First of all, sorry for the late chapter.

I have been busy and i am taking your suggestions to my mind.

There are some changes and informations that i want to inform first:   

1. I am using indonesian, malaysian, chinese, japanese, mongolian, thai names for many eastern continent except the elves.

2. I will also use western name like skandinavian, roman, greek, egyptian, russian, german, spanish, italian for some races and western continent.

3. I apologize if anyone is offended, i have no wish to offend any race, i am just bad at names and cultures so i borrow from what is available.

4. I might also use arabian, incan, mayan, etc names. As always i am no racist i just in need for names.

5. I hate tables so i am cutting out the tables. Hope you don't mind.    .

As always, please inform me any suggestions and critics, this is my first fanfic.

I will edit my next chapters according to the suggestions (more or less detail, different style of conversation, etc)

And if you like mushoku tensei, you will notice my similarity with mushoku tensei but no, the story line is very much different than mushoku tensei. It will feel very very similar since i am indeed borrowing heavily from mushoku tensei for early chapters.

I have no proof reader yet and english is not my native language so i am apologizing for my bad grammar.

Chapter 5: On to Avalon

In the morning after breakfast, I exercise a bit (Push up and sit up) and then we go to the library.

It is very close to the inn, maybe 5 minutes walking distance.

Serin = “Morning Lyall, how are you doing?”

Lyall = “Hi serin, I heard you finally show up. I am good here. Is this your student?”

Serin = “My, how quick the gossip spread in this town. Yes, he is Bryson, my student.”

Me = “Good morning sir Lyall, nice to meet you.”

Lyall = “Stop those sir, I am no noble. Call me Lyall. I guess you need a library card huh.”

Serin = “Yes Lyall, this kid is quite a bookworm. He doesn’t have photographic memory like you though.”

Me = “You have photographic memory? Wow that’s awesome.”

Lyall = “It’s no big deal but it helps a lot if you are running a library. Here, fill this form, I will make you a library card free of charge.”

Serin = “Thanks Lyall.”

Me = “Thanks Lyall.”

I fill in the data like my name, DOB, father, mother, referral, etc.

Lyall = “Good, here is your card.”

Serin = “But it is a gold card like mine lyall. It cost a lot.”

Lyall = “No problem, I like your student after all.”

Me = “Thanks a lot Lyall. What is a gold card anyway?”

Lyall = “Oh Serin didn’t tell you? For the librarian guild, we have iron, bronze, silver, gold, platinum and unlimited. You can only access floor according to your card level. You can raise your level by donating gold, donating books or doing quests for us. Serin has done a lot of quests for us in here. I can only issue gold card though, for platinum and unlimited you need to go to capital city.”

Me = “I see thank you very much Lyall. I am very lucky to have Serin as my teacher.”

Serin = “Of course you are, can I leave him to you Lyall? I need to meet a few friends in the city. I have packed a lunch for him too.”

Lyall = “Of course Serin. Come with me lad, I will show you my favorite books.”

I spent the rest of the day with Lyall. He is a good guy, I think he is around 60 or more? He has white hair and beard. He is very talk active with me in the vip room though. I guess the poor guy is lonely. Surprisingly, I get a [Photographic Memory] skill at the end of the day. Thanks to Genius Mind for sure. I wonder what other skill I can copy from Genius Mind.

I spent the week in the library, trying to finish the huge collection of books before departing to Avalon. I pick up a few skills from the library:

1.       [Ancient Languages] = Increase Chance to learn ancient languages.

2.       [Diagnose] = Able to diagnose a person’s condition and sickness. Warning : Low level is prone to mistakes.

3.       [Map Making] = Able to discern landscape and putting them on a map.

I also increase my intelligent from all the reading in the library.

Night time is always difficult for me… I have an adult mind after all.

Finally it is the day when our ship is scheduled to leave for Avalon.

Serin = “After we arrive in Avalon, you have officially graduated from my teaching. I can say that I am proud to have you as my first student. I believe you will be able to outclass me soon.”

Me = “It is because I have excellent teacher.”

Smiling Serin says = “And a good manner also. I also have several gifts for you.”

She gives me a stick made with a rare wood and enchanted to amplify my magic, a leather armor suit to protect me and a cloak to make me less noticeable. Needless to say I am very grateful for her gifts.

Me = “Thank you very much sensei. You are too generous.”

Serin = “No need to be so formal with me, now let’s say goodbye to Miranda and Lyall and go to our boat.”

Me = “Yes sensei.”

We say our goodbye to Miranda and Lyall and leave for our boat. It is quite a big boat and can fill in more than 100 people on board. I also share my cabin with Serin with me having more difficulties to sleep at night.

The first morning in the boat, I see two hooded people in the boat, one big and one child throwing up to the sea. Lucky I have eaten my pill so I don’t have to suffer from seasickness too much. Feeling pity I approach them.

Me = “Hi, my name is Bryson. I see that you are having… difficulties with the sea. I have some pills to lessen the effect. Would you like them?”

I took my pills out in my hand but as soon as they turned their eyes to me, I jumped back in fright since those eyes are predator eyes.

With a blur, they took my pills and swallow them. Wow, they must be very desperate to eat a random pill from a random person.

(Or they might see a child is no threat?)

Once I regain my composure, I can see they are fox demons. One adult and one child. Both of them are females and very cute. The adult one has white furs while the child one has golden fur.

After a while they look much better, the adult one talk to me:

Yumiko = “Thank you Bryson, my name is Yumiko and this is Himiko. We never travel by boat before so we have been suffering for all night. Forgive us but we would like to rest for now. I would thank you properly tomorrow for your wonderful medicine.”

Me = “No problem, I hope you get better. This vial is filled with my seasickness pills, please take them once a day.”

Yumiko = “Thank you again, now please excuse us.”

Poor foxes, they seem to suffer a lot. Remembering what I intend to do, I begin my morning exercise. When my teacher appears, I tell her about my meeting.

Serin = “Hmm, from what you describe, the big one probable one of the white fox demon. The little one is a probably a rare golden fox demon. I wonder what they are doing here.”

Me = “Is it strange for fox demon to take a boat, sensei?”

Serin = “Yes, they are powerful fire user. Naturally they will avoid any big water body. I wonder if the kid wants to study at Avalon also. It is strange though, I never heard a fox demon travelling across ocean to study. They really hate water.”

Me = “Should I ask them later?”

Serin = “Probably not, they have their own circumstances for sure. Best we don’t poke our nose to other’s business.”

Me = “Yes, sensei.”

I quickly become friends with himiko though. In my previous live, I always like animals and she is very cute that make me want to pet her. I don’t do that though, I am afraid she will think me as a pervert.

It seems that they are travelling to Avalon to study too. Himiko is almost one year older than me. She will be 6 years old in 2 months. She is also quite talented. She already has a wis of 9 right now. A rare thing for sure. I kept quiet about my abnormal stat though.

Himiko is a very cheerful young girl. It seems she doesn’t have a lot of friends and she is very happy to go to new places. Yumiko in the other hand seems sad at the prospect leaving her hometown for some time. She is himiko’s guide and protector. It seems himiko is a princess from a demon fox kingdom.

During the travel I pick up two skills, sailing and star navigation from observing the sailors and the captains but I don’t think I will have much use of them since I don’t like sailing.

We are having the New Year on the boat.

It is my first New Year without my family.

I feel quite sad for that.

The New Year dish, however, is very exceptional.

We are eating fresh seafood, fishes, crabs, prawns, shellfishes, squids.

Very delicious.

It seems the ship’s cook is very good.

Plus the seafood is fresh from the ocean.

Oh I got a gift from Serin.

She gives an Enchanted Stick with beautiful blue gem inside it.

Serin = “This is what I bought in Venice. It has property to increase the effectiveness of your water magic. Please take care of it.”

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

I don’t have anything for her.

I make a mental note to prepare a gift for her the next time we spend New Year together.

I also got a map of Avalon from my father and Guidance for Avalon Culture and Etiquette book from my Mom. Both of them give them ask Serin to give them to me at New Year.

Such good parent.

I wonder if I have done a good job with my children back at earth.

Probably not. I am not big in gifts.

We arrive at Avalon after travelling about one month by boat.

Avalon is incredible; it is by far the biggest city that I have visited.

I don’t know what city can compare it to in modern earth.

Avalon capital is famous for the largest harbor in the world and if you see it by yourself it is bigger than some big harbor in modern earth.

Compare to it, Venice(this world’s venice) is like comparing a big city with a rural village.

The Palace is located in the north district of the city is also awesome.

The size of the palace itself might be bigger than Venice.

Why do I always compare it to Venice?

Well, I have never see a town beside Venice since I spent my entire life in my birth village, which is you know, a rural village. The biggest building in my village is our two-story house.

The palace walls looks shining from far away.

It just looks like a fairy tale castle with all the splendid and glory.

I don’t know what make it that way, magic or some special material perhaps or both.

I don’t think any building in modern age is as impressive as the palace.

The central district is filled with big shops and embassies.

The embassies here are not as impressive and special as earth embassy.

They have neither special immunity nor extra territorial right but the diplomat is also considered immune to punishment from the local Kingdom (Avalon).

Usually an unwanted diplomat is issued a letter similar to earth’s persona non grata.

The embassies are also usually small, just like a normal townhouse. Probably around 4 meter width?

The different is that they have a foreign kingdom insignia in their door.

The center district is also filled with different species.

When you are at the city center, you will feel that you are in a wonderland.

You can see elves (of course), human, fairy, ogres, dwarves, fox demons, angels, horned demons (red skin, similar to human but they have two horns), imps, tengu, wolfman, Eagleman, tigerman, even orcs!

I never think I will see an orc in an elven territory but these group of orc have an aura of educated orcs (given they wear long robe and fancy hat). They might be merchant or diplomat.

The shops are also impressive, the have specialize shops.

The meathouse, the veggie house, the winehouse, the beerhouse, the swordspecialist, the spearspecialist, the heavy armor specialist, the leather armor specialist, the bowyer, the alchemist, the enchanter, etc.

There are no guildhouse in the city center, I am informed that they belong in the east district.

The School is impressive in its own way.

The school takes the ENTIRE south district which is saying a lot since not even the palace take the entire northern district.

In fact, the entrance of the school is located in the border of the central and south district.

The school gates have a lot of doors and guards and ticket seller.

Ticket seller? Yes, non-teacher and non-student need to buy tickets to enter unless we have appointment with people inside.

I am told that the school is one of the Avalon attractions.

Familiar people can buy tickets on spot but suspicious people will be rejected.

Serin and Yumiko give a letter to the guard in the special line for people with appointments and we can enter the school district.

It is incredibly stunning.

In the middle of the district there is a big fountain with spirits (I assume they are spirit) playing in the fountain.

By fountain I mean there are normal spiraling and changing water fountain, blazing fire fountain, moving earth fountain and another one that appear like a small tornado. On around it, there are light and darkness that is changing and alternating so the fountain will momentarily disappear from sight.

I can’t really describe the beauty by words but it is beautiful.

I wonder how they make such an amazing show.

There are also buildings with big shining element symbol in the wall, one for each element.

I am told that these buildings are for college students.

There are also building with sword symbol, bow symbol and fist symbol.

These are for fighters.

No spear? Well spear and lances are considered a soldier’s weapon and the school for that is in the north district.

The other unmarked buildings are for other purposes like dormitories, shops, and basic and intermediate classes (well actually they have marker but not as big and showy as the college buildings).

We walk into one of the most impressive building, it also has a symbol but the symbol is Avalon Royal School Symbol which is shining and spinning. It has image of Blue dragon and Fiery Phoenix circling each other.

We were stop by two mean looking guards.

Serin and Yumiko have to show them the letter so we can enter the building.

The building is for college professors and headmistress only.

Me, Serin, Yumiko and Himiko are going together to the headmistress office.

Oh yes, I forget to tell you that Zephira is the headmistress.

Out of courtesy, we allow Yumiko and Himiko to meet Zephira first. The travel by sea took quite a bit of their stamina meanwhile me and Serin are still fresh.

After waiting for one hour finally Yumiko and Himiko finish and after saying goodbye and telling me their dormitory number (female dormitory, room 735) and promising to see each other again, they depart to their room.

Finally we are going to meet Zephira.

Zephira = “Oh if it isn’t my favorite student and my future favorite student.”

Serin = “Hi Zephira, thank you for accepting Bryson to your school.”

Zephira = “Skip the formality, now tell me your development.”

We spent a few hours telling her my development and demonstrating my magic capability. She makes notes vigorously. I don’t know what she is noting and I don’t want to know.

Zephira = “Hmm, very interesting. Welcome to my school, if you have any question please feel free to let me know.”

I brace myself and force myself to speak.

Me = “Actually I have a request headmistress.”

Zephira = “You can call me Zephira dear, what can I do for you?”

Me = “May I skip basic lessons? I think I know enough on math, meditation, geography, history, etc. I want to focus more on practical skill like martial arts, crafting and magic.”

Smiling, Zephira = “Unfortunately, every student need to master the basics. I can’t have my students unable to count.”

Me = “No, Zephira, I mean I already know enough of them.”

Serin = “Yes Zephira, he is even better than me.”

Zephira look surprise with our statement  = “Then let me compile a combination tests for basic knowledge. I will test you in three days. If you pass then you may skip the basic lessons. What do you think?”

Zephira has a big grin in her face. I believe she will give me the most difficult test but I just sigh and nodded.

Zephira = “Great. This is your room key. Each basic dormitory room has 3 people capacity. I will see you again in three days. Meanwhile if you have any questions you can ask me or your dorm manager.”

I receive my dorm key (Male dormitory, room 311). I wonder who will be my roommates.

Me = “Thank you Zephira then please excuse us.”

Serin = “Excuse us, Zephira.”

With that we exit the headmistress room.

Me = “Well that went well.”

Serin = “Yes. Now I have finished my tutoring job. Please remember not to trust anybody easily.”

Serin looks sad and I can see moist in her eyes. I am feeling down too, after 3 years I already got used to her presence. She is like a second mother to me.

Me = “Thank you very much sensei, you are always my sensei. Please visit me time to time.”

Crying she nods and hugs me. I hug her back while holding back my tears.

After a while, she took me to the dorm entrance and gives me more advices before wishing me luck.

Me = “Thank you sensei. Please take care and don’t forget to visit me.”

Serin = “I will. If you have anything, just send me a message by the elven wizard guild.”

Me = “I will sensei.”

With that I enter my new life in the school.
