. I wasn't equipped for combat, and I still didn't know how to use my skills in this unfamiliar world.

Instead, I decided it was time to conduct some tests to better understand my abilities. I took a moment to consider how I could learn to master my skills before facing the potential challenges of the forest. This caution seemed necessary to avoid putting myself in unnecessary danger.

"To move my arms or legs, it's instinctive for humans, so shouldn't it be the same for skills?" (Logan)

Intrigued by my new abilities, I began my experiment. I crouched down and placed my hands on the ground. I closed my eyes and mentally visualized the ground rising to form a wall. In barely a second after having this thought, I felt an electric current run through my entire body, as if my brain were executing a series of complex calculations at breakneck speed. To my great surprise, a wall materialized instantly, rising abruptly from the ground. Then I checked my status, and I hadn't lost any mana.

"In conclusion, as long as I don't exceed my calculation power, which is 100, I won't consume mana. And my skill also allows me to redirect and deflect attacks. I suppose that since I don't yet master my skill, I'll be limited; I can only deflect an attack if I see it coming. But in the future, I could deflect any attack unconsciously, in automatic mode, and the more I increase my calculation abilities, the more powerful this ability will become. My defense could become impenetrable, and my attacks devastating." (Logan)

I smiled, excitement and adrenaline building up in me like a child receiving a new toy. My eyes gleamed with enthusiasm as I feverishly surveyed the surroundings. In the distance, my eyes landed on a towering tree, a perfect target to test my new skills.

"Let's try this." (Logan)

I approached the wall I had previously created and, concentrating my will, determined what I wanted to achieve. Suddenly, as if to answer my request, the wall exploded into a multitude of debris. My target was clearly defined, and rock fragments were propelled at lightning speed before hitting the ground, creating a cloud of dust and smoke.

When the smoke cleared, the tree I had aimed at had a massive hole in its trunk. Unable to support its own weight, the majestic tree finally collapsed with a dull rumble. The satisfaction of my success and the potential of my powers in this new world filled me with renewed energy, paving the way for an exciting and mysterious adventure.

[Calculation power used: 100]

As my body trembled with excitement, my gaze then turned to the forest where the monsters awaited.

"Well, it's time to go hunting now!" (Logan)
