Chapter 29 - Consequences

Chapter 29 - Consequences

In the aftermath of the tragedy, this event was dubbed the Nires catastrophe. The death toll among civilians and soldiers was astronomical. Not to mention the death of a man, a great man well known in the capital.

Elias was a man who, through his past actions as an adventurer, had been recruited by the kingdom itself. And who was subsequently entrusted with the direction of the protection of the city of Nires.

This man who today made it possible to hold back the monsters a little longer. If he had not sacrificed himself, the result would have been the complete annihilation of the city and its inhabitants.

While the ruined city was still smoking, the collection of bodies had begun. In order to bury the victims and return the bodies to the families. Multiple corpses had come out of the rubble, all of them completely charred. And that was the ones that were in the best condition because for some unfortunately, there was almost nothing left.

The monsters had devoured them without restraint, scattering blood and entrails in many places. Some of the corpses didn't even have faces anymore. You could see eyes hanging out and jaws being ripped out. While the purpose of this collection was to return the bodies to the family. The bodies for the most part could not even be identified. Some of the bodies even disappeared completely, turned to ash in the explosion.

The news of the catastrophe had spread quickly throughout the kingdom and far beyond. The breaking of a dungeon had never happened before, it was a first on the whole continent of Astra.

A few days later, the group of Melody was then heard by the court of the King. Where they are detailed the event in detail. From their ascent in the tower to the collapse of the dungeon.

They then described the three weeks after their entry and the appearance of very weak tremors. They didn't pay any attention to them because they were so trivial. After a few weeks they beat the first boss on the 20th floor. It was a normal troll with armor and a large axe.

Shortly afterwards, they said they felt tremors, this time a little stronger. And throughout their ascent they did not pay attention to it. While these little shakes were more and more repetitive but still very small. Until they finally reached the 30th floor where they beat the second boss.

The tremors after a few more weeks became stronger. This time if was noticeable and the group started to ask questions. But since no danger or event seemed to occur, they continued their ascent. They didn't report the event to the guild, because leaving the dungeon meant having to go back up all the floors one by one. And of course face all the monsters again.

But they nevertheless took the time to note in a small notebook, the time that the shocks lasted and their power. But also note that some monsters were more than they expected. And in particular the appearance of mutation of low magnitude. Like high red goblins or black spider soldiers.

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

The average shaking continued and became a routine for them.

Until the fateful day of the event, when they reached the 47th floor, the dungeon began to shake violently for several minutes. Before stopping and then starting again even more violently. Signaling at this precise moment its complete collapse. The monsters inside move in groups through the floors.

Then, once the dungeon was destroyed, Melodie noticed that some of the monsters had evolved abruptly. Some spiders had evolved into generals and some into queens and some goblin into goblin generals. Once the report was finished a quick and obvious conclusion was made mixed with hypotheses.

The first signs of a dungeon collapse are characterized by gradual and repeated vibrations. The dungeon broke down 1 month after the first vibrations. And they started in the 4th month of the dungeon's life. The stronger the vibrations, the more the dungeon reaches its breaking point. The breakage of the dungeon causes the evolution or mutation of certain monsters.

If the floor bosses are defeated, they do not leave the dungeon. Nevertheless, an assumption was made the Lich at the base was not a Lich. But a superior undead who had evolved into a Lich. This is what little he had been able to establish, the information had then been passed on to everyone. To warn as soon as possible of the near breakage of a dungeon to avoid this kind of disaster again.

The adventurers were warmly thanked for their action and a tribute was paid to Elias. His body was exhumed in a great event in the capital punctuated by a speech from the king.

"First of all I would like to thank everyone here. As you know, some time ago a terrible disaster struck one of our cities.

Nevertheless, even if the losses and damages were catastrophic, we were able to avoid the worst. All thank to one man and his sacrifice, which you have come to honor today. Elias was a great man, despite the threat of death hanging over his shoulders. He fought with pride and honor, in order to defend the city under his protection. His unwavering devotion made him commit the ultimate act of sacrifice. In the face of a gigantic army of monsters he gave his life and saved a great number of citizens." (King)

While the crowd listened silently and respectfully to the king's speech. Zem was in the crowd holding his late brother's young daughter whose tears could not be held back. Mourning the death of her father but also her mother. Cynthia, now an orphan, had been taken in by Zem. The young girl now under his care, he was going to take care of her and take care of her education. And make sure that she lacked nothing.

But for the king and the other kingdoms this catastrophe had given rise to an immediate need to defend themselves from these catastrophes. The invocation of Heroes from another world to have a new armed force at their disposal.

While in a very bright and divine looking place a man spoke.

"Oh my goddess, it will soon be time for us to ask for your divine powers. May you have mercy on us." (???)

"I will help you summon your heroes when the time comes. Now broom your presence annoys me to no end!" (Goddess)

"Yes my goddess." (???)

The man then withdrew, as the space around him returned to normal. And his hands that were joined in prayer separated. It was in a gigantic room with multiple rows of benches. And of a decoration more than luxurious, with a dominant blue color accompanied by pure white and gilded finery.

"How was your brief interview with the goddess Pope Horgos?" (???)

"It was short but she will help us if everything goes well. But what about our little project? (Horgos)

"It's coming along. (???)

"Well, I'm sure the goddess will be pleased with our actions." Said he with a satisfied look.
