The Request

As Nerys bumps into the maid she apologizes to her. She was always nice towards everyone equally even though she has a royal status.

"Apologies princess!" The maid apologizes, but the girl quickly cuts her off.

"No it's okay don't worry." She smiles and reassures the maid, under a tighter rule this could easily lead to punishment, no matter if it was an accident or not.

"Oh, glad i remembered, your father wanted to talk to you after your practice princess! Would not want to maker him wait."

"Thank you for mentioning!" The girl nods and takes a deep sigh. As the maid goes on her way through the corridor, Nerys also starts to walk to the throne room. She shortly reaches it, as her room is not too far, she walks down the steps and walks up to her father who's sitting, holding his head deep in thought.

The girl politely bows and his father gives a little laugh and stands up from his throne. The girl is looking at him with her eyes as she keeps the bowing stance as he slowly walks up to her he stops.

"You're making fun of me??" He laughs loudly joking with his daughter as she starts laughing too and returns to a normal posture.

He puts his hands on her shoulder and asks. "So, how did my little warrior's training go? Did you finally beat that fool Zilion?" He says in a joking manner.

"As a matter of fact... i sure did father!" She smiles proudly as her father looks at her in disbelief.

"You did? Do i need to get you a new teacher?" They both slightly laugh, and his father looks longly in her eyes.

"So, what shall be your position? What is your style?" He asks curiously waiting her answer.

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

"That is actually something we need to talk about, father. Zillion told me, the Dragon style would suit me the best."

His father puts his hands at his side and paces around. He stops and turns his head towards the princess.

"So you want to learn the arts?" He asks in a quiet manner, showing a slight disgust while his eyes show proudness.

"I think so father. If Zillion thinks that's what suits me, he must be right." The girl tries to reason with her father.

"Do you have any idea what is that kind of power? The daughter of an emperor? Heavens forbid they might call you a witch!" The father raises his voice slightly as he walks up to the princess as she lowers her head.

"I want to discuss this with Zillion further, there must be another style that suits you." The father lowers his voice and puts his hands back on her shoulders trying to reassure her.

"He said he will mention it to you, did not say when unfortunately." Nerys looks up at him and gets a little relieved. All this just made her even more curious about the Dragon style, but she did not want to push it even further.

The emperor walks back to his throne and sits down. He takes a deep sigh as he thinks deeply.

"They say the dark times are coming my daughter. Who knows what will it be like? The beasts have been gone for a while, but people did not forget them. Rumors have been circulating that The Brave Ones already began their hunt, i sent them a messenger, but who knows if they will respond?"

The girl fiddles with her fingers as she opens her mouth to say something her father cuts him off.

"No better time for you to get to know the arts better." He says and sighs, knowing there is no turning back now. He sits straight and continues.

"Tomorrow you will go to Serene, she will teach you Way of the Shadows, if you have any questions you ask her. But no practicing in the city, or in the palace. And don't get into trouble, the Arts are not as easy to control as you might think. And to use it in the middle of battle? You better get some sleep right away girl." He said in a strict voice, as the girl smiled bright, but trying to make herself seem serious.

"Yes father, thank you." She turns and smiles as she walks away, her father looks at her proudly and thinks to himself.

"Maybe the dreamers were right, you hold great powers Nerys, i hope you use them for good."
